Coronavirus: HBO Will Stay Pay Actors During the Hollywood Shutdown

HBO will continue to pay actors despite the Coronavirus Hollywood shut down.

As we previously reported, Netflix has started paying cast members who were working on productions affected by the Coronavirus pandemic; Despite, unforeseeable circumstances and Hollywood shutdown.

Netflix decided to pay actors minimum guarantees for actors who were put on hold before they were set to go into production. But, Netflix’s deal with actors is reportedly very generous, and very few studios are willing to pay actors when they are not working.

According to Deadline, HBO will follow in Netflix’s’s footsteps and pay actors during the Coronavirus related Hollywood shutdown. The terms of the compensation have not been revealed. However, Deadline reports there is a pushback between SAG-AFTRA and studio labor executives. “
I hear studios” labor executives have been arguing that the delayed production start is de facto a hiatus and actors should not be paid, some also invoking the time limit they have on series regulars paid over $20,000 an episode. “

Deadline adds, “I hear that SAG-AFTRA does not agree with the hiatus argument and the union has been actively involved in the situation, seeking remedies for the union’s members and threatening to file grievances if the issue is not resolved.”

In a statement by a SAG-AFTRA spokesperson to Deadline, “We are in ongoing discussions with the industry about working through the consequences of the production shutdown, but are not going to comment about the details of those discussions while they are still happening.”

HBO has various shows set to start production, including ”Euphoria”, which we recently shared casting calls for lead roles, ”Succession”, ”Barry” and ”Showtime.

Coronavirus Casting Scam Hits the TV and Movie Industry

A Coronavirus casting scam has been looking for actors to audition for videos and share their passport information for a fake fashion show in Paris.

“We find it appalling that someone would use this global crisis to take advantage of our members and those who aspire to work under our contracts,” SAG-AFTRA said Tuesday. “It is even more troubling that someone would do so in order to obtain personally identifiable information and nude videos that can be used for nefarious and salacious purposes.”

The SAG-AFTRA told its members they “should always exercise caution when submitting personally identifiable information and audition tapes,” noting that “no SAG-AFTRA franchised agent is authorized to solicit materials of a sexual nature from any current or future member; it is a violation of SAG-AFTRA agency regulations to do so.

“To the best of our knowledge, no union franchised agent is associated with this nefarious scheme, but we urge members to report any concerns they may have about their agents as it relates to this, or any other, issue…It is even more critical now, when individuals with ill intent may seek to take advantage of the current production shutdown and everyone’s desire to return to work.”

Millie Bobby Brown Reveals How She Learned Her American Accent

Millie Bobby Brown revealed she learned her American accent by watching ‘Hannah Montana’.

The ‘Stranger Things’ actress says the Miley Cyrus character helped her have the perfect American accent.

During an Instagram live video, Millie confessed the “only way” she was able to improve her American accent was “by watching Hannah Montana” when she was younger. She also revealed she is “obsessed” with the series.

Miley Cyrus, who starred in the series between 2006 and 2011, replied, “I am surprised you don’t have a country accent.”

Millie Bobby Brown says the 16-year-old actress does not think being famous will ever feel “normal”.

She admitted she does not think she will ever fully understand that people will recognize her wherever she goes. She said, “I don’t think it will ever be a normal thing. Some days I go out and I make sure I look somewhat presentable and some days, I look like an absolute hot mess.”

Millie Bobby Brown previously responded that she tries to “block out” negativity in her life. “I block out all negativity in my life, so anyone or anything that’s getting in the way of me being happy will no longer be in my life. And I think that toxic people – people that don’t just genuinely make you happy – you need to block out and, obviously, negativity on social media is not healthy … You need to put yourself in a happy space. Make sure that you love yourself and that you’re doing things that are ultimately going to make you happy. Once you do that first, then you will find your self-confidence and self-love throughout all of that journey.”

Netflix Cancels ‘V-Wars’ and ‘October Faction’

Netflix cancels two brand-new series after only one season.

If you thoroughly enjoyed the recently-released Netflix original series ‘V-Wars’ or ‘October Faction,’ then I have bad news for you. Both of those series have been canceled, according to Variety. Neither of those shows was on the streaming service for more than four months.

‘V-Wars’ first debuted in early December and is based on the IDW comic series of the same name. The Netflix original series follows Dr. Luther Swann and his friend Michael Fayne, as they handle the deadly outbreak, which turns people into vampires. As the outbreak spreads, a war starts between humans and vampires. The series starred ‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Ian Somerhalder and Adrian Holmes, and the first season consisted of 10 episodes.

