Job Description

As part of an international animated feature film, Mikros Animation is looking for several Set Surfacing Artists to join its multi-skilled team!

Under the supervision of the Lead and the Set Surfacing Supervisor, the Set Surfacing Artist manages all operations including the look, UV’s, textures and shading of the film’s sets.

His Missions Are

He draws on both strong technical skills and an aesthetic sense to produce high-quality textures, true to the style of the film.

  • Bring artistic and technical expertise to design textures and create shading networks
  • Understand the artistic issues inherent in the movie’s style
  • Ensure the proper consideration and execution of the retakes requested by the supervisor / lead and their follow up
  • Respect the manufacturing process and production deadlines
  • Organize work and prepare presentation elements for validations / reviews in shotgrid

Qualifications

Skills required …

  • Proficient in Maya and UV unfolding tools
  • Mastery of Substance Painter / Designer
  • Good knowledge of 3D sculptures
  • Knowledge of Arnold, shading systems and rendering layers
  • Knowledge of the procedural shading / texturing system
  • Rigor, autonomy and the ability to work in a coherent and orderly manner
  • Be proactive and know how to adapt
  • Knowing how to communicate with the Supervisor / Lead and Production Coordinator on the monitoring of their assets (difficulties encountered, request for advice)
  • Previous experiences as a Set Surfacing Artist on projects of animated feature films, animated TV series and / or VFX feature films
  • Good creative skills and understanding of techniques required for interpretation of designs and precise matching of materials
  • Excellent understanding of lighting, colors, contrasts, shades, shadows

  • Be comfortable with the Linux environment
  • Knowledge of Shotgrid
  • Knowledge of Mari or other texture creation software
  • Knowledge of Katana
  • Python scripting concepts
  • Knowledge of Nuke and the AOV system
  • Be comfortable in an English-speaking work environment
