Casting directors are now casting actors, models, and influencers to work on scenes filming in Atlanta, Georgia.

Producers are seeking and hiring the following types:

  • Background Actors
  • Photo Doubles
  • Stand-Ins

About ABC’s ‘Th Wonder Years’:

The Wonder Years’ is returning to ABC with a Black family.

The network is teaming with Lee Daniels (Empire) for a reboot of the coming-of-age comedy, which ended nearly 30 years ago.

Join Project Casting to access jobs you can apply for right now!

The comedy will receive a pilot-production commitment and will open a writer’s room once the network approves the script. The plan is for the new ‘Wonder Years’ series to be developed for the 2021-22 TV season.

The original series starred Fred Savage and centered around a white middle-class family in the 1960s. The new series will focus on how a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama live during the 1960s.

Writer Saladin K. Patterson, who has a long history including working on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘The Bernie Mac Show’ will write these scripts and executive produce with Lee Daniels. The original series co-creator will also work as a consultant. Fred Savage will also executive produce and direct episodes.

About The Wonder Years reboot

The Wonder Years reboot is headed to ABC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney announced a formal pilot order to the reboot of The Wonder Years featuring a Black family with the Empire co-creator Lee Daniels. The original TV series starred Fred Savage and centered around a white middle-class family in the 1960s suburbs. ABC’s new version will center around a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the 1960s. Comedy writer Saladin K. Patterson (The Big Bang Theory, Frasier, The Bernie Mac Show) will write the script and executive produce the series with Lee Daniels and his Lee Daniels Entertainment banner president Marc Velez. The original TV series co-creator Neal Marlens is also signed on to work as a consultant. Fred Savage has maintained a long career after The Wonder Years will also executive produce the show and direct the pilot. The upcoming series is produced by Disney-owned 20th Century Fox, where Daniels and Fred Savage both signed overall deals. The Hollywood Reporter claims Daniels, Velez, Patterson, and Savage delivered the pitch directly to former ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke, who beforehand called out The Wonder Years as one of the shows that made her want to work in TV.

As The Hollywood Reporter pointed out, reboots are becoming more popular in Hollywood. Reboots already have brand awareness and can help gain an audience in a TV landscape with more than 500 scripted series. They also help reduce the costs of marketing and promoting a show.

During an interview with The New York Times, Lee Daniels once criticized actors who supported the #OscarsSoWhite movement. Daniels argued that discrimination is not a problem in Hollywood. However, a strong work ethic is. “Go out and do the work. The Oscars are so white! So what? Do your work. Let your legacy speak and stop complaining, man. Are we really in this for the awards?” he said. “If I had thought that way — that the world was against me — I wouldn’t be here now,” he added. “These whiny people that think we’re owed something are incomprehensible and reprehensible to me. I don’t expect acknowledgment or acceptance from white America. I’m going to be me.” This is not the first time Lee Daniels commented on race. Daniels once said that racism is not “real” because he doesn’t “embrace” it.

Tyler Perry To Pay the Funeral Expenses of 8-Year-Old Girl Killed in Atlanta

Tyler Perry will pay the funeral expenses for an 8-year-old girl shot in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to reports, Tyler Perry offers to pay the funeral expenses for an 8-year-old girl who was shot in Atlanta over the weekend.

“I’m outraged today because I’d rather be paying for 8-year-old Secoriea Turner’s college than her funeral,” Perry said in a statement to People magazine. “When does this end?”

Secoriea was with her mother and another person on Saturday night when they reached a “a makeshift roadblock that was manned by numerous armed individuals,” Atlanta police Lt. Pete Malecki said. When the driver attempted to go around the roadblock, several shots were fired and the young girl was killed.

Secoriea was killed near Wendy’s restaurant where Rayshard Brooks was killed by a white police officer on June 12th. The fast-food outlet was burned down and the area has become a site of many protests and demonstrations against Police Brutality. It is important to note, Tyler Perry also paid for Brooks’ funeral last month.

Police released a video on Tuesday of an armed man they described as a person of interest in the shooting. The video shows a Black man in a white shirt and dark pants carrying an assault rifle.

The reward of up to $20,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in the case.

In relevant news, Tyler Perry wrote his thoughts on racial injustice and police brutality in America.

“I’m exhausted from all the hate and the division, the vitriol that I see online from one to another,” the filmmaker writes. “I’m exhausted from seeing these kinds of senseless murders play out over and over again with nothing changing in our society.”

