Chronicle’s Josh Trank to Direct ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off

Chronicle’s Josh Trank will direct a Stand-Alone Star Wars Movie

While J. J. Abrams is working on Star Wars: Episode VII, a whole new trilogy of Star Wars films set three decades after the Empire and Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi, two other spin-off movies are also in the works.

The 30-year old director Josh Trank has been on fire ever since Chronicle. Trank has been mentioned in several sci-fi production ever since Chronicle. Now, in addition to his Fantastic Four reboot for FOX, Disney has announced that he will be directing one of the stand-alone Star Wars movies.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy states:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”

Josh Trank adds:

“The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.” [press release, via Latino Review]

Josh Trank will join Godzilla filmmaker Gareth Edwards in directing the Star Wars spin-off movies.

Josh Trank will be busy in the future taking a new version of The Fantastic Four, starring Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell. The Fantastic Four film hits theaters June 19th, 2015, and it seems unlikely Trank will be around for a sequel. His work on the next Star Wars spin-off would most likely begin right away, although no release date has been set.

Several designers refused to make Melissa McCarthy an Oscar dress.

You would assume that fashion designers would be dying to dress one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood. Fashion designers get guaranteed red-carpet screen time, magazine coverage, and the ability to increase future sales. But, I guess that is not always the case.

Two years ago, Melissa McCarthy asked “five or six” designers to make her a dress and they all refused.

McCarthy discusses what happened in Redbook this month and since the incident she is considering opening her own line of plus-size clothing.

“Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers—very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people—and they all said no.”

The event would probably have taken place after McCarthy’s break out role in Bridesmaids, so she was famous enough for a designer to produce a dress for her.

At the end of the day she found designer Daniela Kurrle, who made her dress for this year’s Golden Globes and several others.

Melissa McCarthy added her opinion of the current fashion industry.

I don’t understand why if you’re a certain size, designers think your taste level goes down and you have less money to spend. The quality and construction is often so bad. Finding a great t-shirt or a great cigarette pant in a good fabric is next to impossible. Plus-size clothes are often really cheap and either look young or incredibly old.

‘Project Runway’ for Teens is Coming to the Lifetime Network

Lifetime is making a Project Runway for teens

Executives over at Lifetime, Television for Women, have given the greenlight for several new reality shows, including a new teenage version of Project Runway called Threads. 

The new television will be a competition that “follows teens and tween fashion designers showcasing their talents”. The TV series will be co-hosted by Christian Siriano, Project Runway alumni, and actress Vanessa Simmons, Rev Run‘s daughter.

The series joins newly greenlighted series Born in the Wild, about having a natural childbirth in the wild. In addition to, Girlfriend Intervention, a makeover show; and Kosher Soul, following hip-hop tastemaker O’Neal McKnight and his fiancee, celebrity stylist Miriam Sternoff.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lifetime has put into development three unscripted projects. One production is  a dental extreme makeover show, Smile, a hair stylist reality competition series, Worst Stylist Ever, and Ugly Models, a docu-series from Gene Simmons and Real World veteran Jon Murray.

“As we continue to raise the bar across all of our programming, unscripted is playing an important role in placing Lifetime in the cultural zeitgeist and introducing the network to the next generation of our viewers,” said Rob Sharenow, executive vp and general manager at Lifetime. “With larger-than-life characters and never-before-seen worlds, each of these projects will push our boundaries and strengthen our position as a leader in the unscripted space.”

Darren Aronofsky in Development for “MaddAddam” TV Series for HBO

The critically acclaimed director, Darren Aronofsky is currently in development for a dystopic “MaddAddam” book series for HBO.

The director of thought provoking movies such as Requiem for a Dream, Noah, Pi and Black Swan will executive produce the TV version of Margaret Atwood‘s triology via his Protozoa Pictures company.

After signing a deal with HBO in January, Darren Aronofsky has come out with his first new production. The “Black Swan” director will executive produce the production based off of Margaret Atwood’s “MaddAddam” trilogy, according to Vulture.

