Job Description

I. Job Summary |Major goals and objectives.

The Senior News Editor will be responsible for coordinating closely with the Senior Editor to lead digital coverage for the TV vertical. This includes leading digital coverage of key events and managing digital coverage, from routine daily news to breaking news situations that arise within the vertical; helping to develop strategy and content opportunities around trends, celebrity stories, and topical issues. The ideal candidate is a dynamic editor who’s extremely skilled at mining social media and other sources (both online and/or through contacts) for new and exclusive stories. A compelling storyteller, quick—and impeccable—line editor, writer (whenever needed),and headline writer.   Must have solid news judgment and the ability to prioritize and identify potentially high-traffic stories. This candidate would also need to be able to ideate key second beat and breakout posts, to fully leverage breaking and trending news stories. The Senior News Editor will be expected to work occasional nights and weekends to handle reporting assignments and cover breaking news and events with the rest of the team. A fluent understanding of the digital landscape, including content streams, SEO and analytics is mandatory, and this editor needs to be extremely organized, efficient, and able to communicate quickly, clearly—and respectfully—to the team.

40% – Finding, overseeing, assigning and editing a large volume of stories daily. Collaborating with the legal team on vetting stories.

30% – Strategizing coverage, making assignments and overseeing execution, drawing on the editorial calendar as well as data and analytics.

10% – Overseeing the digital footprint on large-scale event coverage.

10% – Strategizing and preparing for news moments ahead of time.

 

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements |All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications, related field or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

Minimum 7 years experience working in a high volume, digital news operation, with proven leadership experience.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to work independently.

• Strong writing and editing skills, impeccable journalistic standards, and attention to detail.

• Ability to respond quickly to breaking news and understand how to prioritize urgent vs. non urgent content.

• An understanding of SEO and analytics.

• A proven ability to drive traffic!

• Strong management skills.

• Passion for and knowledge of TV -related issues, and a fluency in the media landscape.

Salary: New York: $90,000.00 – $90,000.00

Job Description

I. Job Summary |Major goals and objectives.

The Staff Editor will be responsible for working closely with the Senior Editor and Senior News Editor to coordinate cross-platform content. This will include managing both routine daily news and breaking news situations. The ideal candidate is a dynamic editor who is passionate about PEOPLE and knows how to find unique and compelling stories. The Staff Editor will be expected to work occasional nights and weekends to handle reporting assignments and cover breaking news and events with the rest of the team. We’re looking for an impeccable writer and line editor with sound news judgment and an ability to prioritize stories as they come in from all angles. The Staff Editor needs to be able to ideate and identify key second-beat and breakout posts on breaking and trending news stories, assigning these to members of the team and inspiring collaboration and camaraderie. It’s key to have a fluent understanding of the digital landscape, including content streams, SEO, Discover and analytics and to be meticulously organized.

 

The hours for this role are 11 AM – 7 PM PT.

About the Role:

Dow Jones is seeking a creative and entrepreneurial Audio Producer who is well versed in business news, markets, and finance to produce a weekly financial news podcast from Barron’s and support audio needs across the department.

The ideal candidate has experience producing fast-paced news content, interviews, and video podcasts as well as experience working with on-air talent, a strong understanding and interest in financial news, markets, and business and an ability to turn around episodes quickly. The candidate will work with the show host to select topics, structure episodes with multiple interviews on a weekly basis, and build episodes with multiple tracks and scoring. Candidates will also have experience writing compelling scripts, and producing and editing full video podcasts and clips.

This person will also provide data and insights on audio performance and suggestions for growing audience and engagement across shows.

You Will:

+ Produce full episodes from start to finish, including researching, pitching ideas to the host, booking guests, producing host reads and narration, fact checking, cutting tape, finding archival news clips, assembling mixes, and scoring and finishing episodes.

+ Schedule recordings with podcast host

+ Record and direct host recordings both remotely and in studio

+ Coach reporters and editors without audio experience on presenting for audio

Hiring Salary Range: $80,000.00 – 88,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. The Associate Producer/Editor supports producers and edits low lift compilations, lifts, and shorts. The role contributes to tentpole initiatives (e.g., PAW Patrol arcs, movie related beats),liaises with contractors, and maintains organized archives of team assets.

Key Responsibilities:

•    Edit low lift compilations, lifts, and shorts to Nick Jr. standards; deliver on schedule.

•    Assist other producers on high lift projects.
•    Support tentpole projects (PAW Patrol arcs; film adjacent campaigns); coordinate with contractors as needed.
•    Archive and manage files; uphold internal media management and documentation practices.

•    Brainstorm and pitch ideas.

Basic Qualifications:

•    1–2+ years in digital video post production or relevant internship experience; Adobe Premiere proficiency.
•    Strong organization, communication, and file management skills; ability to learn QC/publishing standards quickly.

Additional Qualifications:

•    Exposure to Nick Jr. franchises and channel workflows; familiarity with VO setup, basic graphics, and audio sweetening.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $65,000.00 – 75,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
