The Challenge and The Opportunity

As an Assistant Designer, you will design hand-knit and crochet garments and accessories for women, children, and men.

In the first 3 months, you will:

  • Become familiar with the Berroco line of products and production schedule.
  • Create knit and crochet designs.
  • Sketch, swatch, and spec designs.
  • Write designer draft of patterns for garment samples.
  • Research fashion and craft trends.
  • Create content for social media channels and Berroco blog.

In the first 6 months, you will:

  • Assist with seasonal launch tasks including staging items on the website, reviewing pattern proofs, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in industry and shop events.
  • Assist with preparation of garments for photo shoots.
  • Assist with providing pattern support to customers.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3–5 years hand knit design/patterning experience
  • Experience writing patterns
  • Knowledge of sizing and planning for multiple sizes
  • Good sketching skills
  • Proficiency with Apple computers and/or PCs
  • Familiarity with Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Crochet design experience (preferred)
  • Yarn shop sales and/or teaching experience (preferred)
  • Other fiber craft experience such as weaving, macrame, etc. (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Record clear, high-quality audio during on-location shoots.

  • Collaborate closely with the director, DP, and editor to maintain consistent sound design and tone.

  • Set up and manage all sound recording equipment, including boom mics, lavaliers, and mixers.
