California Gov. Reveals Six-Point Guide Before California Can Reopen

California Gov. Gavin Newsom revealed on Tuesday, a guide on how to reopen California’s economy, as government officials consider lifting restrictions, which have been in place for nearly a month. He pointed out six key things to help inform state officials regarding when stay-at-home orders issued amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak.

“This phase is one where science – public health, not politics, must be the guide,” he explained in a public televised address. “Where must be open to argument, interested in evidence, where we cannot be ideological in any way, shape or form in terms of how we approach a condition that changes on an hourly and daily basis – conditions that will ultimately determine what decisions we make.”

Here are the six-figure plan and what it will take to restart California.

  • 1. Increased Testing
  • 2. Protect the vulnerable including seniors, the homeless, and those with immune deficiencies
  • 3. Additional equipment for hospitals, staff, and to prepare for potential surges of COVID-19
  • 4. Work closely with research and academics
  • 5. Change floor plans for businesses, schools, and other facilities to encourage safe social distancing
  • 6. Implementing planned interventions when necessary

Newsom explains with increased testing it is necessary “to appropriately address the tracing and tracking of individuals – the isolation and the quarantine of individuals using the technology and using a workforce that needs to be trained in an infrastructure that needs to be in place in order to begin the process to transition.”

He added, there is an urgency to protect those most at risk saying, “the most vulnerable populations in the state of California from infection and spread,”

Newsom asserted the need to be prepared, “as we adopt new strategies [and] we loosen the stay-at-home orders. … We need to make sure that that infrastructure is protected and to make sure that those assets are well prepared.” He added, research and a vaccine “we hope, the next year or so”, will allow for California to reopen.

‘God Friended Me’ Canceled By CBS After Two Seasons

0

CBS cancels ‘God Friended Me’ after two seasons.

The Hollywood Reporter reports the network canceled the season but gave the show’s producers enough time to write an ending for the series. The show will conclude with a two-hour finale on April 26th.

“We’re extremely proud of the unique concept and uplifting stories God Friended Me has told over the past two seasons,” CBS and Warner Bros. TV said in a statement. “We thank the brilliant cast, writers, production team and crew for a show that stirred thoughtful conversation about faith, life and happiness, and made viewers feel good at the end of each episode. The creative team behind the show has one last ‘friend suggestion’ in mind, as well as an ending we hope brings a satisfying conclusion to Miles’ journey in search of the God Account.”

The TV series featured Brandon Michael Hall as an atheist who gets a friend request from “God” and he helps people around him. The cast of the series included Violett Beane, Suraj Sharma, Javicia Leslie, Joe Morton and Erica Gimpel.

The series averaged 7.7 million viewers and a 0.8 key demo rating with delayed viewing. That said, the series saw a 20% drop in ratings and 33% drop in the keto demos compared to its first season. The series had the smallest audience on CBS’ Sunday lineup.

The Hollywood Reporter reports this is the fourth CBS series to get the axe including ‘Madam Secretary’, ‘Hawaii Five-0’, and ‘Criminal Minds’. The series did renew ‘Mom’ and Young Sheldon’.

Alison Brie Reveals Training for Netflix’s ‘GLOW’ Helped Her Fight with Body Dysmorphia

Alison Brie reveals what she learned from working on Netflix’sGlow‘.

Actress Alison Brie has worked on Netflix’s hit series ‘Glow’ for four seasons and while the show is coming to an end, the 37-year old actress is revealing how training for the show changed her life.

“It helped with my relationship to my body times a million,” Brie tells Women’s Health magazine for the May cover. “Before, I always felt at odds with it; I wanted it to be something it wasn’t. But I didn’t have the tools to do that in a healthy way.”

Brie touched on how she viewed her body and how she felt about her body during red carpet events.

“An hour before that I was in tears,” she recalls of certain public appearances. “I thought I was so disgusting.”

Her perspective has changed as she developed a better perspective on fitness and health. “It took the motivation out of being skinny for Hollywood standards and made it about being strong for lifting other women, literally,” she said of training to portray a women’s wrestler. “There was a real goal.”

Brie uses her social media platform to show off her strength she gained through training for ‘GLOW’. She even says working out has helped with her mental health.

“When I’ve been in a really serious depression, I’ll drag myself to a yoga class — even if I don’t want to be around people — tears streaming down my face. But, Get in class, get out of your head, get blood flowing. It ends up helping eventually,” she said.

Brie says her husband, Dave Franco, helped her become more vocal about her personal struggles.  “It’s been funny talking to him about it,” she explained. “He said, ‘Before I knew you, I’m not sure I believed body dysmorphia was a real thing. It’s so interesting to me what you see — and what I’m seeing when I’m looking at you — and the frank discussions we have about it.’”

Brie says the changes she had to be a part of the show will last well after the show is over. “It’s part of me forever,” she said.

Vancouver Expects to Start Film Production Faster Than Anywhere Else

While productions around the world have shut down amid the Coronavirus, British Columbia Premier John Horgan reports the province’s handling of COVID-19 is getting favorable reviews.

