Hollywood Shutdown: Talent Agencies Are Now Laying Off Agents

Hollywood shutdown is causing talent agencies to lay off agents

As the Coronavirus outbreak continues to spread across the country and Wall Street Analysts declare America’s economy in a recession, talent agencies are now laying off their workforce, including their top agents.

Variety reports, Paradigm Talent Agency has started laying off top agents including those in “music and motion picture and TV Literature.” Over 100 agency staffers were let go on Friday, including the reps for Black Keys, Father John Misty, and the 1975 band.

“The COVID-19 crisis has brought much of the entertainment industry to a virtual standstill, and Paradigm, like many companies, has had to take immediate steps to ensure continuity of our operations. Last week, we made the extraordinarily difficult decision to temporarily lay off many colleagues and to enact salary cuts across the company,” a spokesperson for Paradigm told Variety.

“It is our hope and plans to bring these colleagues back as quickly as possible, and today, we have already begun to do so. While it is impossible to know the depth and duration of this crisis, we remain proud of the determination and resilience of our Paradigm team to weather the storm and do our job representing artists,” the spokesperson added.

Paradigm Talent Agency is not the only agency that affected the Coronavirus related Hollywood Shutdown. Variety reported United Talent Agency is released a company-wide pay cut to avoid laying off most of its staff. As the entertainment industry shuts down, agencies are vulnerable as their revenue is based on commission for the work they generate from their clients.

In relevant news, Georgia film studios are shutting down, forcing studio executives to shut down and walk away. Georgia’s once-bustling film industry is now a “ghost town” as production companies shut down to quarantine themselves during the Coronavirus. Lee Thomas, Georgia Department of Economic Development’s deputy commissioner for film, music, and television, told Bisnow no productions have canceled. But there is no word as to how long the hiatus will last.

U.S. Unemployment Claims Hit 3.2 Million As Entertainment Industry is Hardest Hit Sectors

On Thursday, the United States Department of Labor reports, unemployment claims in the United States hit a record-breaking 3.28 million.

The previous record of weekly jobless claims took place on October 1982 with 695,000, and economists expect the unemployment numbers to increase in the next few weeks.

Early trading on Thursday, climbed 2% following the Senate passing a $2 trillion stimulus bill late Wednesday aimed at helping the U.S. economy.

The historic unemployment numbers reported on Thursday for the week ended March 21, as entire industries have shut down, were 200% higher than what analysts predicted, according to CNBC. A Goldman Sachs report predicted 2.25 million unemployment claims.

One of the hardest-hit sectors hit by the unemployment industry is the Entertainment industry, according to the Labor Department. Nearly every Hollywood production shut down, theme parks, concerts, and movie theaters have shut down across America, leaving hundreds of thousands of people out of work.

“Investors’ nightmares have unfortunately become a reality in the U.S. with the latest unemployment claims,” said John Westwood, group managing director at Blacktower Financial Management Group, The Guardian reports. “The challenge for the markets now is that there is still no end in sight, as the U.S. is still new into its COVID-19 problem.” Donald Trump said Tuesday he wanted “the country opened up” by Easter (April 12) to stave off further economic damage. Still, experts said that is unlikely to happen and warned that it would have catastrophic effects on the spread of the virus. “The lack of trust in the president’s comments and the latest data means that the markets are now more uncertain than ever before,” Westwood said.

The Labor Department initially reported jobless claims from two weeks ago increased 30% to 281,000 for the week of March 14th. Fortune reports, 6 million people will lose their jobs by the end of March 2020, but that number could rise even higher.

Ambrose Crofton, a market analyst at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, says the U.S. economy has hit a recession.  “The US economy has entered a recession. Initial claims – a measure of the number of new filings to receive unemployment benefits– rose to 3.283 million for the week ending 21 March. The speed and magnitude of the move higher highlight how US businesses have had to let staff go in the face of the sudden coronavirus shutdown.

Policymakers have moved to try to limit the extent of this recession: the US Federal Reserve has cut its key interest rate to zero and restarted quantitative easing at an aggressive pace, and Congress agreed a $2.2 trillion bill to support businesses and consumers. Despite this support, a neutral allocation to risk may make sense, at least until jobless claims and the infection rate have peaked.”

Analysts have not understood the consequences of the Coronavirus outbreak, but based on the numbers so far, things are a lot worse than many predicted.

Netflix’s ‘Love is Blind’ Open Casting Calls

Netflix’s hit dating series ‘Love is Blind‘ is now casting.

