The Production Designer supports the growth of the dynamic brands of MAV Beauty Brands. This individual is detail oriented, a self-starter and passionate about executing a beautiful design aesthetic on all touchpoints including packaging and promotional displays. Reporting to a Senior Art Director and working with our talented Marketing and Operations Team, we are looking for someone who is agile, has a healthy mix of creative and technical knowledge, and thrives in an environment of change to help us take bold and strategic moves in the rapidly evolving beauty industry. 

 

Job Overview: 

  • Create flawless and accurate packaging graphics to meet HC/FDA regulatory compliance in addition to various brand guidelines. 
  • Coordinate artwork, technical and data needs. 
  • Create accurate 2D, 3D, and digital mechanics. 
  • Proof and review pre-press files to ensure the consistency and eliminate any issues during production. 
  • Adhere to commercialization processes ensuring projects meet all requirements and timing. 
  • Set up and maintain organized file database system. 

 

Management Responsibilities: 

  • Manages creative requests and workflow of creative projects 
  • Artwork approval process on timeline for creative projects including primary and secondary packaging, copy and retail related merchandising projects 
  • Maintains and manages assets 

 

Key Job Responsibilities:  

  • A thorough understanding of the language of design, acute sensitivity to typography, and follow-through on all design standards 
  • Ability to design for print and digital production. 
  • While working within specifications set forward by Graphic Designers, create flawless, high-quality digital files with any necessary markups to ensure vendors have accurate production direction on all jobs. 
  • Interact with Brand and Product development to ensure smooth execution of projects. Attend any team meetings and other relevant meetings that concern packaging production. 
  • Must be able to make judgment callouts on any typography layout and make the necessary adjustments in a timely manner. 
  • Must follow all departmental protocols, server protocols, routing protocols, and archiving procedures. 

 

Project Coordination:

  • Must follow through diligently with details of all projects from understanding design-turnover to final production turnover-making rounds of corrections, making changes as necessary. 
  • Collect accurate technical data, content, and print requirements to develop and print packaging artwork. 
  • Status reporting on projects. Track & communicate project development progress and changes with Brand, Regulatory, and Creative. 
  • Create and/or coordinate materials for line review mock-ups. 

 

Labelling Development:

  • Create packaging graphic layouts and mechanical files for packaging & line extensions for different components (e.g., labels, tubes, boxes, trays) using Adobe Creative Suite. 
  • Validate art execution against content application and all packaging specifications provided. 
  • Secure all creative files to central server; maintain organization. 
  • Load packaging data and artwork PDFs onto digital asset database system (Share file). 
  • Route artwork electronically to cross functional teams in packaging system for approvals and follow progress to meet or exceed deadlines. 
  • Working with Operations team on reviewing the componentry samples. 
  • Ensure that printer’s proofs are thoroughly checked to eliminate any mistakes and issues during production. 
  • Working closely with suppliers on ink drawdowns, to overview the consistency of colours and finishes. 
  • Attend press approvals to ensure the quality and consistency of printed materials. 

 

Qualifications & Essential Skills:

  • 5+ years of hands-on studio production experience in a corporate environment, design firm, or agency preferably experienced in the cosmetics/personal care category. 
  • Completion of post-secondary university or college degree in Graphic Design. 
  • Experience in CPG; interest in beauty preferred. 
  • Solid pre-press and print knowledge in all types of consumer packaging and marketing materials. 
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to prioritize own time to meet critical deadlines – must be able to multi-task 
  • Ability to work well independently or within a team 
  • Flexibility to work with short turnaround times in a fast-paced environment 
  • Pays extremely close attention to detail to ensure projects are delivered to specification. 
  • Conveys energy, enthusiasm, and superior work ethic 
  • Effective interpersonal skills are required as this role has interactions with internal and external senior stakeholders. 

 

Software Knowledge Base:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs 
  • Experience with project workflow software systems (Wrike) or similar is a plus.