The MaddAddam trilogy is a fictional series that centers on a world in which corporations have replaced government and the world is nearly eliminated by a biological plague called “The Flood”.

According to The Wrap, Aronofsky is also considering the possibility of directing the production. He will executive produce the production alongside his future wife, Brandi-Ann Milbrandt, who brought the production to Aronofsky’s production company.

Based on Darren Aronofsky‘s previous productions this TV series looks like it may be a hit especially, if Aronofsky plans to direct the production. The visual imagery in ‘Requiem for a Dream‘ and ‘Black Swan‘ is amazing. If you have not already, check out his early work in the movie ‘Pi‘.

“Ride Along 2” Starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube Acting Auditions Casting Call

The “Ride Along” sequel, “Ride Along 2” is now holding acting auditions for speaking roles in the movie filming in Atlanta and Miami.

The Universal Pictures film will start shooting this summer in Miami and Atlanta. Miami Talent Casting and Miami area casting directors are accepting submissions for various speaking and other small roles in the new feature film.

“Ride Along 2” centers on Kevin Hart and Ice Cube as a security guard and Atlanta cop who just finished solving a major crime in Atlanta.

“Ride Along 2” will start filming in Miami in July. The feature film will be directed by Tim Story and written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.

“Ride ALong 2” will feature Kevin Hart, Tika Sumpter and Ice Cube. Ice Cube will also be producing the project along with Will Packer, Matt Alvarez and Larry Brezner.

“Ride Along 2” is set to hit theaters on Friday, January 15, 2016.

“Loomis Fargo” Starring Zach Galifianakis and Owen Wilson Extras Casting Call

“Loomis Fargo” starring Zach Galifianakis and Owen Wilson posted a casting call seeking extras in North Carolina.

The movie centers on the 1997 Loomis Fargo warehouse robbery that occurred in Charlotte, North Carolina where a night guard at an armored car company organizes one of the biggest bank heists in history.

Galifianakis plays a disgruntled armored car driver who teams up with a pretty co-worker and a group of inexperienced criminals to steal nearly $20 million from a bank vault. The thieves leave a trail of evidence as they go on an excessive spending spree buying mansions, sports cars and boats. To add insult to injury, the driver’s team double-cross him and leave him alone on the run in Mexico while they live the good life in the United States.

Danny McBride and Jody Hill from Eastbound & Down will executive produce the project alongside Kevin J. Messick.

Boaz Yakin from Remember the Titans will direct the film.

Filming is taking  place in Charlotte and surrounding areas this spring and summer.

Casting directors are seeking men of Middle Eastern, Persian, Afghani, Indian descents (or those that can pass as such) to portray Afghani Villagers.

The Clintons Binge Watched ‘House of Cards’ Together

Regardless of what side of the aisle you may sit on in terms of politics, everyone can enjoy an entertaining movie or television show. That’s why it was surprising to see Hillary Clinton speak so candidly about the Netflix Original Series, ‘House of Cards‘.

Hillary Clinton did an interview with People magazine about becoming a grandmother and having additional free time after she stepped down as Secretary of State. But, it was interesting for her to comment that she and Bill Clinton binged-watched House of Cards together.

Clinton provided a glimpse into her life as a private citizen these past 16 months, even dishing on organizing her closets and binge-watching TV.

“Oh, that was good, too,” she said, describing a little self-consciously how she and her husband Bill “totally binge-watched” the first season of House of Cards. Part of the appeal, she explained, was “a little bit of the, ‘Oh, my gosh, I can’t believe we can just sit here and do this’ and ‘We’re only going to watch one episode, oh, let’s watch another. Okay, well, we have time, we’re not going anywhere, let’s watch a third.’ I know that sounds kind of devoid of content.”

We can only imagine if they felt any similarities in the government they experienced and the one they watched on television. Either way, production for Season 3 of House of Cards is heating up and after a long battle between the production company and the state of Maryland, production is getting started this summer.

