ABC News is seeking an Executive Producer for “Nightline.”
ABC News is responsible for a broad portfolio of news and documentary programming across linear and digital platforms within Disney General Entertainment, including the ABC Television Network, Hulu, ABC News Live, and ABC audio and satellite service NewsOne. Programs produced by ABC News include “World News Tonight with David Muir,” “Nightline,” “Good Morning America,” “GMA 3” “20/20,” “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” “Start Here”, “24 Hours: Assualt on the Capitol”, “The Housewife and the Hustler” and a number of multi-part documentary and timely news specials. An award-winning team provides the latest information and analysis of major events to bring viewers a big-picture understanding of the world.
The Executive Producer of Nightline will oversee all editorial and managerial aspects of the nightly program, while also developing a strategy for the future of the brand in the Walt Disney Company’s multi-platform environment, with an emphasis on the streaming future.
Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years’ experience in in-depth reporting of major news stories and possess a journalistic mastery of crime, justice and human interest reporting. The candidate needs to have a deep understanding of news and be able to pivot to breaking news specials when required, managing the news division’s reporting resources, a full staff, and production assets for quick-turnarounds on a moment’s notice.
The candidate must innovate visually and narratively in a multi-platform ecosystem with an eye toward finding a story palette that will appeal to a broad-based, multi-cultural viewership and deliver satisfying journalism that continues to surprise, inform and inspire. Additionally, the EP must be committed to building a diverse staff that can deliver high-impact programming to a broad-based audience.
Exceptional leadership skills are required. This leader will champion an innovative, highly collaborative, diverse culture that promotes idea generation, open communication, respect for others, and excellence. The EP of Nightline must seamlessly integrate disparate parts of the division into the program’s work flow: sales, standards, legal, promotion, finance and HR. The candidate must also be fluent in budgeting and production costs that can be tailored to the broadcast’s revenue structure and will need to execute strategies to meet established goals/objectives to drive ratings, audience and revenue. The EP must also be fluent in talent management, juggling the needs of anchors, correspondents and support teams, knitting together the various constituencies within the staff and around the news division. Lastly, this leader must execute all policies/objectives while maintaining the highest level of ethics and standards.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in long form storytelling
- Proven ability to build, manage and lead a team; Experience managing creative teams in a high-pressure environment
- Strong editorial judgment
- Executive-level presentation and communication skills
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
- A team-first, no-drama working style, with a focus on results
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills which will enable this leader to interact with a range of personalities and styles and establish effective relationships at all levels of the organization; must have a problem-solving approach, be highly self-motivated, well-organized and have a strong work ethic
Required Education
- BA or BS from a 4 year accredited college or university or equivalent experience
