Hercules Live-Action Disney Movie is Coming Soon

Hercules’ live-action movie is coming soon with Disney.

According to reports, Disney is working on a live-action remake of their hit 1997 animated movie “Hercules” with the team who made the “Avengers” movie, including Joe and Anthony Russo.

Disney hired the talented Dave Callahan (“Godzilla,” “Zombieland: Double Tap,” “Wonder Woman 1984“, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) to write the “Hercules” script. Previously, Callahan worked with Sylvester Stallone for the original “The Expendables” screenplay with plans to create the character to build the Hercules franchise.

Ron Clements and John Musker directed the animated Disney movie. Tate Donovan voiced Hercules. In the film, Hercules is kidnapped as a baby by Hades, and Hades forces him to live among mortals as a demigod. To prove himself worthy to return to Mount Olympus, he must complete a set of challenges. As a result, he learns to defeat evil creatures.

The movie would later make $252 million at the box office. In comparison to “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin” Disney animated movies, it was not a hit. That said, the Russo brothers are known for creating hit movies. The duo is behind “Avengers: Endgame,” which is the highest-grossing film of all time, with $2.79 billion worldwide.

Coronavirus: Vancouver Could Be One of the First Places to Reopen for Filming

Vancouver is focusing on the film and tech industry to boost the economy following the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to Daily Hive, Mayor Kennedy Stewart spoke to reporters on Wednesday, explaining the city’s plan to boost the economy following the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

“Right now, we have fewer resources than ever before,” he says. “That’s not a recipe or a safe and healthy city or the foundations for a strong economic recovery.”

“Despite these challenges, Vancouver remains a city of promise and opportunity.”

The Mayor continued by saying he is conducting virtual meetings with local leaders, and influencers from major sectors of the economy.

When asked about specific industries, Stewart mentioned British Colombia’s film and tech industry.

“I was very heartened to hear that the Premier is thinking about how we can find a way to safely restart our film and television industry,” he says. “We are ready to work with the province and the industry to think creatively and make this happen while keeping everyone safe.”

Stewart added that given Vancouver’s response to the virus, and the ability to ease restrictions in the near future, the city could be in a great position for filmmaking.

“If we can, Vancouver can be amongst the first places in the world that reopens for business in this multi-billion dollar sector,” he explains. “This is a huge opportunity for us.”

Moreover, Hollywood is not rushing to film in Georgia despite easing of shelter-in-place restrictions.

Georgia is the leading film and TV filming location in the United States. Earlier this week, Gov. Brian Kemp announced they would be one of the first states to ease their COVID-19 shelter-in-place restrictions this weekend, with movie theaters, barbershops, and other businesses allowed to re-open on Monday, April 27.

At this time, the new order does not include studio operations, and there is still a limit on public gathers. But, the film production business may be allowed to open their doors soon.

According to a new Deadline report, even if Georgia plans to relax restrictions to include more film and TV production, Hollywood studios are not planning on taking advantage of filming in Georgia any time soon. Not until testing across the nation increases dramatically, and industry guidelines are created to provide a safe environment for their cast and crew.

Coronavirus: Hollywood Actors are Refusing to Get Back to Work

Hollywood is preparing Coronavirus rules and guidelines to restart production, but some actors are not interested in returning to work.

The Coronavirus COVID-19 has shutdown production across the country if not, the world. However, the multi-billion dollar industry is thinking about the future and how Hollywood will start up once the pandemic is over.

According to a new report by The Hollywood Reporterstudios and unions are considering ways to restart the film industry. The goal is to make sure the cast and crew are safe on set. Rules to avoid exposure to the virus include the end of a communal craft services table, inviting friends and family over to the set, and even kissing scenes unless there is a Coronavirus vaccine.

The report explains Disney, Warner Bros., IATSE, Pinewood Studios, Directors Guild of America, and various film commissions are working on the way to reopen the film industry.

California film commissioner Colleen Bell told The Hollywood Reporter, “There will be new production procedures and protocols that are rooted in safeguarding health, but what exactly they’ll end up being will look different for, say, a small production company compared to a large studio.”

Smaller productions will more likely start filming before the more significant budget projects. “What we’re hearing is that when production begins to reopen, it’ll be done in phases,” FilmLA president Paul Audley told THR. “And the first phase most likely will include a numbers restriction and social distancing measures, so that would mean that any film permits will only be issued for very small productions.”

Currently, producers and studios hope productions to start as early as July to August but, that may be too soon.

Los Angeles health officials are meeting with reps and Hollywood influencers to see how to start productions and answer questions such as how do we make sure the cast and crew are safe on set.