Join Project Casting to access casting calls you can apply to right now.

If you’re looking for a new way to meet someone this year, Netflix is here for you. Love is Blind is a dating reality series. The Netflix series is produced by Kinetic Content and created by Chris Coelen. The series first premiered on Netflix on February 13, 2020, as part of a three-week event series. The series is compared to Married at First Sight, which is also produced by Kinetic Content, and The Bachelor. 10-episodes were released and a reunion special, which was released on Netflix and YouTube on March 5th.

‘Love is Blind’ is a series where singles “Date” and engage without ever actually seeing each other in person. Once they pop the question, they meet, go on a tropical getaway, move in together and -if everything goes well, get married. Casting directors are looking for people to audition to be a part of the new season of Netflix’s ‘Love is Blind’. All you’re required to do is fill out a 46-question application, which covers everything including physical appearance, education, religion, and sexuality.

There are several matchmaking questions including, “Are you open to dating someone who is divorced and/or has children,” “What are your deal breakers?” and “Where are you currently meeting potential mates?” Applicants must be 21 and over and are required to upload photos of themselves to be considered.

About ‘Love is Blind’:

On February 28, the day after the finale aired, Love Is Blind became Netflix’s number-one trending series coming just days after Netflix launched its new trending top ten lists on their application on February 24. Tricia Crimmins of Mashable reviewed the first five episodes of Love Is Blind following their original release on February 13.

Comparing it to The Bachelor, Crimmins called the series “the bizarre reality TV experiment you’ve been craving”. She says that you never know what the couples will do next, even down to the altar at the wedding, making the series “harmless, entertaining, and satisfying.” Lucy Mangan of The Guardian gave Love Is Blind a rating of 2 out of 5 stars, calling it toxic, revolting, but extremely addictive. She says that Love Is Blind is the final nail in the coffin of humanity; however, in terms of reality television, she declares that it is good because it “exploits emotional frailties, profaning the sacred, making the private and precious public and worthless and turning it into voyeuristic ratings-bait.” Notwithstanding all of this, she recommends the show as an unexpected reality television binge, similar to The Bachelor.

On March 24, 2020, Love Is Blind was renewed for a second and third season. Filming took place in Atlanta, Georgia, from October 9, 2018, and remained 38 days up until the weddings. The couples met face-to-face on October 19. The ten days in the pods were shot at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville. Then, after the newly engaged couples left the pods, filming took place at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, when all the couples went on a retreat. The relationships that made it through the retreat in Mexico move in together in an apartment complex. After the retreat, the couples headed back to Atlanta to the Spectrum on Spring apartment building, where they spent the rest of the time filming up until the weddings. The weddings took place at two event spaces called Flourish Atlanta and The Estate on November 15.

Netflix renewed Love is Blind for a second and third season on March 24, 2020.

How does the show work?

The series follows thirty men and women looking for love. For 10 days, the men and women speed date each other in different “pods” where they can talk, but not see each other. Whenever they decide, the men are given the chance to propose to the women they want to marry. After the proposal, the couples meet face to face for the first time, the engaged couples go on a couples retreat in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. During the trip, they spend time getting to know their parents and meeting the other couples involved.

Following the couples retreat, the engaged couples move to the same apartment complex in Atlanta. While at the apartments, they all meet their partners’ families and explore their partners’ living conditions. On the day of the wedding, the engaged couples have a wedding ceremony and make their final decision if they want to stay together or split up, answering the question, “Is love blind?”

Everything We Know About ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 3

It’s no surprise that the third season of Love Is Blind is already scheduled to premiere on Netflix. But, what may come as a shock to fans is that the reality dating show could be returning sooner than anticipated.

“We shot season 3 already,” Co-host Vanessa Lachey told ET in September while at the Emmy Awards with her husband and co-host, Nick Lachey.

After the second season of Married at First Sight, three couples got married: Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton, Iyanna McNeely and Jarrette Jones, and Danielle Ruhl and Nick Thompson.

The second season concluded in mid-June with a reunion special, during which contestant Kyle Abrams revealed his feelings for co-star Deepti Vempati, despite having chosen Shaina Hurley in the pods. Since then, they’ve been seen together multiple times and have continued to banter back and forth on social media, engendering fan interest in their potential love story.

There are no spoilers yet about what will happen in the new season, but based on the show’s history, there is sure to be plenty of drama and excitement as singles date, get engaged, and eventually tie the knot. In the meantime, here’s everything we know so far about Love Is Blind Season 3.

