PURPOSE OF POSITION:
CBS News Chicago is in search of its next innovative visual storyteller. Ideal candidate will have an expert understanding of NPPA & cinematic style principles, a keen eye and ear for detail, with a demonstrated body of work experience. To cover news events and stories as a per diem Photographer Technician for CBS Chicago newscasts CBS News Streaming, and local programming. Will support multi-platform social media strategies and cbschicago.com. Field duties include but not limited to professional operation of broadcast cameras, drones, digital microwave and satellite ENG vehicles, non-linear editing systems, and IP based broadcast applications.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Candidates should demonstrate knowledge and experience with all aspects of ENG news coverage, including Sony HD cameras, Edius non-linear editing, ENG lighting, microwave and satellite transmissions, drones & GoPro style cameras.
- Edit news stories under urgent deadline, while maintaining editorial integrity.
- Safely operating company vehicles, including microwave equipped vans and trucks, on potentially long drives in all weather conditions.
- Bring creativity and imagination to the job of broadcast storytelling.
- Ensure that all daily show production deadlines are met.
- Take extreme care to ensure that news equipment is protected from theft and damage.
- Consistently contribute to editorial process in team environment with story ideas and attention to production strategy.
- Other duties, as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- The unpredictable nature of news assignments often requires extending scheduled shifts on short notice.
- Physical ability to carry and manipulate at least 75lbs of gear, set up and breakdown broadcast production equipment, usually alone, and on tight deadlines.
- Capable of safely driving company vehicles in all conditions and on potentially hours-long drives to and from assignments.
- Flexibility regarding assigned work schedule, including the potential of regular shifts that involve weekends and/or late nights and/or overnights.
- Reliably communicate details associated with editorial content of stories and logistical information associated with production deadlines. The ability to gather important information at various news locations.
- Must join the IBEW 1220 union if not a current member.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:
- Five years’ experience as a photographer and editor, preferably in a top 25 market.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a similar field preferred or related experience.
- Familiarity with the Chicago area, desirable.
- Strong non-linear editing background, including Edius.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license.
- Jib & Technical Operations Center experience is a plus.
- Drone ENG experience with FAA Part 107 certification is a plus.
- Strong computer and troubleshooting skills.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Hourly Pay Range: $64.77 – $68.47 per hour
The hiring range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington State, and most other geographies. WBZ-TV and WSBK-TV, the CBS News and Stations owned and operated television station in Boston, is seeking an expert and dedicated Photojournalist/Editor to join our amazing team.
Candidates should have a strong dedication to creative and visual storytelling with excellent videography and editing skills. They should also possess the ability to produce daily content from the field independently or with partners, a desire to learn and evolve as new technologies are deployed and assist our MSJs during live shots and on assignments, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Photojournalists applying for this position must have non-linear editing experience, knowledge of file-based video transfer, and experience as a News Photographer/Editor. Must have the knowledge and ability to operate live bonded cellular technology (Dejero and LiveU)
- ENG and SNG live truck experience is a plus.
- Calls for excellent communication and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have minimum of 5 years’ experience in a medium to large television market
REQUIREMENTS:
- Candidates will be responsible for maintaining assigned equipment, including news vehicles, cameras, lights, laptop editors, and associated gear, initiating repairs when necessary.
- Must physically be able to carry, shoulder, and shoot with a broadcast ENG camera (25-35lbs),as well as carry support equipment (tripod, lights, microphones, etc.)
- Must be able to work assigned schedules which may include early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have a valid Massachusetts drivers license and a clean driving record
PREFERRED QUALITIES:
- Proven news judgment and writing skills
- In-house technical experience is a big plus (i.e., ENG Receive, Floor Directing)
- Strong breaking news skills

Job Description
The Executive Producer, Photography is a critical role and advocate from the creative idea to execution. You are a pro-active, future-thinking leader; someone who will build new relationships with our sister agencies and deepen existing connections, develop new business opportunities and initiatives, and strengthen our teams. You are an advocate for good ideas, great execution and a proponent of long-term collaboration. Having excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to juggle tasks easily and calmly. Your experience in the production process extends beyond the general operations of the job and carries into the execution of the work all while ensuring agency and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Works with the HOS in development and growth for new and existing clients, including capabilities presentations, onboarding, and relationship building.
- Act as primary point of contact with clients, agency partners, and internal teams to plan and deliver photography projects
- Works directly with Internal and Client teams, including but not limited to; Creative, Photographers, Crew, and Account Management on the planning and execution of productions
- Negotiates and books production talent as needed
- Works with team members to coordinate all production needs and logistics
- Executes production workflows based on client needs, regardless of media channel, ensuring execution of creative to the brief
- Reviews, bids and manages scope of work throughout the life cycle of a job
- Ensures productions are delivered within budget and on-time
- Responsible for the financial health and reconciliation of jobs
- Create a culture of creativity, innovation, collaboration.
- Flexible and full of ideas on how to make the impossible possible, highly entrepreneurial mindset
- Drive creative and operational excellence across the team, developing the next generation of content production leadership.
- Partner with inventory to ensure product is received as needed for production.
- Staying up to date on industry trends, talent, and equipment
Locations & Commitments:
- Full-time role, currently hybrid but individual should expect to mostly be in office three days a week. Comradery and in person meetings with agencies is important
- Overtime may be required to deliver on client projects and deadlines
- Travel may be required based on production needs
Qualifications
- 10+ years in Photo Producer Role, experience in studio and on location
- Strong knowledge of creative and production processes
- Bachelors’ degree is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including strong presentation skills
- Strong Negotiation and Budget Management Skills
- Financial Acumen
- Ability to think quickly and juggle multiple projects
- Strong organization skills and ability to manage a great deal of detailed information
- Focused on Team Development and Leadership presence
- Customer-service oriented, attuned to client needs while building and strengthening these relationships

Compensation Range: $121,000.00 – $204,500.00 annually. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. For this role, the Company will offer medical coverage, dental, vision, disability, 401k, and paid time off.
