Summary

Our Creative Director is a roll-up-the-sleeves, enterprising business leader responsible for inspiring and leading integrated creative that translates across a 360-degree marketing ecosystem. The Creative Director is masterful in consistently crafting engaging and intuitive experiences and is well-versed in championing creativity.

For our clients and client prospects, the Creative Director will be collaboratively solving business problems across industries and identifying opportunities for competitive cut-through. The Creative Director is responsible for envisioning scalable concepts and then ensuring top-notch creative execution that can be achieved within the realities of budgets and timelines. Best-in-class pitching and presentation skills are a must.

For our internal team, they’ll foster a collaborative, inspiring environment that welcomes all relevant channels to connect with our target audiences holistically. The role involves collaboratively narrowing and refining creative options with a solutions orientation that ultimately supports the production/execution of approved ideas by the integrated team.

Our Creative Director…

  • Is a professional listener who deeply understands our clients’ and partners’ businesses;
  • Collaborates with our cross-discipline experts and Executive Committee to deliver creative for internal Moontide initiatives, agency clients, and prospects;
  • Partners with client managers and project management to align creative solutions with business logic;
  • Is versatile enough to jump from leading a complex website design system to collaborating on brand identity territories to ideating campaign concepts
  • Demonstrates practical knowledge of technology and delivery platforms and can be relied upon for vetting solutions to ensure feasibility;
  • Collaborates with CD of Information Design, to jointly ensure the Moontide brand and all client brands are expressed elegantly in assets;
  • Understands paid media and earned media platforms and how to bring to life optimal creative solutions for the channels and communities;
  • Leads by example in empowering, mentoring, and inspiring direct reports’ and supporting their career progression.
  • Upholds best practices and internal process standards, including creative accountability and proactive support of staff resourcing and financial stewardship
  • Exhibits intentionality when respectfully pushing the envelope in terms of design, delivery, platforms, and integrated solutions to achieve competitive differentiation.
  • Brings a track record for gaining client trust in creative solutions for their businesses, especially at the client organizations’ leadership levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and 10+ years’ creative leadership experience at an ad agency, brand firm, media company, start-up or client-side organization.
  • A portfolio that extends across mediums, target audiences, and a diverse range of clients at various stages of business growth
  • Experience managing a creative team, external creative agencies, and production partners.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and other discipline-specific tools experience.
  • Must be based in the headquarters office in El Segundo, CA with requirements for in-office hours 2 days a week. Travel to client locations and other Moontide remote locations on an as-needed basis (approximately 15-25% of the time)

About the Job

The Art Director is responsible for touching every piece of the creative process and helping develop culture-cracking work across campaign, experiential and digital assignments. From conception to production, you’ll be a steward of storytelling for our brand partners, bringing ideas to life through myriad formats and styles. The ideal candidate understands the fundamentals of design and strives to make beautifully original things, all while collaborating with teammates across functions and departments, working most closely with a Writer partner. We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to making innovative work that stirs shit up, across the advertising industry and culture at large.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a Writer partner to ideate and create work that delivers on client goals, both strategically and creatively.
  • Work hand in hand with Writer to create presentations for approval by Associate Creative Directors and leadership. This includes the ideas as well as the design and layout of decks, pulling mood imagery, and comping bespoke visuals to sell the concepts.
  • Once a concept is approved by our client, work alongside Associate Creative Director team to actually make the work — overseeing and collaborating with the Production Department to keep the integrity of the creative.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000 – $100,000. Salary is determined based on a wide range of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, job duties, and geographic location. The Art Director’s primary objective is to help establish and maintain the creative direction for each of the company’s various brands and labels. Must also be able to execute upon all related branded assets required (printed and digital) for each brand – under the overall direction of the VP of Creative and Marketing.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Head of Design & Brand Marketing, our Art Director will have a passion for fashion, visual storytelling, content creation and people. In this role, you will lead and execute creative projects that bring our designs and brand identity to life visually and editorially, through initiatives that can be commercialized across all of our platforms (online and offline) to propel our brand’s growth.

KEY​ ​RESPONSIBILITIES

Skilled in visual design, passionate about creative processes and visual storytelling, customer-centric and an all-around team player, the Art Director must have the ability to translate creative ideas into actionable, strategic guidelines for their creative team to execute.

  • You will be responsible for the art direction of the Frank And Oak brand including:
  • An omnichannel marketing campaign for all consumer touchpoints: photo and video campaigns, OOH print/digital ads, e-com site (web design, and product photography);
  • Editorial and e-commerce visuals, styling and photo direction;
  • In-store visuals including special store windows and signage, brand materials, seasonal promotions;
  • Branded collateral including on-product, packaging, print.
  • You will play an important role in directing all photo and video shoots that are lead by our in-house Studio team (photographer, creative producer, retoucher, studio coordinator, and a variety of creative freelancers). You will be required to attend and supervise all photo/video shoots (in office & on location)
  • Assisted by the Studio Coordinator, you will also be responsible for leading the styling research and direction to ensure we capture trend-right looks for all commercial needs
  • As a creative leader within the organization, you will influence the direction of the brand’s visual identity and guide teams in how this vision gets executed in styling, store concepts, content marketing and all creative assets in order to strengthen the brand image, increase profitability and elevate the brand into the future
  • You will create comprehensive creative and artistic direction deliverables, leading projects through from concept, design, production, and delivery
  • You will partner with the Marketing team, Merchandising team and Product Designers to conceptualize and plan the execution of campaigns and visual content across all consumer touchpoints including web, social, video, retail, e-commerce, and on-product
  • Inspire and lead an in-house Creative Studio and team of graphic designers
  • Direct all aspects of photoshoot and approves all final shootings while ensuring the establish budget is respected
  • Trend research: Remain up to date with the competitive landscape and emerging trends in all facets of creative and artistic design

QUALIFICATIONS​ ​&​ ​SKILLS

  • 7+ years of experience in an artistic creative role (min. 2 years in the fashion industry)
  • Experience in graphic design
  • Passion for the fashion and retail industry
  • Solid and diverse portfolio with relevant examples
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Experience in a creative team both in-house and in-agency are preferred