With all of this romantic success from the series, it’s no surprise that fans are eager for a third season.

In addition to Vanessa informing ET that season 3 has already been shot, show creator Chris Coelen also confirmed that filming had ended in February.

“Every season is unique. Season 3 is a very different being than either season 1 or season 2,” he shared.

Premiere Date

Season 3 of “Daredevil” will most likely premiere within the next year, according to Variety, which says it was recorded directly following season 2, which wrapped in spring 2021.

Location

According to Variety, season 3 will be shot in Dallas, Texas, which has learned that it will include couples from Chicago (as in season 2) and couples from Atlanta (as in season 1).

Season 3 will see male and female would-be daters seeking love.

In season 1, Carlton Morton announced his bisexuality after getting engaged to Diamond Jack, which resulted in their breakup. There were no openly bisexual cast members in Season 2.

The third season will see 15 men and 15 women compete for each other’s love once more. However, the show’s creator has suggested that a sexually fluid season is possible in the future.

“I love to tell stories. All kinds of people have all kinds of interesting stories. To be able to tell as many different kinds of stories as we can, I think is great and something to aspire to,” Coelen told Variety. “If there was a fluid version, everyone would have to be completely isolated from everyone else because everyone would be an option. Is that something that we could do? In its current form, I think it’s difficult because of the way that everything is structured. You wouldn’t be hanging out in the lounges with people because those people could be possible love interests for you. So certainly, I’ve thought about it, and what I will tease you with is that we want to be representative in all kinds of ways and we are figuring out ways to do that.”

What fans may see

The unexpected, of course! Nick Lachey revealed the challenges the contestants face in pods when he was interviewed by ET in February.

“They’re going through an emotional kind of washing machine,” he told ET. “They’re just getting tumbled, tumbled, tumbled, and hopefully for some — I can’t reveal too much — hopefully for some, that results in some clean laundry at the end of the day, and for others, maybe they’re still in the spin cycle… It’s a wild ride, and for Vanessa and me, we’re right there at the edge of our seats with everybody else. It’s fascinating to watch it happen.”

Love Is Blind is now available on Netflix. Season 1 and 2 of Love Is Blind are now streaming.

Coronavirus Hollywood Shutdown Estimated to End in July

When will the Coronavirus-related Hollywood shut down end?

In a recent report on actor’s compensation amid a Coronavirus outbreak, Deadline broke the news as to when Hollywood filmmakers plan on starting back production. At this time, many studios are evaluating filming for TV shows, and movies will start back this July 2020.

When will filming start again?

When can we expect Hollywood Coronavirus shutdown to blow over? Well, according to reports, it may not end until July. Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reports, “With the worst in the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. yet to come, Hollywood production may not resume before July at the earliest.”

Netflix plans to complete production on all shows that were underway during the stoppage; This includes Georgia-filmed’ Stranger Things, which just started filming their fourth season. That said, all work that can be done from home will continue.

Netflix Pays Talent

The Coronavirus pandemic has forced nearly all TV show and movie productions to indefinitely shut down. These unforeseeable circumstances have put many contracts between producers and cast members in legal limbo. But, according to Deadline, despite the pandemic, Netflix will pay their talent.

Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reports, Netflix has issued payments to cast members on productions impacted by the Hollywood shutdown.

“I hear actors on series, which were filming or about to go into production at the time everything was put on hold, are receiving their minimum guarantees,” Andreeva reports. “That’s episodic fees for the minimum number of episodes each regular cast member is guaranteed on a show each season per their contract (it varies). I hear the initial wave includes about a dozen series, which had been immediately impacted, with the list expected to grow as more shows don’t go into scheduled shoots during the pandemic.”

It is important to note, that if force major — unforeseeable circumstances that prevent someone from fulfilling a contract — is instituted, then arrangements are voided and actors not paid. Deadline reports, all actors attached to projects, will be removed. However, to keep actors on a project, studios will have to continue paying their talent minimums during the shutdown.

Netflix $100 Million Coronavirus Disaster Fund

In relevant news, Netflix created a $100 million fund to help talent affected by the Coronavirus.

As the Coronavirus spreads throughout the world, Netflix’s fund will help members of the creative community are unemployed and have no way to make money during the COVID-19 outbreak. Netflix says the majority of the fund will go toward supporting unemployed crew members who were laid-off by the epidemic.

“The COVID-19 crisis is devastating for many industries, including the creative community. Almost all television and film production have now ceased globally — leaving hundreds of thousands of crew and cast without jobs,” Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement. “These include electricians, carpenters, and drivers, many of whom are paid hourly wages and work on a project-to-project basis. This community has supported Netflix through the good times, and we want to help them through these hard times, especially while governments are still figuring out what economical support they will provide.”

