Tyler Perry Filmed 19 Episodes of ‘Bruh’ in Four Days (UPDATE)

Tyler Perry finished filming 19 episodes of his TV series ‘BRUH’ in only four days.

While some people are walking through the entertainment industry, Tyler Perry is running a marathon. According to reports, Tyler Perry managed to hoot 82 episodes of TV in 32 days, with the most intense schedule being ‘BRUH.’ ‘Bruh’ filmed 19 total episodes in only four days.

Since July 9, Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta opened its doors to film several shows, including The Oval, Ruthless, Bruh, and Sistas. Tyler Perry filmed new seasons of his series during the coronavirus pandemic COVID-19 during a quarantine bubble model, sequestering cast and crew on the lot for the duration of a shoot.

Overall, there were only 32 shoot days and 51 quarantine days total for the four TV shows, with week-long breaks between select shows.

Tyler Perry’s quarantine bubble includes check-in testing as cast and crew arrive at the studio, with everyone staying in their rooms until test results come back.

Out of 360 people, there were four positive tests during the check-in phase on Sistas, and a cast member of Ruthless, who tested positive during check-in.

There were no positive cases in camp once cast and crews had checked in, and production started.

Tyler Perry finishes filming BET+ series Ruthless amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Deadline, Tyler Perry’s BET+ drama Ruthless wrapped production on Thursday. Tyler Perry will start filming new episodes of his BET+ comedy series Bruh starting this week.

Tyler Perry is working hard at his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta during the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic with breaks between shoots. To accomplish this difficult feat, Perry hires a cast and crew to work in a quarantine bubble, keeping the cast and crew on the lot for the entire duration of the shoot. The production follows a 30-page document, which outlines the filming procedeures including check-in testing, and everyone staying in their rooms until test results comeback.

One cast member of Ruthless reportedly tested positive during the check-in test. The person was self-isolated off the premises and was retested, producing three consecutive negative results. The production schedule was change to handle the actor’s absence. The quarantined actor was allowed back for the last two days of production after their final COVID-19 test, and was able to finish filming their scenes.

Tyler Perry’s quarantine bubble has done extremely well during production of his shows. So far, Perry successfully filmed new seasons of his BET series The Oval and Sisters, followed by Ruthless, at his Atlanta studio.

Tyler Perry successfully films two seasons at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

Update: August 16, 2020: According to Deadline, filming for Season 2 of Perry’s BET series, The Oval, finished days ahead of schedule. Filming for the TV series started on August 4th and the show stayed in production with a one-day scheduled break, completing 22 total episodes.

Over 300 actors and crew members were hired and tested regularly for COVID-19. All of 377 talents tested negative for COVID-19 as Tyler Perry quarantine bubble continued production for the second time in a row.

Season 2 of BET’s Sistas was the first TV show to film at Tyler Perry Studios amid the pandemic. The show also finished ahead of schedule.

Tyler Perry is getting ready to film two TV shows including Ruthless and Bruh.

Actors test positive for Coronavirus on as production resumes on Tyler Perry’s ‘The Oval’.

Update August 3, 2020: In May, Tyler Perry revealed he will start shooting his BET shows “Sistas” and “The Oval” in July. The announcement came as much of the film industry was in a shutdown with no timeline to resume productions.

As we previously reported, “Sistas” completed shooting at Perry’s Atlanta studio, but four people tested positive for the virus when they arrived. Two of them were crew members and two were extras. Tyler Perry talked about the obstacles of resuming production in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter on July 29th.

“We had a couple of concerns,” he explained. “We had four positives. Here’s how it went: We had 160 people check in the first day, go to their rooms, get tested and wait for their results. Nobody was able to leave their rooms. We had two positives in that. So we had them escorted out and got the help that they needed.”

“Then 200 people checked in [soon after] and we had two positive inside of the 200. We had them escorted out and got them the help that they needed. So we had four before anybody left their rooms, before anybody started work. Those rooms were kept closed and off limits to anybody until after we finished shooting.”

“Sistas” finished filming its 22-episode season on Saturday, July 25, in just 11 days, while “The Oval” was supposed to start shooting on Thursday, July 30. But those plans may have to be changed, since a couple of cast members tested positive for the novel coronavirus before traveling to Perry’s studio.

“Unfortunately I have two cast members that have tested positive,” he said. “They’re reoccurring. So I’m trying to figure out, what do I do? Do I add two days of shooting to the end of the other shows that I’m working on to give them time to be negative? But they’re asymptomatic. So I’m just waiting to see what the best way to do that is. But everything will flow just as ‘Sistas’ did.”

“One person is in North Carolina and the other person is in Atlanta, so they wouldn’t be on a plane flying in,” added Perry. “So we’re just waiting. We need two negative tests before they can come back to work.”

