Producers are seeking the following types:

GRANDSON AND GRANDMOTHER – Seeking a real Grandson (20 years old and up) and Grandmother duo. Any ethnicity. Seeking a Grandson to apply on behalf of both, with the intention of surprising Grandmother. Must be comfortable travelling 1.5 hours to set and somewhat active (some walking, perhaps on an incline). Production will adhere to all COVID-19 safety protocols.
Grandson Rate: $500.00/day session fee (x2 days) + Buyout $2000.00. Usage: 2 year North America online and broadcast. Transportation will be provided to/from home/set. Lodging will be provided overnight.

How the Coronavirus Will Impact the Entertainment Industry

Here’s how the Coronavirus is impacting the entertainment industry.

The Coronavirus COVID-19 is changing the entertainment industry. While some of the changes may be temporary, many of the changes could be permanent. Here are some of the changes the Coronavirus is changing the film and TV industry.

#1. Virtual Auditions

The film and TV industry is quickly moving towards virtual auditions, where actors would shoot an audition from home and submit the tape online. It offered a new way to screen actors for roles and allow casting directors to record, save, and share auditions with directors, producers, and executives. For example, American Idol is moving all auditions online.

The Coronavirus is pushing the film industry faster in that direction. No longer will virtual auditions become uncommon. But expect it to become more commonplace, whereby onscreen presence and the ability to stand out among thousands of auditions will be essential for an actor’s success.

#2. Less Casting Companies and Talent Agencies

Due to fewer productions, the entertainment industry will experience a severe downturn. As a result, there will be a smaller need for casting companies to hire a ton of background actors, and there will be fewer speaking roles to avoid contaminating people with the Coronavirus. With fewer actors and entertainers getting jobs, talent agencies will begin to close down and downsize as talent agencies only get paid when their talent gets compensated. For instance, according to a Variety report, Los Angeles talent agencies are forced to pivot and downsize due to the coronavirus.

Consequently, the COVID-19 pandemic will hurt actors who do not have an established presence, since smaller talent agencies recruit unknown talent or bet on new actors without extensive acting credits.

#3. Fewer Theaters and Plays

Working on a theater requires close contact with the cast, crew, and audience. But, due to social distancing requirements, do not expect theaters to open up any time soon. Consequently, many theaters will shut their doors, and there will be fewer jobs for those interested in working in the theater industry.

A New Yorker report dived into the impact of the Coronavirus and Broadway and found “the financial impact on its makers will be incalculable.” In fact, The Actors Fund, which helps entertainment workers, received fifteen thousand requests for aid in the first three months of the pandemic and has distributed some thirteen million dollars.

#4. Fewer Actors

As talent agencies and casting companies shut down due to the economic downturn, so will aspiring actors. In Los Angeles, where many actors work in the Hospitality industry due to the flexible hours, LA’s Coronavirus outbreak is killing the industry where many aspiring actors cannot find work due to the virus. Financial problems and limited job opportunities can have a significant impact on actors and will most likely put many actors’ acting careers on hold.

For example, the Pandemic caused the entertainment industry to shutdown what is typically the biggest time of the year for aspiring actors, Pilot Season. As The Atlantic describes, “the pandemic has cut off the revenue streams they need to pay the bills: The service and hospitality industries have come to a standstill, and those who found side gigs outside those traditional categories—such as in teaching, event planning, or stand-up comedy—can’t go to work.”

There will also be a drop in the number of background actors necessary to film a TV show or movie. Post-COVID-19, large scenes featuring hundreds of background extras will become impossible to accomplish. Those jobs will most likely wipe out large cattle calls and replace background actors with technology. Engineers could develop the technology to create background actors for a scene. In turn, it limits the liability for a production company in the event someone gets the Coronavirus.

Aspiring production assistants, producers, directors, and other crew members will also start searching for new job opportunities, as the drop in productions will leave many unemployed for the foreseeable future.

Daisy Ridley Reveals “No one wants to employ me” After Star Wars

Daisy Ridley reveals the difficulties of building an acting career after appearing in Star Wars.

Daisy Ridley hit the jackpot after appear in the latest Star Wars trilogy. However, the actress struggled to find work after landing the acting job.

Ridley became a household name after playing Rey in the rebooted Star Wars movies, which ended with 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. But she found herself auditioning for roles in early 2020 and getting very few acting offers.

“Weirdly, at the beginning of the year, nothing was coming through,” Ridley told Entertainment Weekly.

“I was like, ‘Aww! No one wants to employ me’… There were actually loads of things that I auditioned for at the beginning of the year and didn’t get any of them.”

She added: “I had that moment of, ‘Oh my god!’ and then just thought, ‘Everything in its right time.'”

Ridley says she struggled for work, and then the Coronavirus Pandemic took hold of the entertainment industry and shut down everything. The COVID-19 lockdown allowed her to finally “process” exiting the franchise. “To be forced to slow down, it was good mentally for me because [Star Wars was] a big thing in my life,” she said.

Other than the Star Wars franchise, Ridley appeared in 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express and voiced a rabbit in 2018’s Peter Rabbit.

Ridley will star alongside Tom Holland in the movie Chaos Walking, which finished filming in 2017 but was forced tow hit years in development to complete reshoots due to the franchise schedules of Ridley and Holland. So far, that movie will not be released until 2021.

