He is ambitious, willing to go to great lengths to gain recognition, even if it means exploiting his subject. While he may appear callous on the surface, there’s a softer side to him deep down.

  • Role: Debra Braden [LEAD]
    • Character Description: Debra Braden is a middle-aged mermaid, aged between 40-50, open to performers of any ethnicity and ability. She defies conventional mermaid depictions seen in mainstream media. Debra exudes a rough-around-the-edges charm, bearing the marks of life’s challenges with a few missing scales. The narrative revolves around a documentary series exploring her unique existence. Debra grapples with a lifetime of rejection, loss, and the weight of being different. The role demands a strong comedic sensibility and precise timing.

    • Character Description: Female, 60-70, Black. Mitch’s adoptive mother and mother figure to Annette. Trixie’s a former exotic dancer, current formidable force — and above all, fabulous. A mother figure to everyone she meets. She’s deeply empathetic, nurturing, and generous to a fault. She radiates warmth. She’d give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. You might not even have to ask. But underneath, there’s solitude and unspoken grief — a result of her daughter being taken away decades ago. Her past fuels her desire to help others, to offer them the support she both didn’t have and couldn’t provide her own child. But don’t get it twisted, amidst all the compassion there’s a “FUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT” streak. Hurt anybody under her wing and you’ll see just how vicious a kind person can be.

Requirements:

Alba faced the daunting task of rebuilding her life after the passing of her husband, Rafael, following a prolonged battle with cancer when her daughters were 16 and 9 years old. Struggling through a period of severe depression, Alba ultimately found strength with the support of her eldest daughter, Carmen, and took up a job as a cleaning woman to provide for her family. Recently, she has been diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer, but she chooses to keep this information a secret, fearing her family’s reaction. In spite of this, she decides to embark on a last-minute trip to Colombia for her niece’s wedding. Alba speaks with a Colombian accent.