Casting directors are now casting for extras and speaking roles in the movie, including a new “NSA director” role.

We can only wait what the next season of House of Cards holds in store for us. Just sit in comfort knowing that the Clinton’s are impatiently waiting to see what happens next.

Woman Gets Divorce After Husband Doesn’t Like Disney Frozen Movie

The Academy Award winner for Best Animated Feature and Song has been one of the most loved and lucrative Disney movies ever made, Disney’s Frozen can now add that they have caused a divorce.

According to the Japanese website, The Gravesite of Married People, a 29-year old woman is now seeking divorce because her husband did not like Frozen.

After telling her ‘I didn’t really care for it personally,’ he apparently left their six-year marriage in tatters by asking his wife: ‘Did you really think it was that good?’

She furiously responded: ‘If you can’t understand what makes this movie great, there’s something wrong with you as a human being!’ before telling him she wanted a divorce. (Via Metro)

Divorce seems a little bit extreme. But, maybe he never wanted to build a snowman.

Rihanna New Perfume Poster Considered Too Sexy

A watchdog group in the U.K has announced that new Rihanna poster is too sexy for children.

The Advertising Standards Authority, claims a poster advertisement featuring Rihanna should be restricted to places where it cannot be seen by children, because it is too sexual.

The ASA is “the UK’s independent regulator of advertising across all media,” including marketing online, said the photo was too “sexually suggestive.”

The poster seen below is an advertisement for her new perfume Rogue. Parlux Fragrances, the company behind the poster says the poster has no nudity and does not offer anything offensive, suggestive or demeaning.

The ASA accepted Rihanna was mainly covered and had a facial expression “of defiance rather than vulnerability”. But it also said: “While we did not consider the image to be overtly sexual, we considered that Rihanna’s pose, with her legs raised in the air, was provocative.

“Because of this, and the fact that Rihanna appeared to be naked except for high heels, we concluded that the ad was sexually suggestive and should have been given a placement restriction to reduce the possibility of it being seen by children.”

According to Daily Mail, Parlux Fragrances believes that Rihanna’s provocative style is what the company was trying to capture in the poster and it does not meet the criteria for placement restriction.

Parlux Fragrances said they had received no other complaints, adding that Rihanna was known for her provocative songs and persona, which the advert sought to capture. The company said it had done so without featuring improper nudity or offensive or suggestive imagery, adding that the majority of women would not consider the photo of Rihanna demeaning.

Rather, they claim, Rihanna is depicted as being in a position of power, as indicated by the name Rogue, which the company claims suggests ‘one with the courage to challenge boundaries’.

At the end of the day, this works in the benefit of Rihanna as she is able to capture free publicity for her new perfume.

Game of Thrones Author Adding Another Book, Expect More HBO Episodes

HBO ‘Game of Thrones’ just may have gotten longer

George R.R. Martin’s editor Anne Groell mentioned in an interview that while A Song of Ice and Fire, the series Game of Thrones  is based on, has long been planned and under contract as a seven book series, there might be enough material for a total of eight books.

More books means more Game of Thrones episodes!

I begin to wonder — though 7 is what we currently have under contract. I remember when he called me, years and years back, to confess that his little trilogy was … well … no longer a trilogy. He predicted four books. I said Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Then he said five books. I said Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Then he went to six. I said … Well, you get it. Finally, we were on the same page. Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Good. Only, as I recently learned while editing THE WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE (another awesome thing you must buy when it comes out!), there are really technically eight kingdoms, all having to do with who has annexed what when Aegon the Conqueror landed in Westeros. So, maybe eight books for Seven Kingdoms would be okay. Also, he has promised me that, when he finally wraps this great beast us, I can publish the five page letter outlining the bare bones of the “trilogy.” [Variety]

Hopefully, the next book will be entertaining. I would hope it is not just another excuse to make a few extra dollars off of die hard fans.

