Now Casting: Kristen Stewart Cast to Play Princess in New Movie

Kristen Stewart will place Princess Diana in an upcoming feature film.

The upcoming drama, which is titled “Spencer”, centers around a weekend in the early 90s when Diana decides to break up with Prince Charles.

Director Pablo Larrain will direct the movie from a script written by Steven Knight and production is set to start in early 2021.

According to Variety, the new movie will center around Princess Diana during one of her final Christmas holiday vacations at the House of Windsor Sandrigham estate. Diana Frances Specer and Prince charles married in 1981. The marriage allegedly had issues and the couple separated in 1992 and the marriage ended in divorce in 1996. She later died in a traffic accident in Paris in 1997.

Stewart is best known for her roles in the “Twilight” franchise. Last year, Stewart starred in “Charlie’s Angeles”. At the time, Elizabeth Banks’ and Kristen Stewart’s reboot of the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ franchise flopped for Sony Pictures. It was the third ‘Charlie’s Angeles’ movie and tanked at the box office. The film made only $8.6 million, well below even the most modest $12 million expectations. The movie was made for approximately $48 million.

It is difficult to say what went wrong with ‘Charlie’s Angels.’ Current reviews show the movie at around 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics enjoying Kristen Stewart’s comedic acting abilities. The previous ‘Charlie’s Angels’ movie starring Drew Barrymore made $40 million.

In relevant casting news, Kristen Stewart recently wrapped production on the new movie “Happiest Season”, which filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. ‘Happiest Season’ will star Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis. The movie is set for a U.S. release on November 20, 2020, and will be directed by Clea DuVall. The movie is described as the following: “It follows a young woman (Stewart) whose plan to propose to her girlfriend (Davis) while at her family’s annual holiday party is upended when she discovers her partner hasn’t yet come out to her conservative parents.”

‘Star Wars’ Mark Hamill Will Headline Joe Biden Presidential Campaign Fundraiser

Star WarsMark Hamill to headline fundraiser for Joe Biden.

According to Deadline, ‘Star Wars’ actor Mark Hamill will headline an upcoming virtual fundraiser for Joe Biden on June 30th. It is one of several upcoming events the Biden campaign has to raise money for the political campaign.

Deadline reports Hamill will moderate a “virtual conversation about hope and democracy.” Tickets start at $500 per person and reach $100,000 for those who want to be listed as co-chairs in the virtual event. The proceeds will go towards the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

Next week, Biden will raise money with former President Barack Obama, where prices start at $15 per person.

Earlier this week the Biden Victory Fund has raised $80.9 million in May, even though the Coronavirus COVID-19 has created a paradigm shift in political fundraising campaigns. Last week, Biden held a fundraiser featuring several celebrities including John Legend, Jay Leno, Jennifer Hudson, and Barbra Streisand.

ABC’s ‘The Rookie’ Will Discuss Police Brutality and Race Next Season

ABC’s hit TV series ‘The Rookie’ will tap into the National debate surrounding police next season.

As the nation reacts George Floyd’s killing by police officers and rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, the discussion is making its way into the third season of ABC’s cop drama ‘The Rookie’s writing room.

ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke revealed in an interview that the series will reflect the issues that have sparked a discussion around police brutality and racism.

“The Rookie”, which stars Nathan Fillion as a middle-age new cop who joins the LAPD, will touch on the debate around America’s police force. It is important to note, America is retaliating to TV’s role in perpetuating the idea of police heroism and continuing black stereotypes. Since then, two reality series surrounding cops have been canceled including Paramount Network’s “Cops” and A&E’s “Live PD” have been canceled amid concerns that they contribute distorted views of law enforcement.

Burke hopes writers and producers can realistically discuss those issues.

“Our showrunner Alexi Hawley is seeking out new voices and important voices to help inform and frame the stories he is telling this season,” Burke said.

Burke added representatives from Color of Change, a consulting firm that focuses on racial diversity in the TV and film industry, will be added to the show’s writing room. Hawley also consulted Ryan Tillman, a Black police officer from the Chino Police Department and founder of Breaking Barriers United, an organization that focuses on improving relationships between police and communities.

Burke noted the show’s cast is already “diverse” and “they are going to be working to be thoughtful about the stories they are telling about those characters.”

