POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Videographer/Editor position requires skills in a high-volume production environment specializing in the final storytelling of a project. This position is primarily responsible for assisting in the filming and editing process for company video projects.  This position requires a diverse knowledge of industry standard types of cameras and production equipment along with basic Avid editing skills.  They will work closely with the Producers, Videographers and Editors on staff to ensure projects are completed on time and with the highest technical and aesthetic standards. They are responsible for maintaining the company’s production assets and working with the department production calendar so that equipment is ready for each project.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support production staff with variety of projects using production gear including various models of cameras, lenses, tripods, and other gear related to shooting.
  • Work with Production team to build sets for production needs.
  • Assist with general duties.
  • Maintaining production equipment before and after projects.
  • Coordinate the tracking of all production assets.
  • Assist with research and ordering of equipment.
  • Support with reporting and tracking maintenance and repairs of production equipment.
  • Ingest media into company’s archiving system and prepare media for Editors.
  • Log footage and edit basic to intermediate level projects.
  • Operate additional cameras as needed for production needs including live events.
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

 

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Minimum college or trade school experience in production or similar field..
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of practical field experience working in multiple aspects of film and video production.
  • Color grading at intermediate level.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Thorough understanding of fishing, hunting, and other outdoor skills as required to best work with production team in outdoor recreation company.
  • Strong work ethic. Outgoing personality with ability to interact within group of creative individuals in a dynamic and constantly changing environment. Willingness to react with short notice to changes in daily routine.
  • Willing to travel as required – often locations require extensive driving and multiple night stays with early and late hours.
  • Strong communication skills – able to understand direction and make themselves understood when communicating objectives for accomplishing story lines or goals of a production.
  • Thorough knowledge of Avid non-linear editing systems, specifically the Avid Media Composer or similar.
  • Strong working knowledge of various codecs, containers and file types used in today’s media environment.
  • Able to work within a team environment including in the field or studio and in the post process, editing and finishing.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy equipment in variety of terrain and conditions from very hot to very cold.
  • Good driving record, able to secure Missouri Operator’s License Class E.
  • Good organizational skills: able to keep multiple projects balanced at any one time
  • Strong video resume required.  This resume should demonstrate samples from all of the areas mentioned above.

  • 25-30%

Silver Dolphin Books & Studio Fun International, the children’s publishing imprints of the Printers Row Publishing Group, are seeking an Editor to join a high-performing, dynamic, and innovative team dedicated to creating engaging novelty, licensed, and educational titles for children ages 0-12. This hybrid role, based in San Diego with three days in-office and two remote days, offers the opportunity to shape and oversee projects from concept through approval to print, hire and oversee freelance writers, and collaborate across editorial, production, and design teams in a very fast-paced, creative environment. Reporting to the Vice President and Publisher of PRPG, the Editor will help drive the development of books that delight and inspire young readers while maintaining the highest standards of quality and excellence.

What You Will Be Doing: 

  • Oversee and assist in the development, planning, and execution of Silver Dolphin and Studio Fun books (approximately 35 titles per year),managing projects from launch through approval to print.
  • Edit, proofread, and fact-check books ranging from board books for toddlers to movie-based novelty titles to book-plus fiction and nonfiction titles for middle-schoolers, ensuring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Write up to 8–10 manuscripts per year.
  • Write back cover and marketing copy.
  • Hire and oversee freelance writers.
  • Communicate with production, editorial, and design teams during all phases of development, proactively identifying issues and applying strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot, including reviewing cover concepts, layouts, and overall book design.
  • Attend weekly production and scheduling meetings and communicate the status of each title related to the schedule, changes to format, and art or design concerns.
  • Maintain accuracy of all information related to titles in the title management database.
  • Upload materials in an organized and timely fashion to online approval systems for licensed titles; experience with licensing is a plus.
  • Prepare title cost sheets to ensure projects are profitable by examining specs and budgets.
  • Manage author, licensor, and packager correspondence with a high degree of organization and professionalism.
  • Be comfortable presenting titles and updates clearly in meetings and to internal stakeholders.
  • Follow established processes for book development, including schedule adherence, routing passes, and reviewing key information with a high degree of organization.
  • Collaborate and brainstorm with a larger creative team while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
  • Ensure all titles meet PRPG’s standard of quality and artistic excellence.
  • Other duties may be assigned, directed, or requested.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is required.
  • Four (4) to seven (7) years of relevant editorial or publishing experience is preferred.
  • Experience with licensed publishing is preferred.
  • Experience with graphic novels is preferred.
  • Strong to advanced experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong editing and developmental editing skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a very fast-paced environment.