The cast and crew of “Sistas” arrived at the studio on July 13th. They received tests and stayed in their rooms until results came in. From there, everyone is tested every four days while shooting was underway.

Tyler Perry wraps production on ‘Sistas’ with ‘The Oval’ to film next.

Update July 30, 2020: After wrapping production on his BET series “Sistas” without a COVID-19 during the two-week shoot. Now, production for “The Oval” is ramping up as the cast and crew are setting up to arrive at Tyler Perry Studios on Thursday. Tyler Perry says there is not much he plans to do differently this time around, especially when it comes to wearing masks and around the campus.

“I made sure that the cast and crew and everybody wore their masks when they weren’t on set because I do know for a fact that masks help stop the spread — scientifically, I know that,” Perry tells Variety. “And everybody adhered to that, even though we were all testing negative. I just didn’t want someone to be incubating with [COVID-19] for three to 12 days, and we not know it.”

Tyler Perry and the production crew for “Sistas” wore their masks for 12 to 14 hours at a time while shooting the 22-episode season.

“Listen, I was the mask police. Every time I saw something I was screaming about it,” Perry says. “It’s summer in Georgia so credit to the crew — it’s burning up here and they were still doing the right thing. So, I gave a lot more breaks for people to have water because we had a couple people that got dehydrated from all the heat, and the water breaks were actually the ‘breath break’ where you can pull your mask down, drink some water and get some fresh air.”

Tyler Perry talked about setting the tone and being a leader on set. “For me, once I got the actors comfortable seeing me looking like a man from outer space, it was fine. But you’ve got to remember that I direct in a wig and a dress sometimes so that wasn’t as odd for me,” he joked with Variety.

Tyler Perry worked with leaders in the health and science community to perfect the quarantine bubble. Tyler Perry’s team includes Emory University’s Dr. Carlos Del Rio, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and Dr. Colleen Kraft. Together they created a testing schedule and a nasal swab test administered upon arrival at Tyler Perry Studios.

“Every fourth day was so important and that’s when my anxiety was raised most, [especially] in those first two tests, because I was so concerned,” he recalls.

The first 150 cast and crew moved into Tyler Perry Studios, two people tested positive during the initial period. The next 200 people arrived a few days later, two more people tested positive during their first test. Those total four people never worked on set and received medical attention.

“I felt this wave of relief after the last test results, where everybody was negative, I was like, ‘Okay, we pulled it off,’ so I’m so proud of my crew,” Perry says, celebrating his group of “underdogs” for the achievement. “I don’t know how any other production, if you’re not in quarantine, I don’t know how you do it, but testing is key.”

Tyler Perry took care to address COVID-19 behind the scenes, he says his show will not discuss the pandemic.

“All these scripts were finished right at the time that COVID started to show up,” Perry explains. “And also, what I know about COVID is people are tired of hearing of it, and entertainment is escape, so I don’t think my audience want to brought into more of what is happening in their reality. All of my work has been about escapism, so I’m just going to hold to escapism.”

He did explain the biggest challenge was a reduced crew size. Perry explains they reduced production to about 80 to 100 people. When asked if he will continue to reduce crew sizes in the future he says, there is a chance.

“I think that the producers and the people who are controlling the purse strings would definitely want to hold it to this [size],” Perry says. “But I can tell you that it was stressful on some of my crew, because they were down people. So, I would make sure that they had what they needed to continue this way.”

Tyler Perry also discussed working with fewer background extras. “The extras are a problem, especially when you’re doing big scenes and you only have 10 extras. You’re changing their clothes, moving them around the room and hoping that people don’t recognize them, trying to shoot the back of their heads or having the crew jump in and be extras. That was a challenge. Some things I think we will be good for this [to continue], but others won’t work.”

Tyler Perry says filming in the pandemic is expensive Michelle Sneed the president of production and development for Tyler Perry told Variety how it cost much more to produce the series.

“The most important thing is to trust people to do their job and to be able to acclimate to whatever these COVID standards are,” Sneed says. “What COVID does for production is slow it down — it costs money and it slows it down. So, our thing was, is it going to be ridiculous for cast to wear masks? Can a cast member really take off their mask as soon as they open their mouth to do a scene? Absolutely — they can and they did. Can our camera people really wear a face shield with a mask even if he wears eyeglasses. Absolutely, yes he did. So I think it’s trusting these professionals and crew to do what they have to do.”

Tyler Perry added over 300 one-bedroom housing units with private bathrooms and 60 housing units for cast and crew. He also purchased 70 golf carts for transporting cast and crew around the campus. The biggest cost was acquiring the different kinds of PPP equipment. “We’d discover we have to get the $15 per face shield, versus the $3 one that we had budgeted for, for departments that rely heavily on face shields, or get these version of the goggles for this department, so that really adds up,” she explains.

