What Will the Future of Filmmaking Look Like After the Coronavirus?

What will the future of filmmaking look like in this post Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic world?

In a recent interview with Campaign Live, Tim Ayers, the CEO of Hogarth North America, a global creative production company, discusses what the new standard will look like on sets. Ayers said there is a new possibility for virtual production sets, sterilized cameras, filming inside talents’ homes, CGI, synthetic actors, and casting talent from around the world.

Ayers is working for a major company with thousands of employees across 30 different offices around the world. In the interview, he discussed how filmmaking would change for the better.

Since the Coronavirus Pandemic, productions have shutdown worldwide, and they are slowly resuming at a crawling pace. The biggest question on most sets is how people will work during the Coronavirus.

As a result of the Coronavirus, clients are using existing footage and working from home. “We’re doing a lot of language translation and using a lot of existing footage. Most brands have a wealth of creative that they’ve done over the years. It’s helping clients access that and forming the right message for this time.”

Ayers added they sent sterilized cameras into people’s homes. Talents are going to work with directors and creatives remotely so you can guide people through filmmaking.

CGI and Virtual Sets

In the interview, Ayers says the post-pandemic world will see an increase in CGI. “We will see a lot more CGI and virtual sets. It’s far less expensive. You will see technology taking a stronger seat at the table so that you’re able to shoot once and repurpose many many times.”

Synthetic Actors

He adds synthetic actors will become the future of filmmaking. “Synthetic actors. Being able to film an actor or a CEO or a brand mascot once and then translate that into 174 different languages, and you wouldn’t be able to tell that that wasn’t the person speaking in that native and language and locally relevant way. The technologies there — it’s been there for years in gaming — and now the commercial world is waking up to the idea that there are different ways to do things.”

Influencers

Ayers explained production companies are asking influencers to create content. “They are some of my favorite things to watch because the technology for the production is there for that type of thing. But that’s not going to be everything — it’s a small part of what happens. A consumer journey requires a lot of different types of assets.”

In other related news, Tyler Perry will resume production on two shows starting this July in Atlanta, Georgia following the Coronavirusshutdown.

Several weeks ago, Tyler Perry was one of the first Hollywood producers to create a plan to restart filming. Now, he is the first producer to announce start dates for his television shows. On July 8, Tyler Perry will start two BET series including ‘Sistas’ and ‘The Oval’. As a result, production will start shortly at Tyler Perry Studios.

The facility will have strict rules that include testing and keeping the cast and crew on Tyler Perry Studios’ 330-acre lot. Tyler Perry is expected to remain on the lot for the duration of the shoot along with the cast and crew. The existing homes on the former military base will provide housing for everyone working on the show.

Kim Kardashian launched SKIMS after years of cutting her own shape wear. The mother said in an interview with “Good Morning America” in February she thought of her kids when she created the business.

“If I couldn’t find shapewear that was my skin tone, what is my daughter going to find when she grows up and needs shapewear?” she said.

“So I wanted to make a variety of a shade range that I didn’t feel like was out there in the marketplace, and I’ve always worn shapewear so I just wanted to modernize it and make it a little more comfortable and more durable,” she added, noting she “put so much into it.”

Kendall Jenner Launches Mental Health Coalition with #howareyoureallychallenge

Kendall Jenner is opening up about her mental health and the “crazy panic attacks” she experienced before getting help for her anxiety.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Kendall revealed she first experienced anxiety at a young age. “I was really, really young, and I remember feeling like I couldn’t breathe and running to my mom and being like: ‘Mom, I feel like I can’t breathe. Something must be wrong,'” she said.

The model remembered her mother, Kris Jenner, “of course took me to a bunch of doctors just to make sure it was all okay physically, and I was. No one ever told me that I had anxiety.”

While the feelings of anxiety waned, she explained her concern remerged as she started her modeling career and booking modeling jobs. “Maybe like three years ago, four years ago, it came back completely full on, and I would have crazy panic attacks,” she said. “Finally, I kind of got the information that I needed about it.”

Kendall is working with Kenneth Cole for the fashion designer’s Mental Health Coalition. The duo are encouraging Instagram users to share photos about how they’re dealing with the quarantine to fight the stigma surrounding mental illness. Cole says he wants to create a safe place for people to open up about their experiences.

Kendall launched the #howareyoureallychallenge via an Instagram video posted from her home. “I have been doing a lot of thinking during quarantine, mostly about mental health,” she said in the clip. “I have good days, and I have some really anxious days.”

Kendall nominated her sister Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber to join the challenge.

Kim Kardashian said via her Instagram Stories about her struggle with anxiety. “I find myself to be a really mentally strong person, but I have been challenged during these times,” she said. “I started to get really high anxiety when I was about to have my fourth child and so that anxiety kind of came up again, having to get all my kids in school and having to take on so many tasks that I didn’t know if I had it in me to do.”

In relevant news, Google exec reveals how to socially distance and film TV shows and movies during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, Hollywood productions have shut down around the world. As a result, producers are forced to get creative.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Paul Debevec, a senior staff engineer at Google VR, reveals how producers can film scenes while socially distancing. It can be accomplished by using a 360-degree Google light stage and lighting studio.

“This could be used to record actors in 3D,” he explains is the platform he originally used at USC for the making of ‘Gravity’ starring Sandra Bullock. “You can put them into any scene, in any lighting, from any angle, even after you’ve filmed their performance. You just focus on getting the performance right and worry about where the camera goes and how to light it later.”

Study Finds 75% of People Are Willing to Go to Back to the Movies

If Coronavirus safety measures are set up, a majority of people are willing to go back to the movies.

According to an EDO moviegoer study called “Movie Theaters and Social Distancing,” 75% reported if theaters added certain safety measurements, they were more likely to return to movie theaters upon their reopening.