Georgia Film Studios Shut Down: “Lock The Doors And Walk Away”

0

The Coronavirus has caused film studios across Georgia to shut down.

Thousands of people across Georgia depend on the film and TV industry to provide an income for themselves and their families. The lack of work due to the Hollywood shutdown could threaten people’s livelihoods.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees spoke with BisNow to discuss the impact of the Coronavirus on the film industry. The organization, which includes approximately 5,000 people who work in the film industry, says “The entire entertainment industry is shut down”.

Michael Akins, the IATSE business agent added, “There are no public events. You’re talking tens of thousands of people who make their living in this are sitting at home. They have no way to work. They don’t work for a company,” he said. “They’re essentially unemployed.”

Georgia’s once-bustling film industry is now a “ghost town” as production companies shut down to quarantine themselves during the coronavirus. Lee Thomas, Georgia Department of Economic Development’s deputy commissioner for film, music, and television told Bisnow no productions have canceled. But there is no word as to how long the hiatus will last.

“Our primary concern is for the health and safety of everyone working in Georgia’s film and television production industry,” Georgia Studio & Infrastructure Alliance President Beth Talbert said in a statement. “We’re doing our part to help contain the coronavirus. Containment is what will dictate when the industry gets back to work, not just here in Georgia, but around the world. We’re seeing all industries make near-daily adaptations to our new reality. Our expectation is that, when the time is right, the film and TV production industry will find safe ways to produce entertainment and put Georgians back to work.”

“Until then, they’re just going to lock the doors and walk away.”

“Everybody is shut down for the foreseeable future until they get positive news,” Raulet Property Partners partner John Raulet told Bisnow. “As soon as they get the green light to come back, I think it will pick up where it left off. Until then, they’re just going to lock the doors and walk away.”

In relevant entertainment news, Influencers are saying Coronavirus is hurting their business.

Millions of people are currently unemployed because of the coronavirus pandemic, including influencers. According to TMZ, social media influencers are now feeling economic damages due to coronavirus lockdown.

Abigail Ratchford, who has 9 million Instagram followers, told TMZ that her Instagram sales are slowing down due to the outbreak, which is scary, since she makes $500,000 a year from sponsored posts, endorsing products, and merchandise.

Cardi B Believes Celebrities Are Getting Paid to Say They Have the Coronavirus

Cardi B says she thinks celebrities are getting paid to say they have Coronavirus.

The rapper took to Instagram Live on Saturday night, where she shared her own conspiracy theory about the Coronavirus outbreak.

Several celebrities have revealed they have COVID-19 including Tom Hanks, Idris Elba, Andy Cohen, and Kevin Durant. But, not everyone has displayed symptoms, which has Cardi B wondering.

“Let’s say if I have the coronavirus right now. How am I supposed to know I got it because sometimes I be like, ‘If y’all have a cough, you have it,’” she said. “But then I be seeing these basketball players say like, ‘Yeah, I have the coronavirus, but I don’t got no symptoms.’ So how the fuck am I supposed to know when I’m supposed to get tested for it? Y’all ni**as is playing with me. That’s my problem right there.”

It is important to note the most common symptoms of the Coronavirus are fever, tiredness, and a dry cough. Nearly 80% of people who get the virus experience mild symptoms. For example, Idris Elba said the following after revealing his positive diagnosis, “I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus.”

Cardi B also questioned whether celebrities are getting paid to say they have the virus. “I’m starting to feel like y’all ni**as is paying ni**as to say that they got it,” added Cardi.

Cardi B added, “And if y’all are paying ni**as to say that they got it, pay me too,” she said. “Bitch tryna get paid.”

Cardi was working in the studio on her new album, she admitted she wants to leave the house so she can get plastic surgery. “A bitch tryna get lipo,” she said. “I needs to know when this shit gonna finish.”

List of companies now hiring during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans are unemployed. In fact, 70,000 more Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week March 14th, a 33% spike, the United States Labor Department blames on the Coronavirus outbreak-related layoffs.

Hotel and restaurants had the largest amount of layoffs. Marriott International, told Wall Street Journal, that they are furloughing about two-thirds of its 4,000 employees at its headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, in addition to a un-specified number of hotel workers as travel decreases worldwide. Other hotel owners are letting go of employees.