During a news conference on Thursday in Vancouver, Hogan says American producers are following how British Columbia is handing the Coronavirus outbreak with the potential to start production in the province faster than anywhere else.

“Hollywood is looking at what we’ve been doing in British Columbia very favorably,” Horgan said.

“They’ve seen that the curve is starting to bend in the right direction, they’ve seen the programs that we’re putting in place and they see an opportunity to return to British Columbia perhaps faster than they will to other parts of North America,” he said.

Most cities and states have shut down nonessential businesses. B.C.’s film industry was hurt due to the work stoppages and travel restrictions.  Regional film commissions on Vancouver Island reveal they are ready for when productions bounce bank in the near future.

“We continue to field calls from productions who are looking for locations and resources in preparation for future dates,” says Joan Miller of the Vancouver Island North Film Commission.

“We are working with productions who were scheduled to film but are now on hold, helping them with the logistics so they can get back to work as soon as possible,” she said.

Los Angeles based producers are working with Vancouver Island South Film and Media Commission to start planning for post-pandemic filming.

Horgan says the work of British Columbians has helped flatten the curve of infections in the province.

“When the opportunity presents itself, British Columbians will step up and our economy will get back to a very healthy position as quickly as we can possibly do it,” he said.

According to Creative BC, Vancouver’s motion picture industry projected close to 13,000 job openings in the TV and film industry over the next decade. Creative BC says the productions contribute approximately $3.4 billion to the economy annually and employ 60,870 people.

In relevant news, New Mexico expects the film industry to recover following the Coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re optimistic we’re going to be busy and that we’re going to be able to get back to work and offer opportunities for work for the film community,” said Garson Studios Managing Director Claudio Ruben. “And just like everyone else, we’re in a holding pattern and waiting for everything to blow through and jumping back in and going for it.”

Coronavirus: New Mexico Reps Expect Film Industry To Recover

New Mexico film industry experts expect the film industry to recover following the Coronavirus pandemic.

New Mexico’s film industry is rapidly growing. However, like many places around the world, the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic has brought the film business to a standstill. While filming is no longer taking place in the state, studios told KRQE News 13 many productions are confident the film industry will bounce back.

Garson Studios explains they stopped production on a TV series and a movie that was being produced at their studios. Last year, New Mexico’s film industry brought in $500 million of direct spending into the state. When filming stopped this year, the Economic Development Department Secretary says there will be an expected drop in revenue. But, they are not concerned about the future of New Mexico’s film industry.

“Our Film Office is actually seeing more calls than ever,” said NM Economic Development Department Secretary Alicia Keyes. “We are entertaining a third partner; we’ve had two companies reach out to us recently that want to move out of Los Angeles and Burbank, so we are actually thinking the film and television sector will be the fastest to come back.”

Coronavirus: XFL Files for Bankruptcy

Vince McMahon’s XFL has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

XFL had their first debut season and it was the second time a launching a spring professional football league. The league shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic in late March. The XFL listed between $10 million and $50 million in debts and an equal amount in assets, according to a Delaware bankruptcy court filing.

Last week, the league reported it would shut down operations and lay off everyone except their top executives. According to ESPN, staffers were informed of the decision in a conference call on Friday that they would be paid through the end of the regular season, which was scheduled to end on Monday.

History of the XFL

The 2020 XFL season is the second attempt by WWE chairman McMahon to start a spring professional football league. The first attempt took place in 2001.

The league had a good start averaging more than 3 million viewers. But ratings would fall thereafter. On March 20, the league ended its season early due to the Coronavirus.

McMahon revealed plans to start the XFL in January 2018, with a  “shorter, fast-paced games and a family-friendly environment.” The original XFL season had horrible TV ratings and even worse plays.

Don Cheadle Only Had Two Hours to Take the Marvel Role

In an in-depth interview covering Don Cheadle’s most popular roles, the actor revealed an interesting story, which led him to be cast as War Machine starting with ‘Iron Man 2’.

Terrence Howard originally played James “Rhodey” Rhodes. But, he left the series after being asked to take a pay cut. Marvel Studios went looking for an actor to replace him in the following movies. What many Marvel fans do not know is that Cheadle had nearly lost the role to Howard, so it was interesting to know that the studio called him and asked him if he was still interested in the part.

According to The AV Club, Marvel did not give Cheadle a lot of time to decide whether or not to take the role.

“I don’t think it was [Kevin] Feige. I don’t know who was on the phone. But they said, “Hey, this is the role. We want you to do this. It’s a six-picture deal.” I was like, “What?! Oh, uh, okay…” And I’m trying to do the math. I’m like, “That’s 11 or 12 years. I’m not sure.” And they’re like, “Well, we need to know, because if you’re not saying yes, then we’re gonna move on to the next person. So you’ve got an hour.”

An hour to decide 12 years, and a role and parts that I don’t even know, in movies that are coming down that I have no idea what they’ll be. I said, “I’m at my kid’s laser tag party right now.” They said, “Oh! Oh, take two hours.” So generous!”