When it came to entertaining the cast and crew during the shutdown, Tyler Perry explained, “When you’ve got 360 adults were working these kinds of hours, of course, I had to have a bar, food trucks, and movie night on the lawn and church on Sunday, so that people could feel like they were at least not in prison,” Perry says.

Tyler Perry concluded the interview by offering advice to aspiring filmmakers, actors, and producers. ““I come from a people who had to find a way — make your own way, own your own way, build your business, build your studio. That’s my mentality, so rather than asking Hollywood what they can do, I want to see more people like me, just come in and own, and take a sledgehammer to anything that is unjust,” he explains. “Ownership is what really changes things long term, because what happens is, when there’s a movement, people get excited and they’re with it. But when it fades, things tend to go back to where they were. If there are more people in ownership and more people in power and more people rising through the ranks in Hollywood, I think that is that is the change that is really needed to make a long-term difference.”

Tyler Perry‘s ‘Sistas’ starting production in Atlanta, Georgia with ‘The Oval’ to quickly follow.

Update July 15, 2020 – Tyler Perry’s BET series ‘Sistas’ started production this week. The cast and the crew of the series had been quarantined at the Atlanta-based Tyler Perry Studios since last week when actors were flown in from Los Angeles and New York on Tyler Perry’s private plane.

According to Deadline, the cast has tested negative and filming started on Tuesday night with a night shoot.

If ‘Sistas’ is able to finish its second season as planed, the cast and crew from Tyler Perry’s other BET series ‘The Oval’ will start filming July 30 for the Season 2 production.

As we previously reported, both shows will follow Tyler Perry’s filming guidelines which include strict testing and quadrating the shows cast and crew on his 330-acre studio.

Update May 13, 2020 – Tyler Perry will resume production on two shows starting this July in Atlanta, Georgia following the Coronavirus shutdown.

Several weeks ago, Tyler Perry was one of the first Hollywood producers to create a plan to restart filming. Now, he is the first producer to announce start dates for his television shows. On July 8, Tyler Perry will start two BET series including ‘Sistas’ and ‘The Oval’. As a result, production will start shortly at Tyler Perry Studios.

According to Deadline, ‘Sistas’ will start filming on July 8 in Atlanta, Georgia, and ‘The Oval’ will start filming on July 28th. Both series were renewed by BET after receiving high ratings in their first seasons. Tyler Perry will reportedly film 44 episodes in a little over one month.

The facility will have strict rules that include testing and keeping the cast and crew on Tyler Perry Studios’ 330-acre lot. Tyler Perry is expected to remain on the lot for the duration of the shoot along with the cast and crew. The existing homes on the former military base will provide housing for everyone working on the show.

Perry described to Deadline he spoke with leading unions to set guidelines during the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Deadline reports Perry’s precautions are expected to surpass other guidelines in other production companies.

Perry was clear he would only start production if every cast member was okay with returning. The news outlet reports Tyler Perry held video conference calls with the cast of his shows to showcase his production plans. After testing, the cast will fly to Atlanta. Once they arrive, everyone will be tested and quarantined for four hours as they await results. The cast and crew will be tested 4 times over the course of filming and Emory Vaccine Center professor Carlos Del Rio will serve as the testing consultant.

If successful, Tyler Perry’s quick response to the pandemic will lay the foundation for other production companies to follow.

Original Post – May 7, 2020: Tyler Perry is reopening up Tyler Perry Studios

A studio spokesperson told GBPNews the studio will reopen in a limited capacity. Changes to the studio include temporary on-site housing for production crews and staff.

Earlier this week, a special meeting of the Fort McPherson Board of Directors was called and a resolution was passed to lease a portion of the property to create temporary housing on the Tyler Perry Studio campus.

“The goal of resolution and agreement is to make sure that the talented staff and crews can be housed safely while getting people back to work during this unprecedented financial and health-related crisis,” Fort Mac spokesman Mark Hayes said.

Tyler Perry owns the 330-acre Tyler Perry Studios, which is the site of former U.S. Army military base Fort McPherson in East Point, Georgia. The studio currently has 12 soundstage and 200 acres of green space.

Original post – April 26, 2020: Tyler Perry is working on a plan to reopen Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.

Tyler Perry’s Tyler Perry Studios is one of the most significant studio properties in the world. His production facilities are the home to several of his TV shows, movies, and Marvel’s ‘Black Panther‘.

Amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 Outbreak, many productions are struggling to find a way to bring back cast and crew safely. According to TMZ, Tyler Perry is planning on reopening his 330-acre Atlanta Studio Complex but, with some new rules.

TMZ’s sources say productions filmed at his facility will have the cast and crew check-in on the first day. Tyler Perry Studios will test everyone, and those who are found negative will be allowed on to the lot, where they will live for the duration of filming.

Considering the facility is a former army base, there are 141 barracks on-site. Also, Tyler Perry built 30 houses on the lot for various productions, which are all fully functional homes. Furthermore, TMZ reports if this is successful, Tyler Perry is considering building hotels.

