‘The Last Dance’ Michael Jordan Documentary is a Ratings Hit

Date:

The Michael Jordan documentary “Last Dance” is a significant rating hit for ESPN.

The documentary averaged 6.1 million viewers for the first two episodes of the documentary series, which is great news for Disney as the company pivots amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 shutdown.

Variety reports data from Nielsen, which says 3.5 million people watched the episodes in the key demographic of 18 and 49.

ESPN originally scheduled this ten-part series to air in June, with plans to connect the series to the NBA Finals and promote it to NBA fans. However, with the Coronavirus pandemic shutting down sports leagues, tournaments, and Hollywood-related productions, ESPN executives decided to premiere the documentary early. The documentary centers around Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls as they attempted to win their sixth NBA championship.
