Job Summary & Purpose
As Entertainment Writer on Gamesradar.com, you will be responsible for helping to continue the rapid global growth of the website by delivering content that connects with a global audience of millions of TV and Film fans. You will be an expert in the field who knows your MCU from your DCEU, your James Bond from your Jack Reacher, and your Jedi from your Jawa.
You will play a pivotal role ensuring that the website is updated multiple times a day with new articles: working with the Senior Entertainment Editor, Global EiC, and wider US and UK team to create a daily output of content in line with the site’s strategy. You’ll be comfortable writing about all aspects of entertainment content, with a particular focus on popular genres of TV and Film.
From news, previews and features, to reviews and how to watch guides, you will be able to quickly write entertaining and informative copy that answers readers’ queries and is written in a way that ranks well in Search. You’ll have an instinct for what brings the audience to GamesRadar.com, and be willing to engage with data to shape your workflow and drive the site to further success. You will instinctively understand what the audience wants to read about, and will have a strong drive to deliver that content first, ahead of GR’s key rivals.
You will play a very hands-on role, and may be required to perform many different content tasks for the site, which may also include repurposing and sub-editing existing editorial copy – ensuring that it meets the requirements of our SEO strategy and is optimised where appropriate for Search and ecommerce as appropriate.
You may also be required to write occasional marketing pieces, for Future’s wider brands, as well as client partnerships; also, regular social media posts and email newsletter digests of the site’s content.
You will have a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding and interest in popular TV and Film, and you will be a fast worker who can write, sub, re-write, and upload content quickly using our in-house CMS (training provided).
You will enjoy using tools like Google Analytics, to analyse and measure the success of your articles, and will be able to spot, communicate and proactively act on new opportunities for audience growth.
You will be hugely excited about the opportunity to continue the incredible growth story of GamesRadar globally, and where relevant, will work closely with related internal teams, including those in print editorial, commercial, marketing and events.
You’ll also help generate ideas that can be executed by the global GR team, and assist with any aspect of the site that requires your expertise. You’ll uncover great stories, interviews and angles before rival sites, being able to create news and angles for articles from your sources/contacts or your expertise. You may have experience creating video or podcast content, and be willing to help deliver this for the site if required.
An active interest in gaming would be helpful given the core audience and content of the website.
