New Lawsuit Demands Actors Get Paid Minimum Wage

New lawsuit is pushing for actors to get paid minimum wage.

You would assume that any job will pay you minimum wage for your work. But, according to a new lawsuit, many actors are getting paid less than a McDonald’s fry cook.

According to Deadline, there’s a plan to make small Los Angeles theaters pay actors minimum wage. And the first step in this plan to increase wages for actors is by taking it to court.

Last October, theater owners filed a lawsuit against Actors’ Equity seeking to overturn the union’s decision to force small theaters in Los Angeles to pay actors minimum wage. According to Deadline, Under current rules and regulations, many small theaters pay actors as little as $7 a day. According to the lawsuit, local theater owners argue that the union’s minimum wage will force many theaters to close down.

Act for Food

There were once mediated negotiations to fix the issue. However, after several failed negotiations, the lawsuit is moving forward. And the union says the matter will now have to be decided in court. “While we are disappointed that this dispute will enter the courtroom, Equity intends to vigorously defend itself against the meritless lawsuit and will file an immediate motion to dismiss,” the union said in a statement.

The cost of living in Los Angeles is already extremely expensive and for actors who are struggling from one production to the next, it’s sad to think that theaters will not pay their talent a reasonable living wage. We may complain about McDonald’s or Wal-Mart  employees getting paid $15/an hour but, it is unfathomable to believe that an actor will only get paid $7 a day.

Scarlett Johansson is the highest grossing actress of all time.

After coming in second place behind Jennifer Lawrence as the world’s highest paid actress last year, Scarlett Johansson is now Hollywood’s new box-office leading lady. According to Box Office Mojo, the 31-year-old actress is the highest grossing actress of all time. In fact, all of her movies have made more than $3.3 billion worldwide.

This will most likely have to do with the fact that she plays Black Widow in several Marvel feature films including Captain America: Civil War and The Avengers. However, she’s also known for other roles such as The Jungle Book. 

In comparison to male actors, Scarlett Johansson is also in the top 10 alongside Harrison Ford, Samuel Jackson, Tom Hanks, and Robert Downey Jr.

Cameron Diaz landed at No. 13 with $3 billion in revenue, Helena Bonham Carter came in at No. 26, Cate Blanchett snagged the No. 29 spot, followed by Julia Roberts at No. 30.

Samuel L. Jackson wants you to know his Star Wars character is still alive.

Samuel L. Jackson wants you to know that his character in the Star Wars franchise is not dead. Jackson played Jedi Master Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, a member of the Jedi High Council who was apparently killed after having his hand cut off by Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) and being shocked by Senator Palpatine’s Force. But, according to Samuel L. Jackson, that’s not what really happened. While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Jackson explained “Jedi can fall from amazing distances. And there’s a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?”

So why have we not seen Samuel L. Jackson since that scene? Jackson argues that his character has been laying low. The actor went on to say that he had shared his theory with Star Wars creator George Lucas. “George doesn’t have anything to do with it anymore,” he said, but gave his approval to the idea. “George is like, ‘I’m okay with that. You can be alive,'” he said.

I think a Mace Windu origin story, similar to the Han Solo movie, would be a great addition to the Star Wars franchise.

Bryan Cranston: I’m Open to Appearing in ‘Better Call Saul’

Bryan Cranston may reappear in a episode of Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spin-off.

The Breaking Bad star in a recent interview on the Rich Eisen Show said if he were asked to appear in AMC’s Better Call Saul, a prequel spinoff to Breaking Bad, he would do it. His decision is solely based on his life of both shows’ creator Vince Gilligan, who saw him for more than his dad character in Malcolm in the Middle.

“I owe Vince Gilligan so much. He was my champion to get this role,” Cranston told Eisen. “If they (Gilligan and writer Peter Gould) were to call me and say, ‘We have this idea, we’d like … ,’ I would say, ‘Yes, you don’t have to finish the pitch. I’m there, what do you want me to do?’”

Cranston pointed out that if he did appear it would be “unique.”

“I know how careful they are and how proprietary they are with those characters,” Cranston said. “It would be something obscure, unique and creative.”

Cranston added, “I’m debating whether I want to or not because I am a fan of the show,” Cranston said. “In order to direct, I need to know what no fan knows … and there’s a part of me that says that would kind of kill it for me as a fan to peek behind the curtain, so I don’t know if I am or not.”

Better Call Saul, starring Bob Odenkirk as James Morgan “Jimmy” McGill or Saul Goodman, premiered last year and was renewed for a third season a few months ago.

Theater Shows R-Rated ‘Sausage Party’ Trailer Before ‘Finding Dory’

California movie theater shows R-rated Sausage Party movie trailer to kids before Finding Dory.

In the trailer for the new Seth Rogen movie Sausage Party there’s several scenes about food and the humans that eat them, a talking Twinkie that says, “Once you see that sh*t, it’ll f*ck you up for life,” and other graphic scenes. Ironically, the computer animated movie trailer was shown before a screening of Finding Dory to a crowd of children.

The mistake occurred at the Brenden Concord 14 in Concord, California, earlier this month. “Playing that trailer was a one-time honest mistake by a theater manager moving screens around in effort to accommodate several large last-minute groups wanting to see Dory,” said Walter Eichinger, Brenden’s VP of operations, in a statement. “The wrong movie was started by mistake… It was caught soon, but not until the trailer played. We regret it, apologize for it, and we are not happy that it happened.”

This sounds extremely traumatizing for any kid. I’m still traumatized by The Lion King.

According to the New Orleans film commission, 20th Century Fox film producers are hiring crew members to work on the new movie. Plot details are unknown at this time, but the film will be the third solo vehicle for Logan/Wolverine (Jackman) in the X-Men film series. Director James Mangold has said he is looking at Wolverine comic book story lines for inspiration, including “Old Man Logan.”

YouTube Star Allegedly Faked Hate Crime for YouTube Views

Calum McSwiggan was arrested following a “hate crime” that allegedly never happened.

YouTube is an amazing platform that allows people to make money off of the video content they create. This is an amazing idea, allowing for anyone to basically film their life and reap the benefits. However, some people push the moral and ethical limits of what they post on YouTube. In fact, some people may do about anything including beating themselves up and calling it a hate crime.

Calum McSwiggan is a popular YouTuber, who makes video content like “Straight Guys See My Nudes,” “Gay Guys Embarrassing Sex Secrets,” and “Gay Love Story: My Hot Australian Boyfriend.”

On Tuesday, he uploaded a photo to Instagram saying that he was recovering from a hate crime. “The authorities should have been there to help and protect me but instead they treated me like a second class citizen,” he captioned a photo of himself bandaged in a hospital bed. “With three broken teeth and six stitches in my forehead, I’ve never felt so terrified to be a gay man in the public eye.”

However, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that deputies responded to the scene of the alleged hate crime early Monday and “were unable to substantiate the assault.” In fact, they said McSwiggan “had no visible injuries” when he was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Monday “after deputies observed him vandalizing a car.” He was charged with vandalism with property damage greater than $400 and held on $20,000 bail.

“Mr. McSwiggan’s booking photo was taken prior to deputies seeing Mr. McSwiggan injuring himself,” according to the sheriff’s department statement. The photo shows no visible injuries.

To add insult to injury, McSwiggan “was then observed injuring himself with the handle and receiver to a payphone” alone inside his jail cell at the West Hollywood Station. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

Another YouTuber, Riyadh Khalif, who attended the club with McSwiggan but didn’t witness the attack, tweeted that the attackers “knew where we were going to be because of our posts on social media before we went out and even said our names as they beat him.”