Pinewood Atlanta Studios has already started working on providing a cleaner environment. According to the report, the leading production facility installed handwashing stations on set. “I’m usually excited about a great script, but right now, I’m finding that I’m excited to be coming up with handwashing solutions,” Pinewood president Frank Patterson told THR.

To avoid a large group of people working on the set. Productions are considering stopping large numbers of extras working on scenes and implementing badges for each department, so departments to limit access to certain areas of a production facility.

The plan is to have a rapid antigen test, depending upon availability. The idea is crew members could have an “immunity passport”. However, studies suggest people have the possibility of getting reinfected with the virus.

However, some actors are refusing to go back to work. Frank Sicoli, Los Angeles-based CEO of studio operator First City told The Hollywood Reporter, says, “You can’t get the industry back on track if the actors are worried about their safety,” he explains.

Here’s an expected list of rules:

  • Gloves and masks must be worn on set. Unless you’re not an actor working on camera
  • Intimate scenes or scenes where two actors need to be close together will be edited in post-production.
  • Everything on the set will need to be cleaned and disinfected
  • Cameras, props, construction materials, and wardrobe will have to go through a multi-step cleaning process
  • Hand washing and hand sanitizing stations must be installed.
  • Crew members can not share tools

In relevant news, Tyler Perry is working on a plan to reopen Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. According to TMZ, Tyler Perry is planning on opening his 330-acre Atlanta Studio Complex but, with some new rules.

TMZ’s sources say productions filmed at his facility will have the cast and crew check-in on the first day. Tyler Perry Studios will test everyone, and those who are found negative will be allowed on to the lot, where they will live for the duration of filming.

‘Slumdog MIllionaire’ Star Irrfan Khan Dies at 53

Actor Irrfan Khan died on Wednesday.

He was 53. He was previously diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor in 2018 and underwent treatment in London. He recovered to shoot his last movie, “Angrezi Medium”. But, that movie’s release was canceled to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this week, he was admitted to the ICU in Mumbai, India, with a colon infection.

He started his acting career with a small role in the 1988 Oscar-nominated movie “Salaam Bombay.” He would gain critical acclaim for 2001’s “The Warrior”, which he won a BAFTA for his lead role.

Khan worked on several significant movies both in Bollywood and Hollywood. Some of his Hollywood movies include “Life of Pi,” “Jurassic World,” and “Inferno”.

Filmmaker Karan Johar tweeted: “Thank you for those indelible movie memories….thank you for raising the bar as an artist …thank you for enriching our cinema….we will miss you, Irrfan, but will always always be immensely grateful for your presence in our lives…..our cinema….we salute you.”

“An incredible talent … a gracious colleague, a prolific contributor to the World of Cinema, left us too soon, creating a huge vacuum,” tweeted veteran Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan.

AMC Theaters Will No Longer Play Universal Movies

After the release of the ‘Trolls World Tour,’ AMC theaters will no longer play Universal Pictures movies.

AMC Theaters fires back at Universal Pictures. The movie chan announced it would no longer play any of the studio’s films after NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell’s promised to release titles on premium and in theaters.

During the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic, movie theaters across the nation closed their doors. Universal released the “Trolls World Tour” movie on-demand on April 10.

The studio revealed Tuesday that “Trolls World Tour” made $100 million in premium Video-On-Demand rentals in three weeks in the United States, a result which made the movie profitable during a crisis.

“The results for ‘Trolls World Tour’ have exceeded our expectations and demonstrated the viability of PVOD,” Shell told the Wall Street Journal. “As soon as theaters reopen, we expect to release movies on both formats.”

Before the pandemic, studios usually waited around three months after releasing the movie in theaters to release the film on streaming services.

AMC Theaters chairman-CEO Adam Aron fired back saying Universal violated the 90-day window.

“It is disappointing to us, but Jeff’s comments as to Universal’s unilateral actions and intentions have left us with no choice,” he said. Therefore, effectively immediately, AMC will no longer play any Universal movies in any of our theaters in the United States, Europe or the Middle East,” Aron said in the letter.

“This policy affects any and all Universal movies per se, goes into effect today and as our theaters reopen, and is not some hollow or ill-considered threat. Incidentally, this policy is not aimed solely at Universal out of pique or to be punitive in any way, it also extends to any movie maker who unilaterally abandons current windowing practices absent good faith negotiations between us, so that they as distributor and we as exhibitor both benefit and neither are hurt from such changes,” Aron said. “Currently, with the press comment today, Universal is the only studio contemplating a wholesale change to the status quo. Hence, this immediate communication in response.”

