We are seeking a talented, dependable and self-motivated director of photography to join our video production team. This person will help plan, direct, and coordinate the production of videos for Hy-Vee. The ideal candidate is a natural storyteller with a strong eye for detail, can direct talent and is obsessed with capturing the perfect shot.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with the video production team, VP of Video Production and Creative Director to support direction and creation of video content for Hy-Vee’s streaming video network, social media, internal audiences, special events, and more.
  • Develop each video’s visual style collaboratively with a creative team.
  • Supervise crew and direct camera movement while on set or on-location.
  • Make artistic and technical decisions regarding location, lighting, film stock, shot selection/blocking, camera operation and other elements to help tell the best story.
  • Determine lighting requirements on set, including controlling natural or artificial lighting conditions.
  • Decide the best camera angles and frames for scenes.
  • Determine elements such as camera aperture, filters, shutter angles, focus, depth of field and camera distance.
  • Support editing visual elements in post-production.
  • Offers innovative or creative ideas that add value to video projects.
  • Continuously discovers and implements new techniques and best practices to maximize efficiency.

· Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

SKILLS NEEDED

  • Proven work experience as director of photography with a strong portfolio and sample reel.
  • Creative visual thinker.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Technical understanding of the digital workflow, camera types, and operation.
  • Experience working in Adobe Premiere and After Effects, basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop are a plus.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and pivot with positivity.
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Takes direction well and offers solution-oriented critique, feedback and ideas.
  • Strong determination to get the job done.
  • Natural story teller and creative thinker with an eagle eye for details.
  • Strong project management skills and organization to manage time efficiently.
  • Works well as part of a team and also comfortable working independently with minimum supervision and self-motivation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Required)

Bachelor’s degree in film studies, art, photography or related field with a minimum of 10+ years’ experience.
