Job Description
The role of Art Director (AD) at The Mill is one of creative innovation and ingenuity, leadership, and team building, responsible for working cohesively with a team of Designers, Illustrators and Animators to create the unique vision developed for our clients. A Mill AD has an extensive knowledge of the Design/VFX & commercial advertising industry and can relate it to our clients’ specific projects in the most unique artistic way.
An AD at The Mill will work closely with the CD for Design and the Design team on projects that require origination and creative development and thinking. The AD must be highly visually creative and in addition to an acute sense for visual aesthetics, have an in-depth knowledge of the technology used in aspects of Design. They will design for the projects of internal and external directors. They must also have an excellent awareness of client requirements and the ability to coordinate projects, communicate creative ideas and guide clients through a creative process.
Our AD’s must constantly research, develop and adapt new and current technology, creative ideas and techniques so that they remain at the forefront of our industry and develop a reputation for attracting and producing work that is innovative and highly original. They will be responsible for improving and refining creative output to build a culture of design around a vision set by the CD, HOD & EP. They are expected to manage projects from collaborative conceptualization through to final design and deliver the vision and creative process. Responsibilities
- Art Direct projects for both internal and external clients, managing each project from conceptualisation through to final product.
- Generate inspirational, conceptual and creative ideas through and within the Design team.
- Mentor a productive and award winning creative team, constantly improving and refining creative output.
- Manage creative projects including the conceptualisation and origination of design briefs and execution of the work across all disciplines.
- Ensure final creative is consistent with client strategy and brand guidelines.
- Work with creative leads and production teams to win work from prospective clients.
- Work with the HOD, CD and Design Directors to provide & develop design solutions.
- Lead the art direction of visual content for Design, 2D and 3D projects.
- Manage artists on both production and creative, ensuring highly creative output and quality control from conception through to delivery to meet creative, budget and deadline expectations.
- Advise and work with the creative teams in developing ideas, strategy and pitch collateral for all Design projects.
- Present concepts and design ideas to clients and make recommendations where appropriate.
- Attend local awards and client events to build relations and create new leads for potential projects and business.
- Work closely with CD, Design Directors and Designers to research, develop and implement new technology and creative ideas.
- Guide, teach and mentor Artists in the Design department in developing ideas further.
- Brief other members of the creative team and lead successful creative sessions for projects.
- Create, design and animate where necessary, in collaboration with others.
- Weekly meetings with CD and Producer.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of Art Direction.
- Ability to work with directors, producers and designers.
- Ability to lead projects from concept to completion.
- Clear presentations skills to inspire the creative team and to present company goals and creative vision.
- Ability to translate concepts into creative design.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently internally and externally.
- In-depth knowledge of motion graphics, 2D & 3D design and experience of design tools.

As an Artistic Director Visual Design at Ubi MTL, you are in charge of the quality and content of graphic and audiovisual productions. You will ensure that the elements produced are aligned with the game’s vision and propose creative and innovative ideas and concepts.
Collaborating closely with artists and designers across production teams, you’ll support them in pushing concepts further, producing consistent work, and enhancing player experiences through impactful visuals.

