Project Information:

“OUTSIDER” is a quiet, atmospheric drama that captures the nuanced interactions of a girl named Adina in the twenty-four hours after a new boy moves in next door. The film explores themes of isolation, community, and the subtle dynamics of a small neighborhood. This project is under the direction of Nathania ten Wolde, a Masters student in screenwriting and directing at Columbia University, bringing her unique vision shaped by her upbringing in Bayou La Batre.

Roles Available:

ADINA (Lead, Female, 8-13 years old, Caucasian/Mixed/Ethnically ambiguous):

• Characteristics: Quiet, observant, feels like an outsider even within her own family.

• Responsibilities: Must convey a range of subtle emotions, work well under direction, and interact convincingly with other characters.

KATHY (Supporting, Female, Late 30s – Early 40s, Caucasian/Mixed/Ethnically ambiguous):

• Responsibilities: Portray a caring but cautious mother, engage in dialogue-heavy scenes, show strong emotional expressions.

• Characteristics: Stern, the moral and spiritual leader of the community, tough but fair.

• Responsibilities: Deliver convincing dialogues, portray authority and warmth, handle confrontational scenes.

Requirements:

• Previous acting experience preferred but not necessary.

Compensation:

• This is a non-paid role; however, actors will gain valuable experience working on a student film that could be used for educational and portfolio purposes.