That said, major retailers and grocery stores are now hiring, as food and medicine are the emergency supplies Americans need during the pandemic, major retailers are hiring people to work during the pandemic.

Walmart

Walmart says they plan to hire 150,000 new workers by the end of May to work in its stores and the distribution hubs. The jobs will start as temporary, the company explained, but will eventually become into full-time positions.

Walmart says they are streamlining their hiring process for cashiers and stockers. Usually, it takes two weeks for a new employee to get hired. But, as part of the new application process, it will only take 24 hours. For those already working at Walmart, the supercenter is promising a bonus of $300 for full-time hourly workers and $150 for part-time hourly workers, payable on April 2nd.

Amazon

As we previously reported, Amazon is hiring 100,000 new full and part-time workers. The company is raising wages for its existing workers. The increase is $2/hour for U.S. workers.

Both Walmart and Amazon said they would be making an effort to hire people out of work in the hospitality, restaurant and travel industry. But, they did not reveal a formal process for finding unemployed workers for those jobs.

Grocery Stores

Grocery stores are also hiring to keep up with increased demand for stocking goods. Amazon, Albertsons, Cosentino’s, Kroger and Safeway are all hiring, according to Newsweek.

Safeway tweeted, “We need your help. We’re hiring for immediate openings! Apply at your local store or online now!”

Lineage Logistics, a major refrigerated warehousing company, plans to hire 2,000 new workers to meet a 30% jump in demand recently, the NYT reports.

Influencers Say Coronavirus is Hurting Their Business

Influencers are saying Coronavirus is hurting their business.

Ratchford says she still has monthly deals, which require her to post and will allow her to continue making money, but she has to get creative and produce content because of California’s “Safer at Home” order.

Other influencers affected by the Coronavirus include Travel influencers. According to reports, travel influencers, people who post photos from exotic places and are often compensated for traveling to those locations, are getting hit by the Coronavirus. “[Coronavirus is] impacting my income massively,” Callum Snape, a Vancouver-based travel photographer with 819,000 followers on Instagram, told Buzzfeed. “I haven’t seen any new inquiries in the past six weeks since the outbreak became more widespread.”

Selena Taylor of @FindUsLost, an NYC travel influencer with 177,000 followers, says she’s “definitely noticed a dip in people booking hotels and Airbnbs.”

Melissa Hie, of @GirlEatsWorld, tells Buzzfeed, “[Things have] changed in that I am not traveling at all at the moment and not actively planning unnecessary trips until the virus situation looks better.”

One Instagrammer is Lauren Bullen, who is embracing social distancing and who has over 2.1 million followers @Gypsea_Lust.

“We are also having to think about not traveling too much at the moment because it could be seen negatively to be promoting travel at a time like this,” she writes.

That said, influencers are profiting from the epidemic. According to Business Insiders, wellness influencers are telling followers to buy toxic doses of vitamins to protect them from the Coronavirus. Naturopathic practitioners have taken to YouTube to promote alternative medical treatments to the virus. Some of the advice they are giving are recommending herbs and extracts instead of hand-washing.

Harvey Weinstein Reportedly Tests Positive for Coronavirus

Harvey Weinstein reportedly tests positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to Deadline, Hollywood mogul has tested positive for the diseases. Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in March on sexual assault and rape charges and recently transferred to Wende Correctional Facility in New York.

Deadline says he has been placed in medical isolation. However, PR reps for Weinstein do not know the positive Coronavirus test.

“Our team …has not heard anything like that yet,” said Weinstein PR chief Juda Engelmayer on Sunday. “I can’t tell you what I don’t know,” the producer’s rep told Deadline.

The coronavirus is changing the world in real-time. Healthcare systems are struggling to control the outbreak, and governments are mandating social distancing rules. Deadline reports, it is unknown how Weinstein contracted the disease.

On February 24, Weinstein was found guilty by a New York jury of two sex crime felony charges after a nearly a six-week trial. Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison on March 11.

Weinstein complained of chest pains and was sent to New York City’s Bellevue Hospital. Weinstein was later moved to Rikers’ vast North infirmary Command, where he remained until he was transferred to Wende Correctional Facility in New York.

The Hollywood Mogul was first arrested in New York in late May 2018. Weinstein initially faced two counts of predatory sexual assault, one count of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and one count each for first-degree rape and third-degree rape in New York. Subject to travel restrictions reinforced last August 7, he had been out on a $5 million bail after entering a not guilty plea on July 9, 2018. Weinstein entered a plea of not guilty on August 26, 2019, when a new indictment was added.