According to reports, George Lucas wants to direct a new, original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy. We Got This Covered reports the world-renowned filmmaker would like to develop and run it for LucasFilm. However, only under the condition, the company’s current leader Kathleen Kennedy is not involved in the project.

Lucas reportedly does not have a great relationship with Kennedy at the moment. He blames her for “ruining” the trilogy and supposedly wants to become more involved with his franchise in the future.

Why Prop Design and what will I be doing as an Art Trainee for Prop Design?

- This role will expose you to the iterative nature of animation art by offering the candidate the opportunity to stretch their imagination to create prop variations based on a production’s Art Direction.
- As a trainee you’ll be assigned to one of our shows as a full-time team member and will be mentored by one, or more, of our Netflix Animation team members to guide you with the goal of becoming a production-ready artist.
- You’ll be given the opportunity to learn about how your role fits into the overall Animation production pipeline and how to create under production-paced deadlines

ART TRAINEE PROGRAM TIMELINE:

Portfolio Submission Deadline: Open throughout 2021*
As Netflix Animation’s shows begin production at various times throughout the year, we’ll be offering multiple Trainee opportunities throughout 2021. That being the case, Trainee start dates will be determined by show need as opposed to a predetermined calendar.

WHAT NETFLIX IS LOOKING FOR:

- Emerging artists from all backgrounds who have a passion for animation and want to further hone their skills with the mentorship of Netflix Animation’s industry experts.

- A college degree or advanced education is not a requirement.

- Links to your website or other social media that demonstrate your craft in Prop Design.
  - Great art comes in many forms! If you need some ideas for how to present your prop designs, you could include rough sketches, cleaned up linework, full turnarounds, and fully colored designs.
  - Both 2D (hand-drawn, Photoshop, etc.) or CG are acceptable, but please keep in mind the majority of our productions currently underway are Traditional (2D).

- Don’t have any prop designs yet? Here’s an art prompt to help build your portfolio (optional):
  - Items found in a child’s school lunch; a sandwich (whatever you choose between two slices of bread), a piece of fruit (apple, orange, etc.), a treat (cupcake, cookie, etc.) and a container (lunch bag, bento box, etc.) but we are open to other submitted work too.
- When submitting your designs, please make sure they’re all included in a single .PDF file (multiple pages are OK!)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: When will be the deadline for submission on the Art Trainee Program?
- A: We recognize that not having an end date for our submission period may be a little different from other programs offered in the Animation community. We’re hoping to provide as many opportunities to Art Trainees as possible beginning this Fall and into 2021. We will be evaluating portfolios throughout 2021. As we strive to always be better, we will re-evaluate this methodology as the year draws to a close. When we decide on a deadline, we will communicate to applicants well in advance of those changes taking effect.
Q: When is the Start Date?
- A: Start Dates will vary depending on the needs of our productions. We will continue to send emails updating you on the status of your application throughout the year into 2021.
Q: What style should I be submitting for my application (2D or CG)?
- A: Given that Netflix Animation has no set studio look/style, we are open to all from stylistic and cartoony to more realistic. This is your opportunity to showcase your skills and unique style. Both 2D (hand drawn, Photoshop, etc.) or for CG are acceptable, but please keep in mind the majority of our productions currently underway are Traditional Animation (2D).
Q: Is this a paid position?
- A: Yes, this is a full-time, paid position.
Q: Is the Art Prompt a test?
- A: This is not a test as any artwork submitted will not be used to cast candidates for a particular role within the studio, but rather it is a way for candidates to show their creativity. We wanted to offer guidelines and context on how to submit artwork via an art prompt, in part democratizing the information for self-taught artists who may not have access to this information. Please know that the creation of unique artwork is optional and is not required.
Q: Will I receive feedback on my submission?
- A: Due to the high volume of applicants, we are unable to provide feedback at this time. However, you will be notified if you will not be moving forward in a timely manner.
Q: What are we assessing in portfolios?
- A: The technical skills we are looking for in your art consist of: perspective, shape use, appealing silhouette, cohesive shape language, clean line work, and strong draftsmanship.
Q: Will I need to relocate to Los Angeles if selected? Are relocation/housing expenses covered?
- A: Given the current state around COVID-19, all candidates will be asked to work remotely. Should this situation change, you will need to relocate to the Los Angeles area and be subject to Visa and US Immigration requirements and restrictions. Relocation/housing expenses are not covered at this time.
Q: If I get rejected, can I reapply with an updated portfolio?
- A: Yes, please do! We love seeing new art 🙂
Q: Will there more than just Prop Design offered in this Art Trainee program?
- At this time, we will only offer Prop Design Trainee opportunities.
Q: I’ve got a great idea for a film/series…can I include my pitch materials with my application?
- A: The Netflix Emerging Animation Talent program is dedicated to helping those with limited production experience to improve their skills. We totally understand and appreciate you may want to use this opportunity to submit your great ideas for a series or feature. An internet company commercial is now casting real veterans in Atlanta, Georgia and Orlando, Florida.

Casting directors are now casting actors, models, and talent to work on scenes filming in Orlando, Florida sometime between August 5th and 7th.

Producers are seeking the following types:

Casting veterans, 22-30 years old, for a confidential internet company to portray a “welcome home” scene.
