POSITION SUMMARY: As a key member of the Northpoint team, the Creative Director will support the Vice President, Marketing & Digital Strategy in areas of content strategy, brand management, graphic design and illustration, animation, vendor management in printing/promotion items, and reporting on creative impact. This is both a strategic and tactical role requiring a deep knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite of tools and how content creation directly impacts lead generation and revenue. This position also requires experience managing multiple brands, life-cycle marketing, and various aspects of search engine optimization (SEO) and how creative impacts digital reach. The chosen candidate will be responsible for using creative content production methods to test and optimize our campaigns across platforms. Knowledge of data and reporting is required to communicate the results to ensure our online marketing efforts have the highest possible return on investment (ROI).

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Develop relevant content topics to reach Northpoint’s target audience
  • Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video, written and audio/podcast)
  • Oversee and produce all creative output
  • Work with the VP, Marketing & Digital Strategy to design, create, and manage promotions and social ad campaigns, while ensuring integration with Northpoint’s overall marketing campaign, plan, and channels

  • Track and collect data to show efficacy of marketing efforts and ROI
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy

  • Monitor effective benchmarks (Best Practices) for measuring the impact of creative output

Qualifications/Requirements For Position

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, graphic design, marketing, or commensurate experience required
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ of experience in design, creative direction, and/or branding

  • Must have experience in printing, promotional item production, and vendor management
  • Knowledge of graphic design, illustration, animation, SEO, PPC, lead generation and digital marketing concepts

Position Summary

The Creative Director oversees the visual brand identity and art direction of Stones Throw and its artist campaigns. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of this iconic label’s visual culture. The position leads the art department, ensuring the highest quality visual and creative aesthetic across the board. Stones Throw is proudly collaborative with its artists and this hire understands each artist’s vision and translates it to brilliant visual creative to be used across an entire marketing campaign, to engage with fans and bring each artist and the Stones Throw brand to new generations and audiences.

The Creative Director is both the curator and steward of Stones Throws’ timeless creative legacy, and at the same time breaks ground in visuals and formats to meet the needs of new generations of artists and fans. The role works and collaborates with a close-knit team, and takes the lead and executes ambitious creative that is eye-catching, timely, and cohesive. The role takes ownership over creative campaigns, art directing the big picture and ensures the details are executed to the highest standard. With a knack for storytelling and a strong background in visual design and creative work, the new hire will be able to hit the ground running, sustain and contribute to the body of iconic visuals that have been synonymous with Stones Throw for over two decades, and at the same time chart the company’s visual future.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all visual creative to ensure Stones Throw’s brand identity is maintained and kept consistent, and continues to grow and evolve.
  • Lead visual creative for the label’s emerging front-line artists as well as established and legacy artists and catalog.
  • Lead the creative aspect of label-branded campaigns e.g. brand collaborations, capsule collections, etc.
  • Work closely with artists, management and label staff to tell the artist’s story and realize their vision through compelling creative, from album art to social content assets, merch creative, advertising assets, and everything in between, from concept to completion.
  • Execute multi-platform creative for artist marketing campaigns, with a digital-forward approach.
  • As business growth allows, build a small creative team of one or two, covering art, design and layout, video, photography, graphic design, and more. Directly manage and develop a junior in-house creative and delegate select responsibilities to them.
  • Meet the unique creative needs of each artist and project, and source and commission select outside freelance creatives including visual artists, graphic designers, photographers, animators, video directors, editors, stylists, et cetera.
  • Think outside the box for creative ideas such as collaborations with brands, innovative activations and groundbreaking approaches to convey artists’ vision and engage and acquire fans.
  • Ensure Stones Throw’s deep catalog is kept active with timely reissues and repackagings that appeal to existing fans and new audiences.

Skills / Experience:

  • 7+ years of working in design, creative or art direction roles, with a breadth of experience across formats and platforms.
  • Proven track record in creating and commissioning visually compelling creative, with a strong, demonstrable proficiency in video content.
  • Deep knowledge of and immersion in the music and creative landscape, understanding of how visual creative and music interact to tell a story.
  • Creative accomplishments and skills relevant and transferable to supporting frontline music releases, music catalog, artists as brand, and label as brand.
  • An extensive network of contacts from visual artists to videographers, strong relationships in the creative industries, and an instinct for hiring the right creative for the right job.

Compensation

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of the SKYCAM equipment.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the SKYCAM system during the event.
  • Monitor the SKYCAM footage in real-time, making adjustments as needed to capture the best shots.

  • Elevate visual storytelling across the newsroom and website, newspaper, wire, social media, newsletters, and everywhere else our editorial brand is reflected.
  • Help train the newsroom on visual best practices, image selection, visual tools, and other skills needed to enhance our visual storytelling and appearance.
  • Liaise and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the Sun-Times and Chicago Public Media, including marketing, circulation, product, digital and revenue teams.
  • As part of the editorial leadership team, help improve CST’s audience relationships, workplace culture, editorial excellence, and impact.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related training.
  • At least five years of newsroom experience, including people-management experience.
  • Strong visual skills, including experience creating a visual identity.
  • Strategic thinker and an excellent planner with solid project management and communication skills.
  • Ability to react quickly in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a union environment.

C2 client, a creative branding and strategy agency that transforms beliefs into authentic behavior through the power of culturally disruptive ideas is seeking a Designer to add to their team. You’ll work on a wide range of clients — from the biggest and most established brands in the world to nimble brands that make our life’s work incredibly rewarding, you’ll oversee and architect the creative product that has given us a reputation for launching and relaunching brands. This role will be primarily focused on concepting and executing brand initiatives ranging from rebranding to social/digital campaigns, employer brand initiatives, and supporting communication campaigns.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, XD a must. Premier, Animate, After Effects a plus).
  • Experience in Google Suite (Google slides, docs, etc.) We are a Google shop 🙂
  • And yes…a working ability in PowerPoint (cause’ some clients want a PPT template), MS Word Suite on occasion and Google Docs. Our primary presentation format to clients is in Google Slides.
  • Experience working in and around video and web is a huge plus.