Burke explained ABC launched an “executive incubator program” to improve diversity in the executive departments of the company.

Netflix announces the company will donate $5 million to organizations dedicated to creating opportunities for Black creators, aspiring Black content creators, and Black-owned businesses including Ghetto Film School, Black Public Media, and Colin Kaepernick Know Your Rights Camp.

The streaming company announced an initial donation of $3 million with more to come.

“Tackling racism and injustice in meaningful ways means creating long-term opportunities for the Black community,” Netflix chairman and CEO Reed Hastings said in a statement. “The main role we play is through our funding of and member viewing of important content like ‘When They See Us.’ As an additional step, today we’re committing $5 million to nonprofits dedicated to creating direct opportunities for Black creators, Black youth and Black-owned businesses.”

Hollywood Producer is Calling for a Boycott of Georgia’s Film Industry Over Voter Suppression

Hollywood producer Don Winslow is calling for a boycott of Georgia’s film industry after last week’s election.

Winslow is the author of books such as ‘The Force’ and the ‘Cartel’ trilogy. He recently optioned several of his books to studios and TV networks. But after allegations of voter suppression in Georgia, Winslow is calling for change.

According to The New York Times, Georgia’s state primary elections had a long list of problems, including malfunctioning voting machines, poorly staffed polling sites, and failure to deliver absentee ballots. But the most egregious problem was the long waiting lines in areas with predominately Black voters in comparison to white neighborhoods. Stacey Abrams discussed the issue in detail on ‘CBS This Morning’ saying “it hits everyone.”

“I will allow no film or television show based on one of my works to be shot in the state of Georgia until its government takes immediate, real and concrete steps to ensure free and fair elections and to end voter suppression,” he writes in a recent op-ed, and he’s calling on the rest of Hollywood to also stop filming in  Georgia until the problem can be addressed in a serious way.

In his article for Deadline, Winslow called Tuesday’s events “a disgraceful travesty,” and says Georgia’s Secretary of State is endangering the democracy in America.

“Over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to sell a number of my books to networks and studios for television and film adaptation. I will unequivocally state now that I will allow no film or television show based on one of my works to be shot in the state of Georgia until its government takes immediate, real and concrete steps to ensure free and fair elections and to end voter suppression,” Winslow explains.

Winslow adds, “If that means that the project is scrapped, so be it.”

“If that means that the project is scrapped, so be it.”

Winslow continues by calling for a boycott to Georgia’s film industry. “I urge my colleagues to join me in this stance. It might hurt, it might lighten our pockets. But it will also lighten our consciences. We cannot stand on the sidelines and simply comment, as well-intentioned as those comments might be.

“I truly hate to take this step. Boycotts are tricky things, double-edged swords that can sometimes injure the very people that they are trying to empower. I have nothing against the people of Georgia. I have always been treated beautifully and enjoyed any time that I’ve spent there. But something must be done.”

Winslow continues, “The people of Georgia – all the people of Georgia – must be allowed to participate fully in the political life of their state. They must be allowed to vote in free and fair elections. That is their right as Georgians, it is their right as Americans. And as Americans, we must stand up for the legitimacy of our elections.”

Winslow’s upcoming projects include ‘The Force’, which is starring Matt Damon and an FX tv adaptation of the ‘Cartel’ trilogy.

This news comes after Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced at least 75 TV shows and movies are set to film in Georgia giving at least 40,000 jobs to Georgians in the next few months.

According to the statement by Gov. Brian Kemp, an estimated 40,000 production workers will find jobs at 75 projects, which are expected to start filming over the next 18 months.

The estimate will also impact other second-line businesses including 17,000 Georgia businesses. These production companies have added a huge impact on Georgia’s economy. In fact, in 2019, nearly 400 movies and TV shows filmed in Georgia impacting 3,040 motion picture and television industry businesses.

“Production companies want to be in Georgia and create tens of thousands of jobs for workers across the state, and today’s announcement is welcome news as we continue safely reopening our state,”  Governor Kemp said. “I thank the Georgia Film Office for their work during the pandemic, and I thank the production companies who always vowed to return to Georgia when the time was right for them to safely get back to work.”