The cast and crew can also use all of the facilities, including a gym, a bar, and restaurants. Tyler Perry built a hospital for one of the shows, and Tyler Perry believes he thinks it can become functional enough to hire medical staff, including doctors and nurses.

Tyler perry would start with his productions, which are six TV shows. Each TV show takes about 2.5 weeks to film, so the cast and crew would show up and stay for just about three weeks. A few weeks later, the same team would return to shoot another season for the show. Also, cast and crew would get extra pay for filming during the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak.

That said, there are still issues such as small speaking roles and background extras? Or, what happens if a cast or crew member has to leave for emergency purposes. TMZ reports, Tyler Perry is checking with unions and other executives, but it sounds like a fantastic way to get filming back to Atlanta, Georgia.

In relevant news, Sweden and Denmark have restarted TV and movie production.

Sweden and Denmark are among the first countries in the world to put in place specific government guidelines and allow production to start.

The measures were listed in a document called the “Nordic Film Guide” made with production company Hobby Film and based data from both Sweden and Denmark. Hobby Film, which mostly makes commercials and is known for producing projects for H&M, Netflix, McDonald’s, and Heineken.

The new rules cancel the possibility of large crowd scenes and large production staff numbers.

“It is deemed irresponsible to execute crowd scenes where social distancing cannot be upheld to a satisfactory degree, as the risk of contagion is considered to be too high,” said the guide, sharing the example of a nightclub scene is a health risk.

Kissing and intimate scenes are not recommended for those older than 70. The Scandanavian website explains there “are no official rules regarding kissing, sex scenes and scenes that require one actor to touch another’s face,” casting actors at an “increased risk of severe illness.”

Sweden, Denmark Restart Film Production with New Coronavirus Rules

New Coronavirus rules reveal how Sweden and Denmark plan to restart their film production as soon as possible.

Across the United States, producers shut down filming due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It is causing hundreds of thousands if not, millions of people looking for work during the COVID-19 crisis. But, two European countries restart film production with new Coronavirus rules.

According to Variety, Sweden and Denmark are among the first countries in the world to put in place specific government guidelines and allow production to start.

The measures were listed in a document called the “Nordic Film Guide” made with production company Hobby Film and based data from both Sweden and Denmark. Hobby Film, which mostly makes commercials and is known for producing projects for H&M, Netflix, McDonald’s, and Heineken.

Other productions have banned the use of background actors. The Nordic Film Guide suggests, a limitation of background actors and All background talent, should to the greatest extent possible, wear their clothes and dress from home. If this is not possible – production is required to provide dressing facilities where social distancing measures are followed.

Highlights of the new rules:

  • Maximum of 50 people on set
  • Leaner crews and planning to ensure departments can work independently
  • Every person inside an interior shot needs to have 4 square meters of space (This rules out the possibility of large crowd scenes.

Coronavirus: Filming in Los Angeles Drops Nearly 20%

Filming in Los Angeles reveals the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic is having a disastrous impact on the city’s film industry.

According to FilmLA’s quarterly production reports reveals how much of an impact COVID-19 is having on Hollywood’s film industry. The report says on-location shooting in the greater Los Angeles area was down 18 percent in 2020, and the numbers will continue to fall.

Filming was stable in January but began to slow down in March 2020. One thousand ninety-one local productions were filming in February with 644 projects by mid-March before all productions shut down on March 20 due to the state’s “Safer at Home” orders. Los Angeles production has shut down indefinitely since the Coronavirus pandemic.

Analysts predict losses due to the COVID-19 outbreak are unrecoverable for the rest of 2020.

“Because we’ve gone to zero and it will be at zero for all of April and more than likely all of May, the second quarter will also be dismal as far as these numbers go,” FilmLA’s president Paul Audley tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Even if when production returns, it picks up at a greater volume than before, it isn’t going to make up for the loss. So the end of this year will be a lower statistical number than we’ve seen perhaps in the last decade.”

Television saw the most significant decline, which is bad news since a majority of all productions filming in Los Angeles, were scripted TV series. That said, TV reality production increased by 11.7 percent and 771 shoot days, in comparison to 690 shoot days in 2019.

Feature film production dropped by 6 percent to 665 shoot days, comparison to 708 shoot days in 2019. Feature films now filming in Los Angeles include Will Smith’s ‘King Richard’ and Russo Brothers’ “Everything, Everything All at Once.”

In relevant news, Hollywood executives are not in a rush to film in Georgia. According to a new Deadline report, even if Georgia plans to relax restrictions to include more film and TV production, Hollywood studios are not planning on taking advantage of filming in Georgia any time soon. Two New York City Cats Test Positive for Coronavirus

Two cats from two different households in New York City have tested positive for the Coronavirus COVID-19.

