DUAL REPORTS TO: Founder and CEO
About Mr. Beast
We are the largest YouTube brand in the world, renowned for our seemingly impossible creative ingenuities. At MrBeast, we attribute much of our success to putting our four foundational pillars of viral content above everything else: IRL Comedy, Spectacles, General Good, and Philanthropy. Our YouTube presence boasts 6 channels, 146 million subscribers, 20 billion video views, and a 501c3 accredited charity.
Jimmy Donaldson began posting videos to YouTube in early 2012 at the age of 13. His videos first went viral in 2017 after his “counting to 100,000” video earned tens of thousands of views in just a few days. He has become increasingly popular ever since, with most of his videos gaining tens of millions of views. Over time, his style of content diversified to include challenge and donation videos that reward thousands of dollars, videos with arduous tasks or survival challenges, and original vlogs. Donaldson’s main YouTube channel now has over 130 million subscribers. He also runs several other YouTube channels, including Beast Reacts, MrBeast Gaming, MrBeast Shorts, and a philanthropy channel. He was the highest paid Youtuber according to Forbes in 2022.
Donaldson is also the founder of MrBeast Burger and Feastables, and a co-creator of Team Trees, a fundraiser for the Arbor Day Foundation that has raised over $23 million and Team Seas, a fundraiser for Ocean Conservancy and The Ocean Cleanup that has raised over $30 million.
What we are looking for:
Someone who can concept/Write/Budget/Source talent/Cast/scout locations/set build/direct/edit/analyze and test.
It takes a team of the world’s best to stay on top. We are obsessive and we look for people that are just as obsessive and even smarter than we are. If you are curious, ambitious, fearless, and a self-starter with a history of pushing the limits of the possible you’ll fit right in with our company values. Oh and you’ll need to be well versed in digital and social video content creation – especially Youtube.
If you are ultimately chosen as a Creative Director you will occupy one of the most elite roles in the company and you will work closely with Jimmy Donaldson and a small group of talented creatives and producers on all phases of the creative development, production and editing process. This is a very demanding role that requires your heavy involvement and ownership at every step of the video creation process with a focus on five areas:
CTR/Analytics
Understanding Youtube data and what it tells you about:
- Video retention
- Title choices
- Thumbnail decisions
- Video Composition
- Commercial message (ad) placement
- Viewing behavior (how people think and react to components of a video)
Writing
- Think Big! You are highly creative and are drawn to thinking differently ie – with zero parameters: “infinite time and budget.”
- And yet you have the ability to see beyond your own ideas (able to check your ego)
- You are a perfectionist and have obsessively high standards – ie you want your viewers to think “there is no way I can go to bed tonight without watching this video.”
- You are confident enough to make big, high profile decisions yet humble enough that you can take feedback without wilting.
Creative Producing
- You make a huge impact as it requires the most critical decision-making in the video development effort
- Ask yourself: How can we make great decisions in production that don’t undermine creative? You need to know when small compromises will turn a video concept into mush.
Directing
Where the magic happens
- A high wire act that requires mastery of all of the creative skills – analytics, writing, creative problem solving, understanding the camera and envisioning post.
- You are aware that something will always fail but you have the confidence and clarity to solve it right then and there – even if it means a rewrite.
- You also have the wherewithall to call an audible during a multi million shoot and then convince everyone why its right and then motivate them to execute.
- And you can do this without alienating people and losing your cool.
Post
Data + Story = Virality
Can you take what’s been shot and view it through a data lens? If so, you get virality. In order to build the most viewed videos on the planet, you have to be obsessed with every detail. In post, it’s about lining up the creative elements, brainstorming the story and respecting the data. And it’s the process of toggling back and forth, between ideas and data that leads to something great. Videos that will motivate millions to watch.
What else?
At MrBeast, character matters
We believe that character, values and work ethic are just as important as anything else in predicting success. If you are analytical, resourceful, relentless and a perfectionist. If you are willing to do things that have never been done before. If you believe that the harder you work, the luckier you get. If you are intelligent, coachable and able to check your ego and if you are committed to learning, then we can show you how to make the most successful videos on Youtube.
Where you’ve been…
You have extensive experience working with Youtube obsessed creatives and/or creators in a fast paced environment – ie a film, content production, agency, brand or digital content business. You have a great understanding of digital content development, production, analytics and distribution across social platforms. You have some management experience and have great communication skills. You also have worked in a super fast paced entrepreneurial place where you had the opportunity to learn lots of stuff and so you know a little bit about everything. As a result you can manage timelines and budgets – and you can multitask with the best of them.
You likely have experience creating and building video for:
- A digital (social) agency
- A public relations agency
- An influencer agency
- A digital media agency
- Another YouTube channel
- An existing creator or creator tea
- A social media platform
- Digital production company
Other stuff you’ll need:
- 5+ Years of real deal, successful video creative development and production experience where you’ve produced or helped produce videos with huge views
- Super strong understanding of Youtube analytics as well as 3rd party tools
- You “get” social platform monetization – ie how the “algo” works
- You’ve had the opportunity to manage a team – and they liked you!
- You’ve been told you are skilled at simplifying and solving real-world business problems
- You love creators and have worked with enough to understand what drives them
- You are passionate about the MrBeast mission and above all else, want to see the Mr Beast brand succeed.