The SVP, Associate Creative Director is responsible for ensuring that all Agency work is on strategy and meets or exceeds the highest level of creative accomplishment. You’ll contribute to growing the Clients’ business. They act as the Creative Director’s right hand and is able to step in to fulfill these functions when necessary. The SVP, Associate Creative Director/Copy also acts an advocate for Biolumina while helping to identify and recruit new talent as well as provides leadership and guidance within their department.
General Responsibilities
- Demonstrate leadership qualities as evident by ability to motivate team, facilitate great thinking, and keep the morale high.
- Proactively seek opportunities for improvements in the department and offer executable solutions
- Keep Creative Director(s) briefed on creative projects in a timely manner
- Establish credibility with Clients at all levels by developing knowledge of Clients’ business, both the brand itself and people involved (i.e. internal client structure, individual responsibilities, and interaction between groups/individuals with respect to their impact on client jobs)
- Manage outside vendor/resources effectively from both cost and creative standpoints, including photographers, illustrators, and production vendors for premiums and printing.
- Keep abreast of current advertising, design, and other visual communications. Continuously explore cutting-edge, current, and unique design styles and imagery.
- Demonstrate the ability to work in various forms of media including a working knowledge of the print production process
- Contribute to new business efforts creatively, as a reliable steward of the work, and presenting the work in the new business effort
Brand Champion
- Act as a brand steward maintaining the integrity and excellence of the brand in all materials developed
- Consistently provide fresh, unique, and strategic thinking for all brand marketing/advertising initiatives
- Ensure that Agency work is on strategy and contributes to growing the Clients’ business
- Work as a team with copywriters to develop conceptual approaches to meet Client objectives
- Attend photo-shoots; provide necessary on-the-spot feedback to vendors to effectively accomplish agency and client goals
- Acts as gatekeeper to ensure that all final products released demonstrate only the highest quality creative and effectively communicates brand messages to targeted customers.
- Be an effective presenter and clearly communicate creative concepts and rationale for design choices to team and clients and/or new business prospects
- Demonstrate ability to “zoom in and out” (big picture thinking as well as attention to details) as necessary
Collaboration
- Demonstrate ability to collaborate with Client/Agency Creative/Account teams
- Help create a collaborative work environment between all departments and demonstrate ability to handle conflicts in a positive, professional and productive manner
- Work with account service from beginning of project until the end to make sure all projects meet budgetary guidelines
- Maintain positive relationships with and utilize the internal business group departments (electronic studio, editorial, traffic, imaging and production) appropriately
Management Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the ability to manage time and prioritize all jobs effectively, as well as oversee junior members of the art brand team by monitoring projects, delegating assignments and approving work
- Monitor overall workload to effect efficiency and assure that waiting or downtime is minimized
- Help supervisor manage and resolve staff issues including performance, personal presentation and internal interactions
- Recommend adjustments/additions to the roles and procedures of the department to achieve continuous improvement and efficiency across all accounts and/or specific accounts.
- Help interview, train and orient new team members to the agency, department, and account(s) at the direction of Creative Director
- Mentors reports by providing constructive, ongoing feedback to them as well as completing annual performance reviews
- Provide ongoing guidance to all team members and be available to them as a resource for account/agency/departmental policies, procedures, etc.
- Keep supervisor or department head appraised of any workload challenges/concerns on assigned team accounts that may necessitate hiring freelancers or moving creatives around to better utilize their time
- Oversee team’s time off schedules, time reporting, etc. to ensure appropriate coverage at all times for accounts. Maintain accurate time sheets for self and team. Monitor, review and approve direct report’s time sheets in terms of hours worked on specific jobs
Vice-President Responsibilities
- Acts as an advocate of Biolumina; makes decisions with the Agency’s and employees’ best interest in mind
- Provides leadership within his/her department as well as across the Agency
- Proactively provides suggestions that impact agency policy and operations
- Demonstrates support of the Agency’s goals and mission
- Presents a professional and positive image of Biolumina both internally and externally
- Motivates direct reports, and acts as a mentor to all within Agency
- Identifies, recruits, trains and develops talent
Qualifications
- College degree
- 8+ years of art design/direction experience
- Pharmaceutical advertising experience
- 3-4 years of supervisory experience
- Proficiency with creative programs/suites
- Advertising or design portfolio
- Excellent oral communication and presentation skills

HIRING REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in the areas of Graphic Design, English or Journalism.
- Minimum ten years professional experience as a Sr. Graphic Designer, Art Director, Copywriter or Creative Supervisor in an advertising agency or similar environment.
- Thorough understanding of the overall creative process and techniques, including conceptualization, design, copy development, production artwork, pre-press, computer graphics, printing technologies and web/internet design/software/technologies.
- Strong creative abilities and the ability to develop innovative ideas and concepts.
- Ability to lead, motivate and supervise creative/professional individuals, leading them to a higher level of quality and creativity.
- Ability to have a positive attitude and effect on the creative/professional staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

- General understanding of financial analysis and budget development.
