Production Designer

Candle and Bell are producting two short films and we are currently looking a Production Designer for each films

The films will premier on Sky Arts and will later be screened at film festivals.

The rate of pay is NMW as these are low budget short films.

They would suit a recent graduate with a strong portfolio of work, or a junior in the art department looking for a broadcast credit as production designer.

Assistant Editor 

We are hiring an Assistant Editor to join our hard working, and incredibly talented production team. This is a full-time contract position through November 2022.

Responsibilities 

  • Prepare projects for editors and producers by pulling, transcoding, syncing, and logging existing or original footage, and assembling edits.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years assistant editing experience

The marketing brand team at Quad is seeking a Video Producer to create short-form videos including episodic executive thought leadership series, social-first programming from around the universe of Quad, and other video narratives. We are looking for a team player able to collaborate with others in different roles and help drive video journalism on the brand team at Quad.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of this team, reporting directly to the marketing creative director in a highly collaborative and diverse creative environment of designers, producers, writers, and marketers. As the primary video producer on this platform-agnostic team, this person will be responsible for taking the lead on new Quad video stories for the brand team.


Responsibilities

  • Research, pitch, produce, shoot and edit video for various formats, taking ownership over the process from start-to-finish, demonstrating top-shelf storytelling skills, including editorial accuracy and nuance.
  • Conduct interviews, write scripts, set up studio-based and remote filming, live streams, as well as record VO and edit packages.
  • Collaborate with marketing, brand, and content team leadership to identify key stories and plan video coverage.
  • Occasionally hire and manage freelance production support vendors such as PrEDitors, audio techs, hair and makeup artists, etc.
  • Conceptualize unique video pieces best suited to align with Quad’s brand narrative.
  • Ability to articulate, present and discuss video pitches, with a willingness to receive feedback and work collaboratively, including with executive and C-Suite leadership
  • Coordinate and conduct on-camera or audio interviews, including doing background research to prepare questions


Qualifications

  • Must have a track record of strong reporting that helps shape video narratives.
  • 5-7 years of relevant video journalism and/or production experience.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of Adobe Premiere and a strong working knowledge of Photoshop, After Effects, as well as collaborative tools like Microsoft Teams/Office 365.
  • Must possess excellent editorial judgment, story development, and scripting abilities.
  • Skills in showrunning studio shoots and shows, from booking, scheduling, set dressing, and directing shots
  • Ability to set up a studio shoot, camera, audio, lighting, seamless, etc.
  • Willingness to travel for on-location shoots


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong field production/camera skills are expected although this is not a field-based role.
  • Knowledge of how to use social media to find sources and seek out and distribute video
  • A creative eye and ability to guide a team to create a fresh and distinctive voice for Quad brand video
  • Excellent news judgement and curiosity about current events
  • An interest in marketing and content related to marketing

We are looking for a contract position for a two-month period, with the potential for an extension.

The Assistant Editor will work with various members of our post-production team, but heavily assist with the QC/TE team to prep content for air as well as additional projects for on-air promos and social.

An ideal candidate is someone with strong attention to detail and organizational skills. This role is focused more on the technical side of post-production, and less creative editing.

We are a small, but growing team and are always on the lookout for great additions to our team. Although we are looking for a short-term contractor for now, there is an opportunity for this to turn into a temp to hire role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have intermediate experience with Adobe Premiere
  • Light After Effects experience a plus!

UCLA Law COVID Behind Bars Data Project Seeks Communications Manager

In the face of the danger posed by COVID to people incarcerated in prisons and jails, the UCLA Prison Law and Policy Program launched the UCLA COVID Behind Bars Data Project in March 2020. Currently a team of six staff and numerous volunteers, the Project tracks the spread and impact of COVID in prisons and jails and advocates for greater transparency and accountability around the pandemic response of the carceral system. Stemming from this work, our next major focus is creating a national resource for the public’s understanding of deaths in prisons. Our centralized, nationwide project documents deaths in prison, many of which are not reflected in any publicly available data set.

The Project seeks a Communications Manager to research, write, and edit communications projects in collaboration with our interdisciplinary team of data scientists and policy researchers. These projects will include blog posts, white papers, social media posts, and more. The Communications Manager will also contribute to the Project’s larger media strategy by drafting press releases, conducting press outreach, and maintaining our website.

The ideal candidate will be creative, curious, empathic, and proactive about highlighting the Project’s innovative work.

We are a small team and work collaboratively, though remotely. The work we produce is intended for both technical and broader public audiences. Examples include the following:

  • Data to power the CDC’s Correctional Facility COVID Data Tracker
  • Published research in public health journals (e.g., JAMA, AJPM, MMWR)
  • Blog posts and white papers on data trends and policies related to the pandemic behind bars
  • Social media posts drawing attention to outbreaks and other urgent issues
  • Carceral mortality dataset and associated research

    Responsibilities include the following:

  • Research and write content related to the pandemic and incarceration, deaths in prison, and carceral data transparency
  • Collaborate with data scientists on analyzing and communicating findings from data collection and statistical analyses to various audiences (e.g., the public, journalists, legislators, litigators, advocates)
  • Provide feedback and edit team members’ written products
  • Plan for and draft monthly newsletter
  • Work with Project Director to develop and implement media strategy for all publications and national carceral mortality project
  • Manage COVID Behind Bars Twitter and Instagram accounts
  • Recommend areas to be explored, methods of analysis to be employed, and possible sources of data

    Required qualifications include the following:

  • Experience, ideally at least three years, in some combination of journalism, communications, the criminal legal system, health policy, public policy, or related fields
  • Superb analytical and writing skills, including ability to translate research for broad and diverse audiences
  • Familiarity or interest in working with public health and criminal justice data
  • Outstanding initiative, judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and solve problems creatively
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and capacity to understand, translate, and disseminate complex ideas to varied audiences
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills, including ability to identify and correct errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Proficiency in simple graphic design software, or willingness to develop the same

    Preferred qualifications include the following:

  • Knowledge of print, broadcast, digital, and online news media and communication strategies.
  • Experience with crafting posts and messaging for various social media platforms, including creation of graphics and identification of key hashtags
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Lived experience with and/or knowledge of the criminal legal system

    This position will begin immediately and is funded through January 2023, with a possible extension depending on need and funding. This can be a full- or part-time position. The work will be remote; applicants need not reside in California. The Communications Manager will be supervised by the Project Director. The salary will be $70,000 – $80,000 per annum with limited benefits including health insurance.
