LA SENIOR ART DIRECTOR

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Art Director is responsible for creating high-end looks, ideating concepts, and animating their concepts for TV spots, trailers and digital A/V. Project to project, the Senior Art Director is also responsible for leading teams of Art Directors and Designers across both LA and NYC offices executing campaign design and production work. 

This is a leadership role. The Senior AD will be expected to mentor junior designers as a model of creativity and professionalism.

VP DIGITAL AND DESIGN (New York)

CREATIVE DIRECTOR – DESIGN & DIGITAL (Los Angeles) 

 

Tasks: 

1. Design – Creating industry-leading graphics for Theatrical, TV, Digital AV, and pitch decks. This includes collaborating in brainstorm sessions and contributing creative ideas.

2. Animating – once successful looks have been chosen,  animating those designs with fluency.

3. Supervising – If styles are delegated to junior designers, the Senior AD will be expected to supervise their work.

4. Mentoring – provide feedback, guidance, and advice to junior designers as we expand and strengthen the LA team.

  1. Creative Excellence – Taking initiative on innovative techniques and work practices with the vision of cultivating Zealot as a world-class vendor.
  2. Technical and Craft Prowess – Be a master of our design tools; demonstrating expert proficiency in Adobe After Effects and Maxon Cinema 4D, as well as veteran skill in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Champion quality control and an understanding of the technical workflows and dependencies inherent to our field. Strive to expand skillset, learn new tools and techniques while propagating knowledge within the design team. 
  3. Staff harmony – Ensuring positive relations inside the LA office and also with the New York team. Personal demonstrations of teamwork and cooperative spirit between the 2 offices.
  4. Reliability – Complies with instructions and performs under high-pressure circumstances. Delivering on-time for both offices.
  5. Communication – Maintaining clear lines of communication with producers, VP and Design Director.
  6. Leadership – Being a teacher and mentor for junior designers across both offices.

My client is a Vancouver-based Virtual and Augmented Reality Studio that develops new and unique ways for people to play games and interact with each other. They partner with IP holders, large publishers, and tech brands to create and deliver immersive, high-end game experiences across multiple platforms with a special focus on building new tools for cutting-edge emerging technology. They have well-known titles on PC, PSVR, Oculus, Quest and mobile. They are currently in the early stages of several new and highly innovative projects with prominent industry partners and are searching for the best and the brightest to help them transform the world of VR and AR game development.

The Role:

They are looking for a passionate UX UI Director who enjoys working on an agile and fast paced team that brings high-quality VR projects to life. They are a hybrid Vancouver-based studio so are happy to consider candidates from all over Canada to work remotely. They also offer relocation assistance to candidates who wish to move to BC, Canada. You are comfortable working in a close-knit and collaborative team with a wide range of skill sets and personalities. You enjoy the creative problem-solving process required to bring original concepts and high-profile IPs to life in an immersive experience. You thrive in teams and are open to bringing new ideas to the table to assist in raising the quality bar of the end product.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of designers, engineers, and UX/UI specialists to develop efficient UI systems and develop user-friendly experiences.
  • Work with the Creative Director and Lead Game Designer to define the user experience in a game and prototype spaces and interactions in VR/AR.
  • Test for scale and usability while working with artists to concept and model the User Interface (UI).
  • Lead, manage and mentor a team of UX UI Designers and Developers.
  • Own the pipeline for UX and UI and work closely with the Creative Director.
  • Own any identified opportunities/improvements in current designs and iterate on new solutions.
  • Assist in coordinating usability testing and create action plans for Users Experience (UX) improvements.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of industry experience as a UI/UX Designer, and with a minimum of one game shipped (or worked on in your portfolio).
  • Proven experience managing people.
  • Portfolio to show a variety of UI styles and projects.
  • Experience working with VR/AR.
  • 2D/3D Illustration & Design for Game UI, Web, or Mobile app development.
  • Familiar with using a 3D game engine (Ideally Unreal Engine 4 or Unity 3D).
  • Familiarity with Social VR & 3D creation and prototyping tools & apps such as Microsoft Maquette/Recroom/Gravity Sketch etc.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or similar (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
  • Understanding of Player/User-Centred Design ideology.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams in a dynamic and iterative setting.
  • Excellent ability to communicate your ideas & design decisions.
  • Experience with user-centric design and the ability to create easy-to-understand user flows and diagrams.

The Project: 

A series of commercials portraying Firm’s fight for justice for those injured in car accidents, and on behalf of the families whose loved ones are victims of nursing home abuse and neglect.
Usage: Midwest regional broadcast commercials and paid online placement for up to two years.
Dates: 2/21 – 2/22 with exact dates to be determined. It is possible that talent may be booked for up to 2 days. Must be available both of these days.

Location: Chicago Loop

Rate: $200 for a 5 hour day + $50 for Travel/Parking & $50 for Wardrobe usage (talent will be asked to bring several wardrobe options). Compensation total = $300 is inclusive of usage

Casting Breakdown: 
Non-union African American, Latina, and Caucasian adults between the ages of 25 – 70. Preference for real everyday people/ non-model types. All genders and body types will be considered. Age, body, and racial diversity are very important.
A few sets of people will be cast as realistic adult family units.  
1-2 people will be cast as young (20s – 30s) auto accident victims.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Own all creative development for Virginia Housing. Lead concepting, pitching and the development of strategic creative executions with internal staff, and oversee external agencies, as needed.

  • Drive innovation through creative strategy and execution.

Qualified candidates must possess:

  • 7+ years experience, including experience leading creative teams as an Associate Creative Director, or Creative Director
  • 5+ years experience in graphic design or art direction
  • 5+ years experience as expert level in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint
  • Able to manage sizeable workload for yourself and your team in a fast-paced environment
  • Digital experience and expertise: including digital advertising, email and website

Preferred experience includes:

  • Experience on both sides of creative–graphic design and copywriting.