“Universal’s unilateral pronouncements on this issue are unpalatable to us, as has always been the case, AMC is willing to sit down with Universal to discuss different windows strategies and different economic models between your company and ours,” he said. “However, in the absence of such discussions, and an acceptable conclusion thereto, our decades of incredibly successful business activity together has sadly come to an end.”

There are several major motion pictures from Universal Studios coming soon. These include the following:

  1. Fast & Furious 9
  2. Minions: The Rise of Gru
  3. Sing 2
  4. Jurassic World: Dominion

A spokesperson responded to AMC’s decision to Varietysaying, “Our goal in releasing ‘Trolls: World Tour’ on PVOD was to deliver entertainment to people who are sheltering at home, while movie theatres and other forms of outside entertainment are unavailable. Based on the enthusiastic response to the film, we believe we made the right move.  In fact, given the choice of not releasing ‘Trolls: World Tour,’ which would not only have prevented consumers from experiencing the movie but also negatively impacted our partners and employees, the decision was clear.”

“Our desire has always been to efficiently deliver entertainment to as wide an audience as possible,” Universal said. “We absolutely believe in the theatrical experience and have made no statement to the contrary. As we stated earlier, going forward, we expect to release future films directly to theatres, as well as on PVOD when that distribution outlet makes sense. We look forward to having additional private conversations with our exhibition partners but are disappointed by this seemingly coordinated attempt from AMC and NATO to confuse our position and our actions.”

Earlier this week, Universal announced they would skip a theatrical release for “The King of Staten Island,” which is a semi-autobiographical comedy starring Pete Davidson and directed by Judd Apatow. The new movie will premiere on June 12, a week before it was scheduled to debut.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. releasing “Scoob,” is heading to streaming services next month. Disney announced “Artemis Fowl” will launch exclusively on Disney Plus in June.

AMC is already facing hard times. The movie chain may stay shut down for many more months due to the pandemic. AMC Entertainment announced plans on April 16 to raise $500 million in debt to cover its losses. The funds will be paid back in 2025, which should keep the company going until the middle of summer, AMC said. That said, Wall Street Analysts are pessimistic and believe the company is on the verge of filing for bankruptcy.

Kanye West is Officially a Billionaire

Forbes declares Kanye West is a billionaire.

Last November, the rapper appeared on stage with Y.E.E.Z.Y. Steven Smith during Fast Company’s Innovation Festival to criticize the news outlet for not recognizing him as a billionaire. The artist showed a receipt for $890 million.

“When people say it’s crass to call yourself a billionaire, I say I might legally change my name to Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West for a year until y’all understand exactly what it is…It will be on the license plate,” he stated during the interview.

In 2019, Kanye ranked No. 2 as Forbes top-earning artists in the World. The rapper earned $150 million in 2019 thanks to sales from his Y.E.E.Z.Y. line. West felt left out when the publication announced its annual World’s Billionaire list.

Forbes reveals that they finally received West’s financial records, and Y.E.E.Z.Y. remains successful with a valuation of $1.3 billion, the Kanye valuation is complex. According to the CNN, West’s Yeezy sneaker collaboration with Adidas is estimated to bring the rapper $140 million last year, properties, assets, and his G.O.O.D. record label are worth at least $90 million.

The final total of $1.3 billion, Forbes said, it took into account debts, “asset illiquidity” and the Forbe’s standards to “look at self-appraisals somewhat skeptically.”
Forbes says Jenner’s wealth came from her makeup company, Kylie Cosmetics, which she founded in 2015 with the sale of lip kits, a set of liquid lipsticks, and matching lip liner. Jenner has since expanded to a wide array of cosmetics, including blush, highlighters, concealers, and eyeshadow palettes. She also launched makeup collaborations with her sisters Khloe Kardashian and Kim Kardashian West.

‘Better Call Saul’ Actress Shares Her Story, Acting Process, and Tips

Actress Rhea Seehorn plays Kim Wexler in AMC’sBetter Call Saul‘ and gave an amazing interview with Rolling Stone about her acting career, and how she approaches acting on the ‘Breaking Bad’ spinoff.

Seehorn says acting classes at George Mason University got her interested in performing. She explains, “Thank god it wasn’t a feel-good, let’s just lie on the floor, feel how we feel about ourselves class. It was all craft. It was practical aesthetics, handbook for actors — here’s how you break down a script, this is what an objective is, this is an obstacle. I was in such heaven that I never looked back after that.”

