Amazon is Hiring 100,000 People Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

Date:

Amazon to hire 100,000 people amid Coronavirus outbreak.

Amazon said on Monday the company would hire 100,000 warehouse and delivery workers in the United States to handle a surge in online orders, as many Americans have turned to the Internet to fulfill their needs during the coronavirus outbreak.

As shoppers, clear stores out of fears of a quarantine, food shortage, and lack of supplies, retailers are racing to keep food and cleaning items in stock.

“We want those people to know we welcome them on our teams until things return to normal and their past employer is able to bring them back,” Amazon said in a blog post here.

Amazon said it would add $2 to its minimum $15 per hour to US workers’ wages through April. The extra pay for hourly employees is expected to cost more than $350 million, Amazon said.

It is not clear if delivery operations will be impacted due to government restrictions.  President Donald Trump advised limiting social interactions and gatherings to 10 people or less. The number of municipalities calling for people to engage in social distancing due to the coronavirus pandemic is rising. On Tuesday, health officials have issued an important message for all Americans to limit social interactions to help healthcare systems prevent a rise of patients. As of Tuesday, 87 Americans have died with 4,490 infections, an increase of 1,000 confirmed infections from Sunday.

In related news, Amazon is now hiring people to work from home.