This news makes cats the first two housesits to test positive for the coronavirus in the United States.

According to CNN, two pets exhibited mild respiratory symptoms before being tested and are expected to make a full recovery. This news comes after, a tiger and lion at the Bronx Zoo also tested positive for the virus.

Currently, it is unclear where one of the cats contracted the virus’ while it is possible the cat got the virus from someone in the household who did not have symptoms.

The CDC says there is little evidence to suggest pets can infect humans at this time, despite a few cases of person-to-animal infections. However, it is possibly a good idea to watch where your pets go when they are not in your house. The CDC recommendation is that cats should be kept indoors as much as possible, and your pets should remain 6 feet away from others and refrain from spending time with people or other pets outside of your contact group.

Coronavirus: Hollywood is Not Rushing to Film in Georgia

Hollywood is not rushing to film in Georgia despite easing of shelter-in-place restrictions.

Georgia is the leading film and TV filming location in the United States. Earlier this week, Gov. Brian Kemp announced they would be one of the first states to ease their COVID-19 shelter-in-place restrictions this weekend, with movie theaters, barbershops, and other businesses allowed to re-open on Monday, April 27.

At this time, the new order does not include studio operations, and there is still a limit on public gathers. But, the film production business may be allowed to open their doors soon.

According to a new Deadline report, even if Georgia plans to relax restrictions to include more film and TV production, Hollywood studios are not planning on taking advantage of filming in Georgia any time soon. Not until testing across the nation increases dramatically, and industry guidelines are created to provide a safe environment for their cast and crew.

Netflix’ Stranger Things’ Filming production shutdown

Arguably, one of the biggest shows includes Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ was filming in Georgia when production was shut down indefinitely due to the Coronavirus pandemic.  At this time, production has suspended until further notice.

Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos explained, despite the state’s decisions to ease restrictions, productions cannot begin until rigorous testing.

“We have to be able to look our employees and cast and crew in the eyes and say, ‘This is a safe place to work,'” he said.

The company is reportedly working with production partners and local governments.

One producer in Georgia told Deadline he does not support Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp. “I will not endorse a Governor and put my cast and crew members in any situation without a significant degree of certainty that they will be safe,” the person said. “I don’t give a sh–. I’m not going.”

The National Association of Theater Owners issued a statement saying, “while some states and localities are beginning to authorize the opening of movie theaters under certain conditions,”… “many theaters will not be able to open feasibly.”

Donald Trump on Gov. Brian Kemp

In related news, President Donald Trump said he told Gov. Brian Kemp “I disagree strongly” with his decision to open up businesses, but he will not stop him.

“I told the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, that I disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities,” Trump said at his daily coronavirus briefing Wednesday. “But at the same time, he must do what he thinks is right. I want him to do what he thinks is right. But I disagree with him on what he’s doing.”

Kemp tweeted after the president’s remarks that he appreciated Trump’s “bold leadership and insight during these difficult times,” but he didn’t back down. “Our next measured step is driven by data and guided by state public health officials. We will continue with this approach to protect the lives – and livelihoods – of all Georgians,” Kemp wrote.

It begs the question, what kind of production standards can we expect once production resumes. Australian production ‘Neighbours’ is creating a Coronavirus production guidelines roadmap that other Hollywood movies and shows could potentially follow. Some of the rules include banning background extras and increased testing.

Sterling K. Brown Reveals His Acting Secret His NYU Teacher Taught Him

Sterling K. Brown reveals acting is not about being liked but being in character.

Actor Sterling K. Brown was interviewed with Vulture about the season finale of the hit NBC series ‘This is Us’. In the interview, Brown opens up about his grad school experience at NYU and what one professor told him, which has had a profound impact on his acting career.

Brown reflected on the common problem actors have while working on TV shows and movies. Most actors want to be liked by the audience. Brown explains, Brown says: “A teacher of mine when I was in grad school at NYU made it very clear to me that a lot of young actors fall into this desire to be liked all the time, and want their characters to be liked, and that the goal of an actor is not for your character to be liked.”

He adds, “The goal is for your character to be understood. So it’s been a really interesting phenomenon to play someone and for three years to be in lockstep agreement with the choices that they make.”

Brown also talked about mental illness and going to therapy. “I encourage everyone who has the resources and the desire to push that stigma to the side and recognize that nothing is more important than your own well-being. People will actually gravitate to you in a really wonderful way when you share your truth without fear of judgment.”

Netflix Adds 16 Million Subscribers, ‘Tiger King’ Reaches 64 Million Viewers

0

Netflix’s growth surges with ‘Tiger King’ and ‘Ozark,’ the most popular shows of early 2020.

Netflix added nearly 16 million paid streaming accounts in the first three months of 2020, beating prior estimates thanks to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing guidelines.

