Ursa Major is looking for a Senior Art Director to join our growing creative team.
We’re looking for a true creative leader with a passion for visual storytelling and brand identity, who can help us continue to evolve and elevate our creative strategy and execution.
This person will bring strong ideation, strategy, tactical execution and leadership skills to help shape the long-term vision for the Ursa Major brand. Reporting to our CEO, and eventually to a Senior Brand Marketer, this role will work closely with our founders, product development, ecommerce, marketing, creative, and social teams to maximize brand awareness and loyalty through inspired, on-brand creative efforts.
**This role is based in the Northeast, requiring at least 1-2 visits/month to our headquarters in Waterbury, Vermont.
What You’ll Do:
- Concept and help develop exceptional creative for launch campaigns, social media, emails, packaging, and all major channels.
- Manage and mentor our small but mighty in-house creative team and freelance designers—helping to further develop creative design as a function at Ursa Major.
- Partner with Copy & Content Director to manage the workflow of our in-house creative team, and ensure seamless production between copy & design.
- Ideate and assist in regular shoots (including storyboard, location, casting, styling, photography, and film), and attend shoots in-person, working closely with our intrepid in-house photographer.
- Evolve, develop and foster strong design conventions and guidelines for the brand (including art direction, graphics, typography, video, commissioned and organic content), oversee implementation and cohesiveness of the brand.
- Manage the creative request/approval process, and align with marketing and ecommerce teams to ensure that creative execution aligns with briefs.
- Own & effectively communicate our visual direction to internal and external teams.
What You Have:
- 10-15 experience crafting outstanding creative at a design firm, agency, or premium direct-to-consumer brand(s).
- Experience managing a successful creative team, even a small one.
- Experience executing across the full spectrum of creative brand work, including print, packaging, digital, social media, and video.
- A deep understanding of the principles of graphic design, photography, and videography.
- A portfolio of exceptional, relevant work.
- BFA or BA in graphic design, advertising, fine arts, or relevant field.
- Highly skilled in Adobe Creative Suite.
- An ability to be hands-on and toggle between the execution of day-to-day projects, while identifying and tracking against larger brand initiatives.
- An appreciation for premium consumer brands—the best of the best. You’re ever on the lookout for what other brands are doing well.
- A finger on the pulse of relevant trends, culture, current events, and competitors.
- An ability to infuse the Ursa Major values, stories, and brand aspirations into projects, from concept to completion.
- A keen interest in health, wellness, and sustainability.
- Nice-to-haves: experience in the beauty industry/CPG space, a natural passion for the outdoors, adventuring, and clean skincare!