Safety measures important to those surveyed include:

  • Hand sanitizer stations throughout the building
  • Limited showtimes to allow for extended cleaning times between screenings
  • Cinema employees wearing facemarks
  • Employees getting temperatures checked before work
  • Attendees wearing facemarks

On a side note, 60% of those surveyed they were open to getting their temperatures taken when they go to the theater.

As we reported earlier this week, Amazon was considering acquiring AMC theaters. AMC Theaters’ stock increased 42.4% on Monday after reports Amazon was considering acquiring the company.

According to reports, Amazon and the company’s CEO Jeff Bezos are “circling” the theater company and have held talks about a “potential takeover of AMC by Amazon.” That said, there is no word if these negotiations are still active or if the deal is settled.

As a result of the report, AMC Entertainment Holdings saw their stock increase 42.7 percent on Monday morning, more than double the company’s record low close on April 13th.

The Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic had a disastrous impact on the movie theater franchise. Due to the outbreak, the company had to shut down all of their locations and putting the future of the company in jeopardy. In addition, the company announced it would stop showing Universal Pictures films in its theaters after the studio to send a few hit movies went straight to video on demand.

SAG-AFTRA Sees Many Actors “Safe-Spacing” At Home For Months

SAG-AFTRA Foundation says he sees many performers not working for a few more months due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation president Courtney B. Vance offered a message of hope during one of his weekly “fireside chats.” However, he cautioned performers should expect to stay at home for “a few more months.”

In his video message to union members, Vance says, “I know that many of you are preparing for a few more months of continued safe-spacing in your homes.”

He added, “Now, while that may not have been the timeline most of us were wishing for, I hope you’ll continue to take care of your bodies and your minds. Our health is paramount right now for getting us through this, and I hope you’ll continue to prioritize it. Remember, we’re all in this together.”

“We all have some very strong emotions right through here. We’re living in unprecedented times. In the blink of an eye, life as we knew it completely shifted – seemingly overnight. As performers, we may have more emotions than most. Now with that said, I want to encourage you all, in a safe environment, of course, to let it out. If you need to yell – yell; if you need to project – sing, monologue, dance – put it out there. Every day, if need be. Let that energy loose. Unleash your nerves, your fears, your frustrations – get rid of them. And then breathe, refocus and begin again dealing with our journey. We’re going to get through this together, one day at a time. So until next week, stay safe; stay connected, and stay home. Grace and peace.”

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s COVID-19 Relief Fund has given more than $4 million to members of SAG-AFTRA who are in dire need of assistance, “with hundreds of applications still in review. Aid is now taking less than two weeks to reach members, so we appreciate your continued patience. As always, we’re working as quickly as we can.”

This news comes after SAG-AFTRA announced members to not accept offers to take job opportunities without getting permission from the union, according to a Deadline report.

Deadline spoke to a spokesperson about the new mandate. The spokesperson explained, “This notice to members is an enforcement and organizing action which longstanding board policy authorizes staff to implement. We have heard from numerous members who were being asked to sign away their right to a safe workplace. Our contracts clearly prevent companies from abdicating their responsibility to provide a safe working environment for their employees. In such circumstances, SAG-AFTRA staff are required to take immediate effective action to enforce the contract and protect SAG-AFTRA members. Producers interested in offering work to SAG-AFTRA members can call the union to ensure they are providing a safe workplace.”

Original Post: May 16, 2020: SAG-AFTRA announces members to not accept offers to take job opportunities without getting permission from the union, according to a Deadline report.

On Thursday, SAG-AFTRA issued a safety notice saying, “In light of the COVID-19 global pandemic and the attendant high risk to the health and safety of actors returning to work in the commercials and entertainment industry, no member should return to work under an existing contract or accept a contract for new employment without first securing the approval of the union. Members must contact the union to ensure that they are accepting work that SAG-AFTRA has evaluated and established that the producer/employer has made provision for, and met adequate health and safety standards.”

Screenwriter Reveals Unmade ‘Batman vs Superman’ Movie: “it was the darkest thing you’ve ever seen”

Early 2000s Batman v Superman movie details have finally surfaced thanks to screenwriter Akiva Goldsman.

Hollywood screenwriter Akiva Goldsman opened up about the original ‘Batman v Superman’ movie, which was in development in the early 2000s and never came to fruition. Goldsman described the move as “the darkest thing you’ve ever seen.”

Zack Snyder took over the development of the movie in 2016 but, there were plans to create a movie in the early 2000s centering around Batman and Superman. Actor Colin Farrell was cast to play Batman and Jude Law was cast to play Superman. However, details about the movie never surfaced until now. Speaking to Collider, Goldsman revealed the plan was to create a “super dark” movie, but later on, the team realized the world was not ready for a dramatic superhero film.

“I wrote on…this version of Batman v Superman [around 2001 or ’02]— when Colin Farrell was cast as Batman and Jude Law was cast as Superman and Wolfgang Petersen was directing—we were in prep and it was the darkest thing you’ve ever seen,” Goldsman said. “It started with Alfred’s funeral and Bruce has fallen in love and renounced being Batman, the Joker kills his wife, and then you discover it was all a lie. Just that the love itself was constructed by the Joker to break [Bruce].”

“It was a time where you would be able to get these sorts of stories together in script form but they couldn’t quite land in the world,” he continued. “Somehow, the expectations of the object—whether they be audience or corporate or directorial—it wasn’t landing quite in the way I think we imagined when we put them on the page.”

In relevant news, the new Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson is currently on production shutdown due to the Coronavirus. The movie stopped production on March 14 after finishing nearly seven weeks of filming in London.  Warner Bros said it was taking a “two-week hiatus” due to the coronavirus pandemic.