The streaming platform announced the company had 182.9 million paid subscribers around the world at the end of the first quarter of 2020. Netflix previously estimated only adding 7.0 million subscribers in the quarter, but it was before COVID-19 forced millions of people to stay at home. Following the immense growth in the first three months of 2020, the platform expects slower growth after the lockdown is lifted throughout the rest of the year.

“[O]ur membership growth has temporarily accelerated due to home confinement,” Netflix said in its letter to shareholders. The company also announced the shutdown of Hollywood productions, has improved their “free cash flow” but, some productions will be delayed by approximately three months.

Netflix also said, “sharply stronger U.S. dollar” depressed international revenue. The company said customer-support operations had problems before the company hired 2,000 new work-from-home support representatives.

While financial analysts predicted Netflix to surge in growth during the pandemic, no one expected 16 million subscribers. Netflix made $5.77 billion in the first quarter and a net income of $709 million. Netflix projects 7.5 million additions. “Hopefully, progress against the virus will allow governments to lift the home confinement soon,” it said in the shareholder letter. “As that happens, we expect viewing and growth to decline.”

Netflix revealed its most popular productions, which was “Tiger King”. Nielsen estimated 34 million people watched the show in the first ten days, beating “Stranger Things” season 2. However, Netflix reveals 64 million people watched the “Tiger King”, beating earlier predictions. “Spenser Confidential” had 85 million viewers, and the dating show “Love is Blind” had 30 million.

Here’s a breakdown of Netflix reported ratings:

  • Tiger King – 64 million
  • Spenser Confidential – 85 million
  • Love is Blind – 30 million.
  • La Casa de Papel (“Money Heist”) – 65 million
  • Ozark – 29 million

Netflix is preparing for more competition. WarnerMedia plans to launch HBO Max on May 27, NBCUniversal is starting Peacock on July 15, Disney Plus signed up 50 million paid subscribers, and Quibi was recently released.

Coronavirus: New Production Rules Bans Extras from Working on Set

Australian production ‘Neighbours’ is creating a Coronavirus production guidelines roadmap that other Hollywood movies and shows could potentially follow.

As we previously reported, Hollywood insiders do not believe filming will return until September. However, one production in Australia is ramping up filming and has created a set of guidelines, which, if successful, could become the new standard.

Deadline reports Australia’s long-running soap opera ‘Neighbours’ will start filming next week after a monthlong production shutdown because of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The movie will be the first suspended TV series to restart production.

Here are the following safety guidelines, which are being created and, if successful, could be the new rules for reopening up the film industry.

  1. The studio space will be divided up into parts, with production teams isolated from each other.
  2. Three actors are allowed to work together at one time. In the event, if someone gets sick, only that part of the studio will be suspended, and production will continue in another area of the studio.

“There will be no more than 100 people a day in any area, we’ll implement the four-square-meter rule and the one-and-a-half-meter social distancing rule,” Fremantle Australia boss Chris Oliver-Taylor told Australia’s ABC, which airs Neighbours.”

  3. There will be a nurse on set.
  4. Everyone will have their temperature check.
  5. Male actors will not have make-up, and actresses will not be touched up.
  6. Actors will practice social distancing. There will be no physical contact between actors (ie, no kissing, holding hands, or intimate scenes). Camera angles will be used to make actors look close.
  7. There will be no outside extras. Crew members will work as background actors.

In related news, a new report revealed Hollywood does not expect filming to return until September.

The article continues by explaining new protocols that producers will add to address the film industry amid the Coronavirus, including contracts identifying production companies in case you get sick from the Coronavirus during production.

“You acknowledge you are going into a high-density area, and while we will make our best effort to protect you, nothing is failsafe, and if you contract COVID-19, we are not liable,” said a source involved drawing up these guidelines told Deadline. “There is no other way we can think of to address this. If you don’t want to sign, don’t take the job.”

‘The Witcher’ Casting Director Says She’s Facetiming Actors During Hollywood Shutdown

Netflix’sThe Witcher‘ casting opens up about how the Coronavirus is impacting her casting business.

Casting director, Sophie Holland, spoke with Deadline about how the Coronavirus Pandemic has changed her life and how she’s adjusting to Hollywood shut down.

The Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has shut down Hollywood for the unforeseeable future. Sophie Holland explains how she found out the shutdown.

She explains, “My assistant Faye Timby and I were halfway through filming season two of The Witcher and had the note from them that they were going to pause production. We had to make phone calls to people to say they’re not filming. I’m married to an actor and Faye lives with an actor, and it became clear early on that our working life was going to be put on hold. It was such a blow that we couldn’t figure out how we were going to get through it.”

Holland says it has given her more time to audition actors online, which allows her to store actors for future projects. She explains, “We are literally having facetime with actors from all over the world — people that we wouldn’t normally have access to. It could just be a chat, they might want to do a piece, like a monologue, or they might just want to draw attention to some clips on their showreels. There’s been some really interesting actors that I didn’t know about before that I’m meeting now. I can definitely see that our paths will cross again in the future. I can already think of roles that might match with people I’ve spoken to. It’s also given me a sense that the industry still goes on.”