‘October Faction’ was canceled after debuting in January. The series centers around a couple, Fred and Deloris Allen, who spend their time hunting monsters, and they become members of a secret organization. Starring Tamara Taylor and J.C. MacKenzie, the first season consisted of 10 episodes

In relevant news, fans think a Netflix show predicted the Coronavirus outbreak. Netflix’s ‘My Secret Terrius’ is a 2018 TV series that is going viral after it mentioned Coronavirus in one of the show’s episodes.

‘The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira Shares Amazing Acting Tips

Danai Gurira shares amazing tips and things she learned from working on AMC’sThe Walking Dead‘.

Danai Gurira recently spoke to the New York Times about her experiences and what she learned working on the set of ‘The Walking Dead’. In the interview, she shares some amazing experiences, tips for actors, and how she learned how to use her character’s trademark sword.

Danai Gurira was born in Grinnell, Iowa, to Josephine and Roger Gurira, who were both from Zimbabwe. Her father was a Chemistry teacher at Grinnell College. When she was five, the family moved back to Zimbabwe, moving and living in the capital Harare. Gurira later returned to the United States, and studied social psychology at Macalester College, receiving an MFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Gurira says she learned from the character she portrayed, Michonne. She explains, “Michonne was very much someone I had to step up to, especially when she started to grow into herself and step away from her demons. When she became an item with Rick, Michonne was kind of more cool, and Rick was hot. The way she handles and assesses and comes to clarity about things — I’ve always said, she’s smarter than me, she’s faster than me, and she’s stronger than me. So I had to step into her agility and power. I always felt like I could learn from her as a woman, you know?”

“I’ve always said, she’s smarter than me, she’s faster than me, and she’s stronger than me. So I had to step into her agility and power.” – Danai Gurira on Playing Michonne

Gurira had to train for long periods of time to play an expert swordsman. She did much of her training during a play she had written, ‘The Convert’, while it was staged in Los Angeles. She reveals, “I was in the basement of the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, and I had a practice sword made of wood. So I would be talking about the language components of the play while learning how to move my body with the sword. It was on my mind all the time. I felt like I needed to become one with … not only with the character but with how she moves and how her weapon moves in her hand. I create black female characters, and I’d never imagined a woman like this. So I wanted to give her my all, to do her justice. I would practice with the sword during every break, and I would constantly go back to the trainer to learn more. It was never, ‘Oh, I’m great at this now.’ It was a constant learning curve.”

Cardi B Plans To Start a GoFundMe for Netflix’s ‘Tiger King’ Star Joe Exotic

0

Cardi B has joined many of her fans who are binge-watching Netflix’s hit new documentary ‘Tiger King’.

The documentary centers around the feud between big cat enthusiast Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin. Cardi B shard her reactions with fans on Twitter as she watched the series and after a few episodes Cardi declared her support for Joe Exotic.

Currently, the Tiger King is serving a 22-year prison sentence on two counts of murder-for-hire for planning to have Baskin killed as well as over a dozen wildlife-related charges. Cardi believes Exotic was not treated fairly, tweeting, “They did Joe so dirty over and over again.

She also plans on starting a GoFundMe account for Joe Exotic. Cardi pushed her support for Joe further in retweeting a fan’s meme in response to her tweet calling Baskin a “slick b*tch.” With the retweet, she appeared to agree with a belief shared by some on the show that Baskin not only killed her late husband but fed him to the tigers she keeps her Florida sanctuary.

In related news, Cardi B believes celebrities are getting paid to say they have the Coronavirus. The rapper took to Instagram Live on Saturday night, where she shared her own conspiracy theory about the Coronavirus outbreak. Several celebrities have revealed they have COVID-19 including Tom Hanks, Idris Elba, Andy Cohen, and Kevin Durant. But, not everyone has displayed symptoms, which has Cardi B wondering.

“Let’s say if I have the coronavirus right now. How am I supposed to know I got it because sometimes I be like, ‘If y’all have a cough, you have it,’” she said. “But then I be seeing these basketball players say like, ‘Yeah, I have the coronavirus, but I don’t got no symptoms.’ So how the fuck am I supposed to know when I’m supposed to get tested for it? Y’all ni**as is playing with me. That’s my problem right there.”

Fans Think This Netflix Show Predicted the ‘Coronavirus’ Outbreak

Netflix’s ‘My Secret Terrius’ is a 2018 TV series that is going viral after it mentioned Coronavirus in one of the show’s episodes.

People who were self-distancing and watching the series on Netflix noticed the virus come up in the show’s plot. The scene happens in Season 1 Episode 10  at 53 minutes in and you can watch the full scene in the video below.