Justin Bieber Uses N-Word and KKK Joke in New Video

Everything was really funny when Justin Bieber was telling jokes earlier this week, until he said the N-word. A clip of Bieber saying the N-word was recently released by The Sun.

The clip highlights Bieber singing theses lyrics…”One Less Lonely Girl to One Less Lonely N*****.

Immediately after using the word nigger, Bieber jokes about joining the Klu Klux Klan.

The New York Daily News points out that it’s unclear when the video was filmed, but it seems to be after Bieber was signed by Scooter Braun — though still a young star on the rise.

“Unfortunately this is the devastating reality of how Justin has behaved and reveals his attitude toward such a deeply emotive subject,” a source told the Sun.

“People need to see this. Normal kids in society do not make these kind of jokes. He is protected by a network of staff, but the camera doesn’t lie. This is the real Justin.”

What is more shocking is that the video was taking during the time Justin Bieber was being mentored by Usher. According to TMZ, Justin Bieber “knew almost immediately it was a stupid thing to do. Usher took him into a room and shoed him historically racist videos to drive home how hurtful thsee words can be used.

“Bieber and his team say various people have tried to extort him over the last few years — demanding money for both this video and the one he made when he was 15.  Justin says he will not be shaken down anymore. He says he wants people to see the video and he wants to accept responsibility.”

Justin Bieber recently apologized for his previous video:

“As a kid, I didn’t understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt. I thought it was ok to repeat hurtful words and jokes, but didn’t realize at the time that it wasn’t funny and that in fact my actions were continuing the ignorance. Thanks to friends and family I learned from my mistakes and grew up and apologized for those wrongs. Now that these mistakes from the past have become public I need to apologize again to all those I have offended. I’m very sorry. Five years ago I made a reckless and immature mistake and I’m grateful to those close to me who helped me learn those lessons as a young man. Once again…. I’m sorry.”

TMZ reported that someone approached Justin’s reps two months ago with the video, demanding $1 million or it would be leaked to the press. Justin Bieber’s reps didn’t accept the offer, the price was dropped to $800,000. Then one week ago, they were approached yet again with the video, this time with a $500,000 offer and Justin’s reps still said no.  “Bieber’s people wouldn’t make the deal because they didn’t think the tape was that harmful … especially because Bieber was 15 years old when he told the racist joke,” said TMZ.

LeVar Burton Releases New Reading Rainbow Theme Song

The wildly successful Kickstarter campaign for ‘Reading Rainbow’ may not have been the best idea for LeVar Burton.

With Reading Rainbow having enough money to buy several islands, and enough cash to reBoot, LeVar Burton went to Funny or Die for help producing the beloved show’s new theme song.

That may have been a huge mistake. While the new song starts off the same, things start to get dark really quick and soon you see a disturbing preview of LeVar Burton‘s true intentions, to take over the world of books. That poor butterfly had no chance.

LeVar Burton recently launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to bring Reading Rainbow to every child, everywhere through the expansion of the Reading Rainbow tablet app that he and RRRKidz developed following the show’s cancellation 5 years ago. The original goal was to raise $1 million dollars, but, with 28 days still remaining for the campaign, it has already raised nearly $3.5 million.

‘Insurgent’ Movie Casting Call for New Extra Roles in Atlanta

The Divergent sequel, ‘Insurgent’ posted a casting call seeking extras in Atlanta, Georgia.

‘Insurgent’ centers on Beatrice Prior as she must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance which threatens to tear her society apart.

‘Insurgent’ features  Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Miles Teller. The upcoming ‘Divergent’ sequel will be directed by Robert Schwentke

The upcoming production has been code-named “Mineral” in order to protect the production of the feature film.

Insurgent will hit theaters on March 20, 2015. The release date for Allegiant is March 18, 2016.

CL Casting is currently looking for men and women in their 40’s to 70’s for featured extra roles in the movie. In addition, casting directors are looking for African American actors in Atlanta. Fittings are scheduled for this or next week.