Seehorn sought to emerge herself in acting. She says,  “I volunteered to usher at Woolly Mammoth [Theatre Company] for a year. I volunteered for stage-running crew, box office, anything to make that bridge between academic and professional, so that I could learn professional things, be around professional people, show that I was willing to put in the hours. Also, when I got out for auditions, I’m not knocking on a door of someone who’s never seen me before. They’ve seen me making the disgusting fried eggs for a play that lasted all summer.”

Seehorn says she did not get many roles in her career and struggled with acting. She says, “By then I was a 25-year-old blonde, so I would get sent in for the ingenue, but I would go at it as a character actor. I can’t just play the guy’s girlfriend. If the most interesting thing about me is my boyfriend, I’m not going to get the part, because I would add all this subtext of like, ‘No, no, no. There has to be something going on with her. Was she abused? Why is she just standing there?’ I didn’t get parts for a while because of that.” That led to Seehorn to get cast in roles that she was much more comfortable in, even if she became a type. She says, “I got typecast as something that I was very proud of, which was this very wry, sarcastic, knowing [woman].”

Seehorn makes a habit of being on set when scenes with other characters that do not include her storyline directly to learn from other actors. “It’s a very specific tone of show. For me, it sits just outside of realism and naturalism. There’s something kind of poetic about the way people shift in their speech or the way events unfold. I like that music in my ear as much as possible between my work. It’s not about me staying in character and walking around making people call me Kim; but completely removing myself from set and then going right into a scene the next morning is not as easy for me as it is for some actors. So, it’s selfish. And then I’m also just getting a free acting lesson. Jonathan and Giancarlo, when I watch their scenes, they teach me how to use the camera in a way that I didn’t come into this series understanding as much as I’m aspiring to now. Sometimes, when Kim has intimate moments, I used to turn away from the camera, because I do treat the camera as another person that’s there, and the audience is often my confidant in the scenes, because Kim can be very silent and withholding. And I’ll watch Jonathan and ask him questions. Or I’ll ask Giancarlo, ‘How do you invite the camera into the most private of moments without looking showy or without looking deliberate?'”

She has worked 20 years in the industry and she thinks she can still improve.  “When you’re 20-some years into your career, [it’s a lot] to have a role that is challenging and every season becomes more challenging. This season, I had scenes where I was like, ‘This might be the day when everybody finds out that I can’t act. The jig might be up today.’”

Scarlett Johansson Shares Amazing Acting Advice for Aspiring Actors

Scarlett Johansson gives amazing advice for aspiring actors.

Today, Scarlett Johansson is a Hollywood celebrity and superstar. She was nominated for two Oscars this year and in August 2019, she was named by Forbes as the highest-earning actress for the second year in a row.

That said, the actress said she did not always feel like a celebrity or a success. She was often the second choice in a lot of movies. In fact, she ended up taking up the role of Black Widow after actress Emily Blunt dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

“The best call you can receive is after you are rejected for something and then you get it. You appreciate it more,” Johansson told Parade in an interview given before the coronavirus pandemic. “I’ve basically made a career out of being second choice.”

Johansson appeared in Avengers since 2010 and is now scheduled to star in her own Marvel movie in November 2020.

She explains she never felt completely comfortable with acting, despite doing it since she was a child.

“I’ve never felt that I had both feet out, you know?” she said. “I never imagined having another career, but there were definitely times when I felt like I should try something else in the industry.”

Johansson talked about watching old Hollywood movies as a kid, including Judy Garland classics and Disney’s ‘The Parent Trap.’ “I disappeared into those movies and took on those characters,” she says.

During that time, her mother would take her to auditions across New York City, which never worked out. While she was cast in 1997’s ‘Home Alone 3’ and 1998’s ‘The Horse Whisperer,’ none of those projects helped her acting career.

“When people starting out ask me for advice, I always say to stay open-minded, because you never know.”

“Since a very young age, I’ve been rejected constantly,” she says. “When people starting out ask me for advice, I always say to stay open-minded, because you never know.”

By the early 2000s, she says she started taking acting more seriously and was determined to land more prominent roles but not 100% focused on becoming famous.  “I was too never caught up in being an actress or being a teenager,” she says. “I had a social life and friends and made movies, and those two things never competed with each other.” It helped that her mom, who accompanied her to sets, kept her grounded: “She was my mom first, and that makes a difference.”

Johansson’s breakout movie was ‘Lost in Translation’ and ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring,’ which led to Golden Globe nominations. “I never imagined having another career, but there were times when I felt like I should try something else in the industry.”

She explains that if her daughter wanted to act, she would be okay with it.

Coronavirus: Angelina Joliee Shares Parenting Advice: “I am thinking of you”

Angelina Jolie shared parenting advice during the Coronavirus.

Amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, millions of kids are out of schools due to school closures, and millions of adults are out of a job due to furloughs, layoffs, and shelter-in-place orders. All of which puts a lot of pressure of families.

Angelina Jole wrote a letter in TIME’s Parents newsletter to let parents and guardians know they are not alone.

“I am thinking of you,” wrote the mother-of-six. “I am imagining how hard each of you is trying to get through your days. How much you want to lead your loved ones through this. How you worry. How you plan. How you smile for them, when inside you feel at times you are breaking.”

Jolie says, “In fact, I never thought I could be anyone’s mom. I remember the decision to become a parent. It wasn’t hard to love. It wasn’t hard to dedicate myself to someone and something greater than my life. What was hard was knowing that from now on I needed to be the one to make sure everything was okay. To manage it and make it work. From food to school to medical. Whatever would come. And to be patient.”

“I realized I stopped my constant daydreaming, instead of staying always ready for any break into what I was doing or thinking to answer a need. It was a new skill to acquire,” wrote Jolie. “So now, in the midst of this pandemic, I think of all the mothers and fathers with children at home. All hoping they can do everything right, answer all needs, and stay calm and positive.”

Jolie continued, “One thing that has helped me is to know that’s impossible. It is a lovely thing to discover that your children don’t want you perfect. They just want you honest. And doing your best. In fact, the more room they have to be great where you are weak, the stronger they may become. They love you. They want to help you. So in the end, it’s the team you build. And in a way, they are raising you up too. You grow together.”

Last month, Jolie donated $1 million to the nonprofit No Kid Hungry to help support children from low-income families during the Coronavirus school closures.

“As of this week, over a billion children are out of school worldwide because of closures linked to coronavirus,” said Jolie at the time. “Many children depend on the care and nutrition they receive during school hours, including nearly 22 million children in America who rely on food support. No Kid Hungry is making resolute efforts to reach as many of those children as possible.”

‘Joker’ Study Reveals the Impact of the Movie on Mental Health

Joker‘ movie increased levels of prejudice towards people with mental illness, researchers say.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), which is a peer-reviewed medical journal, asserts the movie was “associated with higher levels of prejudice toward” people with mental illness.

According to the study, researchers investigated if people watching the ‘Joker’ movie had an impact on how people view others with mental illness. In the study, 84 participants complete a

“28-item Prejudice Toward People With Mental Illness scale” before and after watching Joker.

“Joker was associated with higher levels of prejudice toward those with mental illness,” the study found. “Beyond prejudice, associating mental illness with violence may erode support for policies that we know to be beneficial for those with mental illness (e.g., integration into communities). Additionally, Joker may exacerbate self-stigma for those with a mental illness, leading to delays in help-seeking.”

Related: President Trump Held a ‘Joker’ Screening at the White House and Liked It (Report)

“In The Dark Knight, Joker asks, ‘Why so serious?’ One might level that question at us, arguing that Joker is nothing to be concerned with,” researchers wrote. “However, what this view ignores is the profound consequences prejudice has on those with a mental illness.”

In the movie, Joaquin Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck, who goes on a violent rampage as his mental health breakdown. The film does not say what doctors diagnosed Joker with, but the movie shows him visiting a mental health hospital, and the medication he needs is taken away due to cuts in social services.

The film had a whirlwind of controversy due to the realism of violence in the movie. But, it broke records. ‘Joker’ was the first film to make more than $1 billion at the box office and had the highest opening weekend ever for a movie debuting in October. Joaquin Phoenix would also go on and win Best Actor at the Academy Awards.

Director Todd Phillips defended the movie. He told NPR’s Terry Gross he wanted to explore the impact of cutting social services for mental health.

“We thought it was important to shine a light on the system,” he said earlier this year. “I think, like a lot of people, the system’s broken, and why not use a film to make a comment on that?”

He said the movie received a lot of negative criticism but also positive feedback.

“I can’t tell you the amount of emails or messages I got on my Instagram of people talking about what a wonderful depiction of mental illness it is,” he explained. “You know, the thing that seemed to resonate most with people is when Arthur writes in his notebook, ‘The worst part about having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don’t.'”

Phillips continued, “And that really spoke to people that have it. Because you’re suffering, but you’re not wearing a cast. You’re suffering, but you’re not in a wheelchair. So people think, what’s wrong with you? You’re fine. And I think that really connected and resonated with people in a meaningful way. So that kind of thing makes it worth it. Not that that erases everything else. But, you know, it connected with the people that it had to connect with.”
