SYNOPSIS:
Middle school is the new high school. The life of a preteen girl is tough. You’re 12 going on 13, while everyone else in the class seems like they’re turning 20. Everyone else is trendy, sophisticated, and well…popular. This is a story of two girls hilarious struggles to make it through these formative years, where every day is awkward and the most important day of their lives (!!). While the title, Popularity Papers, may suggest a show about how to become popular, at the heart of it this series is about discovering your authentic self and not trying to be someone else just to fit in. It captures the real challenges of being a tween girl and disarms them with humor, love, and friendship. It’s a show that proves failure is an option, humiliation is good for a laugh and middle school is survivable.
Lydia and Julie are best friends on the hunt for answers to history’s question: How does someone become popular? Through pragmatic (and not-so-pragmatic) testing and social experimentation, they’ll figure out what it really means to be popular and finally get answers to questions like, do you really need to ditch your real friends to become popular? Should you quit the things you’ll love just because they’re considered “uncool”

Morgan has their finger on the pulse of the school more than any other kid, which can be a heavy burden on a kid who’s also trying to find their place in the world. Morgan is non-binary, so they often feel different, outside of the norm. It’s part of what makes them an astute observer of the goings on at Mapleview. Roles: Melody ( RECURRING PRINCIPAL )
Character Description
Female, 14. Seeking talent who identify as LGBTQIA+. Melody is a quintessential emo/goth girl. A lone wolf with headphones, just coming to understand her queerness. Unlike her younger sister Lydia, Melody doesn’t need validation or popularity. She’d rather be sarcastic from the sidelines. She finds Lydia’s pursuits and attention-seeking annoying and loves taking her down a peg. But underneath her dry humour, ironic graphic tees and chipped black nail polish is a caring soul who looks out for Lydia and Julie, even though she’d never admit it.

Character descriptions:
Male. 40s. Seeking talent who identify as LGBTQIA+. Dad is cool, charismatic, handsome and confident. Like Han Solo if he was a gay parent. He’s head over heels in love with his husband Alex and his daughter Julie, though sometimes, as the only extrovert in the family, he can be the odd man out. He does his best to relate to Julie’s struggles with shyness and social anxiety, even if they are strange concepts to him, and is a wonderful father.

Roles: ALEX CHANG AKA BABA (RECURRING PRINCIPAL)
Character descriptions:
Male. 40s. Seeking talent who identify as LGBTQIA+. Before Julie, Alex was a carefree young dentist on the rise and a diehard Gaga fan. Then he held tiny precious Julie in his arms…and realized EVERYTHING COULD KILL HER. Where he was once over-analytical and meticulous…he’s since crossed over into being neurotic, hypochondriacal and overprotective. You’d think that’d be a pain in the butt for Julie to deal with – but she actually sees a lot of herself in her Baba, being so risk-averse herself. Alex knows he’s the “nerd” of the couple, his passion for DND does not out-glam his partner James’s charismatic drag queen persona. But he’s relieved because that means someone in the family can answer Julie’s questions about popularity. He’s overwhelmingly happy with his life and his little family, so long as they floss twice a day.
Production Description:
Follows 2 friends who are on a mission to crack the popularity code, and do social experiments with their peers.