Actor Handcuffed for Self-Taping a Monologue

Los Angeles actor was handcuffed for a self-taping monologue.

LA actor Tyree Freely says he was self-taping a monologue from August Wilson’s Jitney in his apartment for casting director Lean Daniels-Butler’s Quarantine Project. Then he heard a knock on his door and it was the police.

“I looked through the peephole and didn’t see anything, so I opened the door to see 2 LAPD officers on the sides of my door. They told me to step out of my own home as they asked me who was inside. As I informed them that it was just me inside, they weren’t trying to tell me what happened nor were they trying to tell me their names. I told them how I was making a self tape for class (though they didn’t know what a self tape was nor did they believe me). Then, they were trying to place me under arrest for something I had no idea about.”

Apparently, a neighbor heard Freely’s audition and was concerned. As a result, his neighborhood called the LAPD.

“They finally told me someone called them because of some possible fighting going on here, so instead of asking me to wait outside, they decided to ‘detain’ me … They finally said it was suspicion of domestic violence in my apartment! AS I AM IN MY HOME BY MYSELF! Who am I beating up? Myself?”

Freely took to Instagram to share his story and include video taped from the incident. You can view that below:

Hey what’s up Instagram. I was filming a self-tape this morning for @ldbcasting @thats_mrs_butler_2_you, and I heard a knock at the door. I looked through the peephole and didn’t see anything, so I opened the door to see 2 LAPD officers on the sides of my door. They told me to step out of my own home as they asked me who was inside. As I informed them that it was just me inside, they weren’t trying to tell me what happened nor were they trying to tell me their names. I told them how I was making a self tape for class (though they didn’t know what a self tape was nor did they believe me). Then, they were trying to place me under arrest for something I had no idea about. I kept asking why are you trying to place me in handcuffs, and you can hear the officer saying, “You’re lucky we didn’t just grab you and throw you in handcuffs.” For whaat ?!? Being black in my own home? They finally told me someone called them because of some possible fighting going on here, so instead of asking me to wait outside, they decided to “detain” me. So I politely complied w/ their orders as I refuse to be another hashtag. As I was placed in handcuffs, one officer searched my whole apartment as no one was there (like I said). (FYI, soon as you walk in, you could literally see my tripod/ring light set up w/ my phone on it) They finally said it was suspicion of domestic violence in my apartment! AS I AM IN MY HOME BY MYSELF! Who am I beating up? Myself? This was completely uncalled for as I was taken out of my own home to be handcuffed for doing a monologue. Also, they were too close to me to begin with. I thought we were suppose to be social distancing as I’m being placed in metal handcuffs that could’ve been infested w/ Rona germs. I apologize @ldbcasting for not submitting in a timely manner, but this is what I was dealing with. I didn’t even get to finish my take as this was take 4. Thank you officers Velasco and Terzes for ruining my self tape and also this entire monologue for me. The devil is a liar & I am blessed. God I thank you for covering me because it could’ve went a totally different route. #quarantinemonologues #black #disrespectful #God #artistsoninstagram #Jitney

Coronavirus: Idris Elba and His Wife Launch $40 Million Fund

Idris Elba and his wife launch a $40 million fund to help those affected by the Coronavirus.

Only a few weeks ago, Idris Elba revealed he and his wife contracted the Coronavirus. He says the experience was “definitely scary and unsettling and nervous.”

“You know, everyone’s sort of feeling the way we have been feeling, but it has definitely been sort of just a complete upheaval,” he told the Associated Press late last week.

He says the COVID-19 Pandemic is a remind “the world doesn’t tick on your time.”

“I think that the world should take a week of quarantine every year just to remember this time. Remember each other. I really do,” he said.

The actor spoke with the Associated Press as they started an initiative with the United Nations to help farmers and food producers in rural areas who were impacted by COVID-19. Idris and his wife Dhowre Elba are U.N. Goodwill Ambassadors and joined with the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development to start the new $40 million fund.

“People forget that 80 percent of the poor population live in these rural areas,” Dhowre Elba said. “What we are really worried about at the moment, and why we are launching this fund, is that those people are being forgotten.”

“If you imagine being in a village where no one even knows the name of your village or your population, and that you live in a slum where there is one room and six of you live in it,” he said, “social distancing is almost laughable.”

Elba said he was concerned about the impact the Coronavirus will have in countries that are already struggling. “We have to think about forward planning. What’s the fallout going to be?” he said.

Elba and his wife were in New Mexico recovering while he was filming a new movie. The plan is to return to London as soon as possible. He says he had to miss his 6-year old son’s birthday because of the quarantine.

“We’ve been fortunate,” added Elba. “We have been staying in a lovely place that’s been very comfortable for the time. But we’re looking forward to going home.”

