Actors Nearly Shot After an Audition Goes Wrong

0

Armed police storm home after reports of a man getting tortured.

Armed police surrounded a London home after reports of a man begging for his life. Ultimately, it ended up being two actors who had been rehearsing an emotional scene for a West End audition.

Aspiring actor Simon Gordon was preparing for a role with fellow actor and roommate Joel Harper-Jackson at their home in south-east London when they heard a knock on the door.

In a post on Facebook, Gordon said he found “15 men with automatic assault rifles surrounding our house, plus a few casual snipers in the garden. Police had reports that there was a firearm at this address and that someone was pleading for their life. Turns out the neighbours overheard Joel Harper-Jackson and I rehearsing a scene for an audition tomorrow.” Gordon was preparing for an audition for the character Gerry Goffin, in the upcoming West End musical Beautiful at the Aldwych theatere, which Harper-Jackson is starring in. “If I don’t get the job now at least we’ll have a story for the Graham Norton couch eh?” he wrote. He later joked on Twitter that he would have found it difficult to explain to his talent agent if he had been arrested and missed the audition.

Gordon explained that the police were initially very hostile until they realized the mistake.“We got a really aggressive knock at the door,” he told the Evening Standard. “Joel opened it and there were five policemen with shields and massive guns. They were aggressive to begin with. My heart was racing. We felt really guilty for some reason – even though we knew we hadn’t done anything.”

Gordon later elaborated on the scene. He was evidently preparing for the role of the King’s songwriter husband. “It is quite a heated scene where the character breaks down,” he said. “It’s all in American accents. Our window must have been open. I can see how that can be misconstrued.”

A police spokesman said: “We called at 11.25pm following reports of a firearms incident. Armed officers attended. It transpired that there was no offence and no arrests were made. No firearm was found.”

The Easiest Way To Memorize Lines as An Actor

0

Here is the best and easiest way to memorize lines as an actor.

The easiest way to learn lines for a movie or TV show is to record all the lines and play them back and sa them along with the recording. You can record with your computer, phone, or even a recorder. However, it is very important to hear the cue (the line before yours) so you know when to say your line. Play it over and over and say your lines along with the recording. Then when you know it better, pause the recording after the cue line and say try to say your line. Listen to that line and see if you memorized it right and then try again.

Another way people learn lines including reading the script and covering your lines up. Here’s how you can do it. Read the cue line and then try to say your line while it is covered up. This works even better when you are working with a partner. Another unique way to memorize your lines include looking at the cue line and then trying to type your lines without looking at the script.

At the end of the day, Everyone memorizes differently so it is good to try different techniques to see what works best.

But, the best thing you can do before you head on set is to do a speed through with the other actors. Sit or stand together and go through the lines as quickly as possible. Have someone mark down the lines you miss and read them over and over before you go on.

Latest: Another Major Movie Studio is Headed to Atlanta

Another Major Atlanta Film Studio is Headed to Atlanta

Georgia is quickly becoming the filmmaking capital of the world. With more and more movies and TV shows filming in the Atlanta area. Studios are filling up quicker and quicker making it harder for producers to find studio space for their next project. This is a pretty good problem for Georgia but, it is an extremely annoying one for movie and network studios.

Luckily, entrepreneurs are stepping up to fix the issue. According to Atlanta Business Journal, the Atlanta-based film and TV studio Mailing Avenue Stageworks is currently expanding.

From the bizjournals.com:

Stageworks’ partners Paul Raulet, John Raulet and Tyler Edgarton, who currently operate a small studio in Grant Park, are under contract to purchase a 119,200-square-foot warehouse, currently a Kawasaki distribution center, in mid-September.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but comparable buildings in the Fulton Industrial area are selling for between $16 and $24 a square foot, according to market data. That means they could pay between $1.9 million and $2.9 million.

The new studio is nearly 7 acres in size and building will start in early 2015. The new studio will replace Kawasaki’s previous distribution plant, which was previously located in this part of Atlanta.

Kawasaki is scheduled to be completely moved out in three weeks, at which point Stageworks will begin converting the space into a studio. John Ralut said they are already showing the property to film and television projects, and he hopes to secure a tenant by October.

“We’re a little off in the timing,” he said. “If we were coming in in June or January we’d probably be able to jump in with a show right away, but it’s gotten so busy in Atlanta that cycle is starting to go away and people show up at all times of the year.”

This is great news for the ever expanding Georgia film industry, which plans to to double the number of productions by 2017 and increase their already 100,000 people employed by the Georgia Film industry.

Tom Hardy Calls Out The Reporter That Brought Up His Gay Past

Tom Hardy responds to that awkward sexuality question.

Earlier this week, Tom Hardy dismissed a reporter who brought up the subject of Tom Hardy’s sexuality to a TIFF press conference. Tom Hardy, who was at the time promoting his new thriller Legend, was upset to see the subject switch so quickly from the content of his movie to Hollywood’s affixation with sexuality. The journalist attempted to bring up an old interview where Tom Hardy alluded to sleeping with men in order to increase in acting skills. Tom Hardy called this question irrelevant, and dismissed the reporter.

Now that a few days have passed, Tom hardy spoke with EW about why he shut down the reporter’s off-topic question. Hardy expressed that the question was an invasion of his privacy during the press conference and should have never been asked.

“That really, really annoyed me. It was just the inelegance of being asked in a room full of people. Now I’m happy to have a conversation, a discussion, at a reasonable time about anything. I’m confident in my own sexuality, and I’m also confident in my own being and talking about any issue you want to talk about it. But there is a time and a place for that.”

That is a pretty reasonable request for such a heavy loaded question.

5 Ways You Can Become a Better Actor without Acting Classes

0

5 Easy Ways Actors Can Easily Become Working Actors

Every actor should act like a professional. The term to fake it before you make it is crucial in Hollywood, and actors should treat every position from background acting to a lead role like a professional actor.

For instance, Jennifer Lawrence was never involved with theater and did not take acting classes, stating, “I’ve always studied people and been fascinated by their reactions and feelings. And I think that’s the best acting class you can take – watching real people, listening to them and studying them.”

But, here is a 5 ways to become a better actor without acting classes.

Here are 5 ways a professional actor treats acting.

1. A professional actor is constantly looking for their next audition.

2. A professional actor is constantly striving to improve their acting ability.

3. Actors know how to act and how to take direction from the director, casting director or producer.

4. A professional actor is constantly building their fan base on social media via YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Vine.

An unprofessional actor is an actor that sits and waits for the agent to find them work and then complains that they are not landing an auditions. An unprofessional actor does not have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube or Vine. In fact, according to major casting directors, the actors with hundreds of social media followers are more likely to book a role than a talented actor without a social media following. An unprofessional actor is an actor that does not work on their acting skills and expects to land auditions without networking with other industry professionals.

Jennifer Lawrence

A professional actor is an actor that listens to any acting advice from experienced and working actors, legitimate talent agents, and casting directors. A professional actor informs their agent of any auditions that they feel would be perfect for their career, so their agent can work on getting that actor an audition. A professional actor is an actor that keeps their agent informed about their availability at all times. You do not want to have your agent working on your next major audition to star alongside Jennifer Lawrence and you are on vacation.

However, it is important that actor’s only contact their agent for legitimate reasons. Think of your agent as your foot into the industry but not your therapist, psychologist, mother, father, or personal psychic. If you hear of an audition for a part that you could play, then it’s a good idea to call your agent. However, if you are locked up in prison for robbery, it may not be a good idea to call your talent agent for legal advice.
