North Carolina Senate agrees on decreasing the State’s TV and Film production tax credits.
The North Carolina state Senate voted on Thursday to approve a decreased form of the state’s film tax incentive.
The new tax incentive would decrease funding for the program by two-thirds, according to Deadline.
Currently, North Carolina‘s production credit has been accused of being abused by production companies and Gov. Pat McCrory has called for deep cuts in the program.
On Thursday, the State Senate approved a proposal that would turn the incentives program into a grant program and reduce the state’s funding of the program from $60 million to $20 million.
But, before North Carolina eliminates their production tax credit, the new program will have to be passed in the state’s House of Representatives.
The MPAA‘s SVP of Government Affairs, Vans Stevenson commented on the recent Senate vote expressing his pleasure in state incentives.
“We are grateful the Senate has recognized the importance of motion picture and television production jobs in North Carolina by voting to give preliminary approval to continue a production incentive program.”
We remain hopeful that the North Carolina House of Representatives, with its bipartisan bill, will work together with their Senate colleagues and the governor to reach agreement on a competitive, sustainable incentive program thereby ensuring motion picture and television production in North Carolina remains a catalyst for job growth and significant economic development in the state into the future.”
According to the MPAA, the film and TV industry is accountable for more than 12,000 jobs in the state including more than 3,000 production jobs and more than $538 million in wages from production and distribution-related jobs.

Hollywood Actress, Evan Rachel Wood Sued for Quitting a Movie During Production
Nearly after a year and a half after Evan Rachel Wood allegedly backed out of 10 Things I Hate About Life, the producers are suing the actress for more than $30 million.
10 Things Film LLC filed a breach of written agreement and breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing complaint in LA Superior Court against Wood and her company, according to Deadline.
“Plaintiff has suffered significant and extensive damages and financial harm, including, but not limited to, the loss of, at a minimum, $6,000,000.00 in equity investments, costs and related expenses in the Picture financing costs and expenses in the amount of, at a minimum, $500,000.00, lost profits in the amount of, at a minimum, $20,000,000.00 and additional general and special damages in the amount of $5,000,000.00,” said the producers in their 10-page complaint (read it here).
Hours after the producers filed the lawsuit, Evan Rachel Wood reps responded calling the lawsuit “preposterous”. Evan Rachel Wood claimed that the movie was never made because they ran out of money and not because Wood left the movie. Here’s the full response:
“The lawsuit is preposterous and simply a bullying tactic from financially troubled producers. The production shut down in February 2013 when the producers ran out of money. Even after that, Evan agreed to resume production in Nov. 2013 by which time the producers said they would have cleared up their issues. However, the producers still could not get their act together, nor did they pay Evan money that was owed. Repeated subsequent promises by the producers to resume production and pay Evan also turned out to be false. Enough is enough. The producers, not Evan, have breached contract.”
“10 Things I hate About Life” centers on a couple who meet while each is attempting to commit suicide. Filming started on January 14 and after four weeks of shooting, the production was shut down. Filming was to begin again on February 8, 2013. At that point in time, the actress said she will be unable to start filming until November 2013. After talks, Wood said she no longer wanted to do the movie.

Game of Thrones’ Mountain Played the Hulk at a 3-Year-Old’s Birthday Party
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is terrifying in person on Game of Thrones. But, he is way nicer offscreen. When he is not destroying people in strongman competitions, the 6’9 athlete finds time to dress up as the Hulk to terrify and entertain little kids.
It was this 3-year-old’s biggest birthday wish to meet The Hulk, so Björnsson arrived who had never acted before Game of Thrones-agreed to have himself airbrushed green to play the role.
Unfortunately, his performance was a little too realistic for the birthday boy.

HBO’s new movie “Blue Goose Hollow” starring Queen Latifah is holding a casting call in Atlanta, Georgia.
“Blue Goose Hollow” will center around Bettie Smith’s life and music. Smith was one of the biggest blues singers in the 1920′s and 1930′s. Her nickname was ‘The Empress of The Blues’. Her career took a hit during the Great Depression, and as she was trying to make a comeback, she lost her life due to a major car accident.
The movie will be directed and written by Dee Rees, the director of the Pariah. Latifah will star as Smith, and her production company Flavor Unit will produce alongside the Zanuck Company, Shelby Stone Productions, and HBO.

Comedy Central’s TV Pilot ‘Duty’ posted a casting call seeking high school students in Atlanta.
‘Duty‘ centers on a Kyle (Mike O’Gorman) a former football star who loses everything and is forced to start anew by moving back to his hometown and take a job at the local police force opposite his childhood best friend Lonnie (Gil Ozeri).
‘Duty‘ hails from creator/executive producer David Caspe, writers Matthew and Daniel Libman, executive producer Jamie Tarses and studio Sony Pictures Television.
Marinella Hume casting posted a casting call for extras to play high school students in an upcoming scene in the Comedy Central TV Pilot. Casting directors are looking for 18 year olds that look 15 to 16 years old. Producers are looking for people to play jocks, mean girls, math and science club members, band camp, etc.

Paramount is looking to rejoin Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell in “Daddy’s Home”.
Paramount is currently in development on “Daddy’s HOme” starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell in the Gary-Sanchez production.
The movie is expected to be directed by Sean Anders and John Morris, directors of We’re The Millersand Horrible Bosses 2.
“Daddy’s Home” was originally planned to feature Vince Vaughn alongside Will Ferrell. But, plans fell through. Now, Mark Wahlberg is set to join the cast and crew of the feature film after finishing Transformers: Age of Extinction for Paramount.
The movie was written by Brian Burns, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy and Cohen. The movie centers on Will Ferrell as a mild-mannered radio executive who tries to become the best stepdad ever to his wife’s two children. J.J. Abrams Responds to ‘Star Wars’ Set Leaks on Twitter
In response to several leaked set photos of what appears to be the Millenium Falcon and the X-Wing on Tuesday, Star Wars: Episode VII director J.J. Abrams tweeted this photo with a note to fans.
The handwritten message from the director says “I wish people would stop leaking photos from Episode VII. And making ridiculous claims that the Millenium Falcon is in the movie.”
But, at the same time it appears the note was placed carefully on top of a Dejarik (“holochess” board. Maybe it is the same one where C3P0 famously Chewbacca win in the first Star Wars movie.