The Michael Jordan documentary “Last Dance” is a significant rating hit for ESPN.

The documentary averaged 6.1 million viewers for the first two episodes of the documentary series, which is great news for Disney as the company pivots amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 shutdown.

Variety reports data from Nielsen, which says 3.5 million people watched the episodes in the key demographic of 18 and 49.

ESPN originally scheduled this ten-part series to air in June, with plans to connect the series to the NBA Finals and promote it to NBA fans. However, with the Coronavirus pandemic shutting down sports leagues, tournaments, and Hollywood-related productions, ESPN executives decided to premiere the documentary early. The documentary centers around Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls as they attempted to win their sixth NBA championship.

Coronavirus: Georgia to Reopen Businesses This Friday

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced on Monday the state’s plan to reopen the state, which includes movie theaters to open as early as next week following Coronavirus stay-at-home orders.

According to MarketWatch, Georgia’s timeline is “one of the most aggressive in the nation”. The plan to reopen the government will allow gyms, hair salons, and tattoo parlors to reopen as on gas the businesses follow strict social-distancing and hygiene requirements. Movie theaters may start selling tickets, and restaurants will be limited to takeout orders that could return to limited in-house eating service.

However, nightclubs, bars, and live performance events will remain closed.

“I think this is the right approach at the right time,” Kemp said. “We’re not just throwing the keys back to these business owners. We’re talking about people the government shut down their business.”

“The bottom line is, social distancing worked,” state Public Health Commissioner Kathleen Toomey told a handful of reporters after Kemp’s news conference.

Georgia National Guard will start deploying teams to nursing homes and long-term rehabilitation facilities for conducting 1,500 Coronavirus COVID-19 tests per day.

“Testing defines the battlefield and informs our long-term strategy,” Kemp said. “These efforts significantly increase our capacity as we take measured steps forward.”

Gov. Kemp’s announcement comes after President Donald Trump and protestors called for a lift of stay-at-home orders.

Coronavirus: Filming Won’t Start Back Until 2021 (UPDATE)

Hollywood is getting hit hard by the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak with filming not set to resume until 2021.

Most studio productions have shut down indefinitely and others are figuring out ways to reopen their facilities.

Despite the health crisis, studio executives are looking into ways to safely resume production. According to Varietystudios and production companies are researching how to accomplish a safe and secure production facility to resume filming movies later this year.

However, according to Elsa Ramo, an attorney who has represented Skydance Media, warns filming may not start until after 2020. “I have a lot of clients with productions that they want to shoot in 2020,” Ramo told Variety. “But it would be arrogant and misleading of me to offer them any sort of assurance that’s possible.” Especially, if another outbreak returns, later on, this year, any plans to restart production in 2020 is far too optimistic for major productions.

“But it would be arrogant and misleading of me to offer them any sort of assurance that’s possible.”

In relevant news, Tyler Perry is working on a plan to reopen Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.

Original report: April 20, 2020: Filming will not start until September, according to a new report.

In a new report by Deadline outlining how the film industry will change due to the Coronavirus pandemic, writers reveal Hollywood insiders believe filming will not start until September with optimistic estimates being July to August.

“We are still months away from cameras rolling — studios’ most optimistic projections are for July-August production restarts, and the more realistic ones are aiming to be up and running by September.”

It was previously reported filming will start back up earlier than previously anticipated. However, in California, increases in new COVID-19 cases and deaths in Los Angeles County caused that to stop.

Industry executives, film commissions, and union representatives are working together to list safety concerns and create solutions once filming resumes. One of the most significant issues is testing. Deadline reports they would like to have everyone tested before they are allowed on set and having test results within 15 to 20 minutes. Also, implementing antibody tests to detect if someone has immunity to the virus.

Also, there will be a health questionnaire, a temperature check, and hygiene training. The process is anticipated to take 90 minutes once each person arrives on set. However, this does come with a long list of privacy issues. Crew members would also no longer be allowed to share tools, and craft services will no longer allow a cafeteria-style meal.

Actors will also receive a higher level of protection as they are essential to keep production moving. Deadline says to keep them safe, actors and directors will have to wear masks and gloves at all times. Besides, there is a lot of concern regarding scenes that require a lot of background actors. One possibility is a move toward visual effects were background extras will be green-screened into a frame. The goal is to keep the stars of the show from getting sick.

“The economics right now are worse than they have ever been, and the box office muted, so it is a double whammy, and without the incentives and rebates that come with shooting outside the U.S., you could not absorb the extra costs,” said a source to Deadline. “The hard part is, you go around the world looking for the best tax incentives and put movies in Budapest, Serbia, and Australia, and now you have to tell an A-list actor they have to get on a plane for eight hours to spend 16 weeks away. What if they get sick there? How do you get them to feel safe?”