Cheadle spoke about the offer to his wife and she was on board with him taking the role. Cheadle would take the part and his acting is a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Coronavirus: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Will Still Film in Atlanta This September

James Gunn reveals ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ production is not delayed due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The director of the upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie and ‘The Suicide Squad’, James Gunn, reveals that both movies will not be affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Gunn answered fans on his Twitter account. He said the “Suicide Squad” movie for Warner Bros. is still scheduled for an August 6, 2021 release.

“Right now there’s no reason for ‘The Suicide Squad’ release date to move. We are on or ahead of schedule. We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting and set up editing from our homes (due to a post-production team and studio with foresight) before quarantine,” Gunn said.

Gunn gave a similar response on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, which currently does not have a release date yet but, was set to start filming in Atlanta, this September.

“Right now the plans with ‘Vol. 3’ are also exactly the same as they were before Coronavirus,” he said.

Many upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie release dates were changed due to the Coronavirus related Hollywood shutdown.  In fact, “Black Widow” was moved from November, pushing back all the remaining Marvel movies, including “The Eternals,” “Shang-Chi,” “Doctor Strange 2,” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.” “Black Panther 2” and “Captain Marvel 2” are scheduled for early 2022.

Warner Bros. has not released details for “The Suicide Squad” movie. Returning cast members include Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, and Joel Kinnaman, and the star-studded group of newcomers, including Idris Elba, John Cena, Taika Waititi, and Nathan Fillion.

Gunn said the film’s editors are successfully working from home, but the first images or a trailer for “The Suicide Squad” is not finished yet.

Kristen Bell Reveals She Was Told She Was Not “Pretty” Enough To Be an Actor

0

Kristen Bell says she was told she wasn’t “pretty” enough for roles.

Kristen Bell has a long history as a professional working actress. Her latest role in “The Good Place” is arguably her biggest role to date followed by her voice acting in the ‘Frozen’ movies. The Golden-Globe nominated actress did not have an easy start in the film industry. In fact, according to an interview, when she started her acting career she was criticized for not fitting into a standard “type“.

She explains, “I remember early on, getting feedback, that I wasn’t enough in either category. I would get feedback from an audition: ‘Well, you’re not pretty enough to play the pretty girl, but you’re not quirky enough or weird enough to play the weird girl.’”

She thought acting required fitting into two types either “pretty” or “quirky”. She added,  “I was like, ‘Okay, does that just mean I can’t be an actor? What does that mean.’ That’s what I was getting feedback on, on every audition.”

Bell believes there are far more options for actresses when it comes to roles. She says, “I think as I’ve grown older, those boxes have changed … and [have]almost gone away. It’s this huge gray area now of all these beautiful stories you can tell … that have dimensional people that don’t have to be one thing. It’s not the ’80s where you have to have the popular girl and then the nerd who gets the guy. It’s not that anymore and I’m really grateful for that. It opens up a lot of opportunities for everyone to play and pretend, which is the most fun part.”

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Ellen Pompeo Says the Coronavirus is “Heartbreaking”

0

Ellen Pompeo may play a doctor on television on the hit ABC medical drama, ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ but, that does not mean she does not care about medical professionals fighting the Coronavirus outbreak.

On Friday, Ellen Pompeo spoke with “Variety” in an Instagram Live interview. During the interview she said she is uncertain about the possibility of doing a coronavirus-themed episode, then she spoke about a now-viral 2014 clip of President Barack Obama warning of the possibility of a deadly virus outbreak and how we must always prepare for such a threat.

“Obviously, we don’t want to get too political here, but I was just watching the news and I saw clip of Barack Obama in 2014, saying that a pandemic was inevitable and that we should be prepared for it,” she told Variety. “And then in 2014, the Republicans were not granting him the budget, the access to put together what he felt like he needed to keep the American people safe, is how he put it in his words. So, in 2014, Obama was very well aware that this was going to happen and very well aware that we needed to be more prepared than we were at that time for it. The fact that five years later we’re not prepared, some people dropped the ball for sure. It’s disappointing.

Pompeo says the challenge of staying inside does not compare to what healthcare workers are experiencing.

“…Can you imagine having to suit up, hopefully, suit up, hopefully you have the PPE to suit up, and walk straight into a hospital every single day and deal with sick person, after sick person, after sick person?” she said. “We don’t know sacrifice. Sitting in our houses, being bored, not having anything to do, being alone and loneliness is a real thing, and I don’t certainly want to downplay that. And I don’t want to also downplay people financially struggling. There’s a lot of fallout from this in all areas.”

Pompeo also touched on the obstacles healthcare workers are facing due to the Coronavirus.

“Our healthcare professionals, the fact that they’re fighting this fight unprepared without the proper gear is really heartbreaking for me,” she told the outlet. “When people are struggling, if you’re struggling, I think it’s always helpful to think of someone else and think of what you could do for someone else.”
