Morton Contemporary Gallery, one of Philadelphia’s most exciting contemporary art galleries, is looking for a skilled and experienced Gallery Director to help oversee showroom sales, client relations, commercial and private art consultancy business, strategic partnership and licensing of art products, print and digital marketing, gallery exhibitions, sponsorships, and business management. We sell fine art paintings, photography, and sculpture. The Director must have 5 years luxury sales experience minimally, prior art gallery experience, and ideally a degree in art history, arts management, design, and/or studio art, while also being very knowledgeable about the current global contemporary art market. Director will travel to art fairs with owner, help to curate exhibitions, design and implement all digital marketing and manage artistic collections. Position requires an extremely organized, driven, and sophisticated individual who is a team player, and looking to grow within a fast paced, exciting young company.

Nuts and Bolts of position: 

SALES: Secure sales on the gallery floor, online, and through social media. 

-MARKETING: Manage all social media and website, including weekly blogs and newsletters.  The main strategy with our social media is to educate clients – not just about what the gallery sells, but on art buying, global contemporary art market trends, secondary art market advice, art fair news, hot trends in the artworld, and more.

-ART CONSULTANCY: The Director will recruit, liaison and work directly with large commercial residential firms, hotels, restaurants, designers, hospitals and other commercial business entities to secure large commercial contract deals for the gallery. 

-EXHIBITIONS AND ARTIST TALKS: coordinate monthly exhibitions and artist talks within our second location – THE LOFT @ MORTON CONTEMPORARY. Additionally, organize salon style evenings twice a month, in addition to assisting with the execution of solo and group shows. 

-BUSINESS OPERATIONS: Help to implement, update, and maintain business operations, including invoicing, monitoring expenses, and staff calendar. 

-CURATE: Curate new collections, discover new artists, and document trends in the artworld. Assist in identifying and securing artists whose work is priced between $30K-$100K, and work closely with high-send client to help curate their personal collections. 

-LOCAL BUSINESSES: Liaison with local Philadelphia businesses, local community organizations, and upscale residential properties to help build new relationships and strategic partnerships.

  • Tailoring each creative/collatoral need is being tailored to each city. There may be things coming from different teams building the different high-rises. Would likely be getting imagery from the city teams. Likely assets they already have but some unique depending on how it’ll go.
  • Creative development, comps, layout, owner approval, making sure all deliverables cohesive for each property, once printer is sending proofs, will provide proof approval, then installers and cities put them up.
  • Possibly jump in on one-off projects because they have 19 properties/projects.
  • Most work will be conceptual but within brand guidelines. Each city’s property will have their own spin on those as well.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality or related Management field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of previous experience in Hospitality Operations with multi-site responsibilities as a Regional

Job Description

The role of the Art Director is to concept and execute creative campaigns that blend storytelling and visual innovation. The art director will implement creative strategy, conceptualize, and execute brand assets, and help maintain a consistent visual brand statement across all aspects of the business, including D2C, wholesale and licensing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Maintain overall brand image by keeping all design and photo output consistent over time and updating the brand book and style guide.

· Art direct and oversee all brand photography including production on editorial shoots, on-model and still life shoots, social content shoots, flat lays, and event photography. Concept photoshoots as well as produce all aspects of shoots including booking talent, casting models, creating shot plan & coordinating retouching.

· Create seasonal style guides to match back to current collection. Look & feel includes editorial photography campaign, social photoshoots, and design of emails, web banners & social content.

· Design all marketing materials including brand decks, presentations, look books, evites, invites, packaging, hangtags/labels and Instagram story templates. 

· Explore and utilize innovative ways of creating and applying graphics, imagery, and visual communication technologies within emerging industry trends to maintain brand relevancy.

· Collaborate and support ecommerce licensee by giving art direction for website and emails, providing them with photo content and design assets to ensure style imagery aligns with final production across all platforms.

· Collaborate with and support Director of Ecommerce and Marketing Team to ideate, design, and execute digital marketing materials including imagery for emails, ads, and social posts. 

· Manage and facilitate projects for in-house photographer. 

· Works closely with the Design Team to build out season direction both physically and digitally.

QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:

As an Associate Producer, you will serve on the production team that supports our large automotive and tech clients. As a small business, each person at ODCo plays a handful of roles. This marvelous human will create and support the development of concepts, structure, and functionality of design artwork for branding, web, and print projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS

  • Development of creative concepts, direction, and approaches for a variety of projects, parameters, and industries across brand, digital, print, and environmental design
  • Ensure a high standard of visual execution across all projects
  • Work with team members and clients to deliver creative execution that is on brief and on brand
  • Carefully interpret creative guidelines to produce accurate design/art direction deliverables
  • Supervise and coordinate freelance illustrators, photographers, designers, and videographers
  • Ensure project compliance with brand standards, project scope, objectives, and requirements
  • Review and confirm accuracy and quality of printer proofs and digital prototypes
  • Conduct press checks and other on-site vendor quality control supervision
  • Manage multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions
  • Prepare final press-ready files based on supplied specifications for a variety of brand, print, and digital applications
  • Ensure projects are completed with high quality and on schedule
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise with the creative team, vendor, and/or partner
  • Ensure accessibility implementation and quality control
  • Identify operational opportunities and recommend work process improvements
  • Maintain a positive outlook and a penchant for problem solving

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience with creative teams in an agency or in-house
  • Designing for brand development, email and web design, direct mail, social media, and infographics
  • Technical skills for long-form publication design, A/B testing, and variable data
  • Experience with financial, non-profit, environmental protection, education, community service, or mission-driven organizations is a plus
  • Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), working knowledge of After Effects, Canva, and Sketch (or Figma)
  • Familiarity working with a small team