The episode’s description reads: “A secret service agent who detaches himself from the world after a failed operation tries to unravel the mystery behind a neighbor’s death.” Only one season is out so far and it has 16 episodes, each one hour long. The episode in question is Episode 10.

In the scene, one character warns another not to leave her home. Then, we see a doctor and another character talking about coronaviruses, mentioning that MERS had a fatality rate of 20%. The doctor then says, “Like I said, this is a mutant virus. Someone tweaked it to increase the mortality rate to almost 90 percent… What’s more serious is that the coronavirus has an incubation … of two to 14 days. This virus was manufactured to attack the lungs directly within just five minutes of being exposed… There’s no cure or vaccine available at the moment. They’re hard to develop.”

It is important to note that this show is just fiction. There is no reason to believe COVID-19 was made to cause chaos and kill people worldwide. The mortality rate is lower than dramatized in ‘My Secret Terrius’. That said, the similarities are enough to get people buzzing.

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, which include SARS and MERS. COVID-19 is dangerous enough to have people self-isolate and only travel for essential reasons.

If you’re in the United States and you try to watch the series, you can not. It is currently not available in the U.S. However, you can still watch the viral scene everyone is talking about.

WarnerMedia Launches $100 Million Fund for Laid Off Crew Workers

Warnermedia is pledging a $100 million in relief to those workers affected by the Coronavirus related Hollywood shutdown.

WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey made the announcement on Friday via an internal memo. Stankey explains, “We have paused many productions for the health and safety of employees, cast, crew and community. We are stepping up with a commitment of more than $100 million to assist team members of those productions during this time.”

Stankey said that the upcoming launch of HBO Max will not be impacted by the Hollywood Shutdown and is still on track to debut in May. “Our tech teams have been operating under very unique circumstances and have adapted quickly to a new way of working,” Stankey wrote. “And the marketing team has had to recast plans to reach potential subscribers in innovative ways.”

Stankey did point out that their advertising business is taking a financial hit due to the lack of NCAA March Madness on their Turner networks, which was supposed to start last week. Last year’s tournament alone allowed for the company to generate $900 million in advertising revenue to Turner and CBS.

“Advertising will face headwinds in no small part due to the cancellation of NCAA March Madness and the suspension of the NBA season,” he said. “As a result, our ad sales teams have been collaborating with Xandr and our clients to develop innovative solutions that provide new value to brands across our portfolio, including our linear networks where we’ve seen substantial increases in ratings as more people are working from and staying at home.”

That said, HBO is seeing a massive rise in streaming numbers while CNN’s ratings have risen more than 167% since March 9th.

In related news, Netflix created a $100 million Coronavirus relief fund.

As the Coronavirus spreads throughout the world, Netflix’s fund will help members of the creative community are unemployed and have no way to make money during the COVID-19 outbreak. Netflix says the majority of the fund will go toward supporting unemployed crew members who were laid-off by the outbreak.

“The COVID-19 crisis is devastating for many industries, including the creative community. Almost all television and film production has now ceased globally — leaving hundreds of thousands of crew and cast without jobs,” Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement. “These include electricians, carpenters and drivers, many of whom are paid hourly wages and work on a project-to-project basis. This community has supported Netflix through the good times, and we want to help them through these hard times, especially while governments are still figuring out what economic support they will provide.”

Netflix’s ‘Messiah’ Canceled After One Season

0

Netflix’sMessiah’ canceled after a single season.

On Thursday, Netflix confirmed the cancellation.

“It’s a very sad day today,” wrote actor Wil Traval, who played Will Mathers on the drama series, wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday. “I have just received news from Netflix that there will be no season 2 of #messiah I wanted to say to all the fans thank you for your support and love. I wish things were different.”

The Wrap reports that one of the factors that went into the decision to cancel the show was the concern it could not be produced during the Coronavirus pandemic, due to the large international cast and filming overseas.

The 10-episode drama series starred Mehdi Dehbi as Al-Massih, a mysterious man who believe him to be the second coming. Michelle Monaghan starred opposite as Eva Geller, a CIA officer focused on proving Al-Massih is a con-man.

The first season ended in a cliffhanger so we will never know what will happen next.

The show had its fair share of controversy. In December 2019, it was announced in a press conference that The Royal Film Commission of Jordan requested Netflix to refrain streaming Messiah in the country due to the provocative subject matter and controversial religious content covered in the series.

In relevant news, in a recent report on actor’s compensation amid a Coronavirus outbreak, Deadline broke the news as to when Hollywood filmmakers plan on starting back production. At this time, many studios are evaluating filming for TV shows, and movies will start back this July 2020.
