The Opportunity
We seek an experienced and detailed Director of Product to drive all new development and production efforts. With extensive experience in textiles and soft goods product management and a passion for sustainability, this role is the glue between all departments and acts as the foundation of the team. Working cross-functionally with finance, sales, operations, and marketing to successfully launch sustainable products and textiles on time and within budget. The Director of Product will be highly detail-oriented and can react and problem-solve efficiently and for the best interest of the brand, our people and the planet.
What You’ll Do
- Works closely with the VP of Product to drive short and long-term product development strategy for both branded finished goods and B2B textiles.
- Drive product development from concept through production, owning the development calendar, PLM data, WIP, testing, and cross-functional coordination.
- Manages relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met, and the brand’s sustainable and ethical standards are upheld.
- Owns and manages product master data, SKU creation, cost sheets, BOM’s, Tech Packs, and UPC creation.
- Owns project timelines, keeping all stakeholders informed and on track to hit GTM launch dates
- Manages raw material tracker, vendor database, and development logs
- Manages high-profile custom development programs working directly with brands and mills to achieve on-time, on-spec and on-budget execution
- Supports new vendor onboarding, owning factory profile data, sustainability compliance, social and environmental compliance contracts, and 3rd party audits.
- Drives product improvement plans, working with suppliers to implement corrective action plans and new development projects to improve product quality constantly. Interfaces with CX and ops to gather feedback driving strategy and prioritization of improvement plans.
- Owns product testing process for performance and quality analysis, interpreting the results and providing recommendations for next steps and communication strategy.
- Own and manage product library source of truth for all internal and external product knowledge.
- Manages data related to the measurement of our sustainability impact, including carbon footprint lifecycle assessment, water savings, etc.
- Liaises with key partners in our sustainable mission, including sustainability agencies, environmental NGOs, and brand partners.
What you will need:
- 7-10 years of experience in a similar role with textile-related knowledge
- 4-year college or university degree in Textile Engineering or comparable degree/education/ experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years work experience in the fabric production industry (knowledge of manufacturing process, fabrics, mechanical and chemical treatments)
- Background knowledge of performance fabrics, technical treatments, yarn and textile engineering, printing, and novel dyeing processes.
- WFX experience is a plus
- Very strong problem-solving skills and highly proficient in Excel and data analysis
- Strong presentation skills and converting data into actionable recommendations
- Knowledge of sustainable product practices or business models is preferred
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Must be comfortable managing and providing solutions and recommendations on key business decisions to leadership and stakeholders
- Ability to coach and train all levels of employees on subject expert knowledge
- Start-up experience is a plus
- Fluent in English (verbal and written)
- Fluent in Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), a plus