Tyler Perry wrote on various topics ranging from George Floyd, a Black man who was killed after a white Minnesota police officer kneeled on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 setons. He also discussed getting stopped and frisked in New Orleans and Atlanta.

“The level of racism and brutality that George Floyd faced is something that we as black people know all too well,” he wrote. “When I saw that video, I had so many raw, guttural emotions. I felt for him and his family. I felt for all of us as black people. I felt for my 5-year-old son.”

Shia LaBeouf Accused Of “Brownface” In New Movie, Director Responds

Shia LaBeouf accused of “brownface” in his upcoming feature film

Shia LaBeouf is facing a casting backlash over the weekend after the trailer for the upcoming feature film ‘The Tax Collector’ hit the Internet. Shia plays the role of Creeper, a crime boss who has to collect taxes from other criminal organizations in the Los Angeles area. Many quickly noticed Shia is possibly performing in “Brownface” by being a white guy play a Hispanic character.

“@DavidAyerMovies Hey, really important question that I think you should answer publicly in 2020. Is Shia Lebouf playing a Latino character in Tax Collector? If so, why didn’t you cast a Latin actor?” A user on Twitter asked.

“Really important answer – Shia is playing a whiteboy who grew up in the hood. This is a Jewish dude playing a white character. Also the only white dude in the movie,” Ayer said in response. He elaborated further as a “whiteboy” who “grew up hood.”

“Chicano culture is inclusive – I’ve seen whiteys, Asians, Blacks, Filipinos all putting in work for the hood. It’s part of street culture,” he continued before adding that he’s portraying “LA Hood shit” with his latest film. He later clarified that it’s not necessarily Chicano culture rather than LA street culture. “Yeah as I typed it I was like dang. Yep it’s LA street culture. Everyone shows up. Everyone puts in work.”

In relevant news, Halle Berry announced via Twitter on Monday saying she is no longer playing a transgender man in an upcoming movie role. Berry opened up about the movie role in an interview via Instagram Live.

Berry said: “[It’s] a character where the woman is a trans character, so she’s a woman that transitioned into a man. She’s a character in a project I love that I might be doing … Who this woman was is so interesting to me, and that will probably be my next project.”

After a public backlash, she announced she will not be playing the character in the film.

“As a cisgender woman, I now understand that I should not have considered this role and that the transgender community should undeniably have the opportunity to tell their own stories,” she wrote on Twitter.

Halle Berry drops trans role after backlash from the public

Halle Berry announced via Twitter on Monday saying she is no longer playing a transgender man in an upcoming movie role. Berry opened up about the movie role in an interview via Instagram Live.

After a public backlash, she announced she will not be playing the character in the film.

“As a cisgender woman, I now understand that I should not have considered this role and that the transgender community should undeniably have the opportunity to tell their own stories,” she wrote on Twitter.

“I am grateful for the guidance and critical conversation over the past few days and I will continue to listen, educate, and learn from this mistake.”

Very said she promised to be an “ally” and use her “voice to promote better representation on-screen, both in front of and behind the camera.”

Berry’s decision to exit the movie was welcomed by leading LGBTQ activist group Glaad, which tweeted: “We are pleased that @halleberry listened to the concerns of transgender people and learned from them. Other powerful people should do the same.”

This is not the first time for an A-list actor to drop out of a Transgender role. Scarlett Johansson exited from the movie ‘Rub & Tug’ in 2018. The movie was to center around massage parlor operator Dante “Tex” Gill, after similar backlash and protests from trans activists.

The World’s Hardest Working Hollywood Actors

Here’s the list of the hardest working actors in Hollywood.

Currently, there isn’t a precise way to determine who is the hardest working actor in Hollywood. One of the ways to determine who is earning their stars in stripes in Hollywood is looking at an actor’s resume and examining their projects.

Recently, Resume.io reviewed the filmographies of nearly 150 actors to find out who have the most credits and awards over the last decade.

Based on the numbers, James Franco has had the most producing and directing credits, while Eric Roberts, brother of Julia Roberts, has accumulated the most acting credits with a whopping 391 credits for the last 10 years.

“I start making a bunch of B movies,” Roberts told Vanity Fair, “—bam bam bam bam bam bam—one after the other… I made like 30 films in two, three years. Now, in the past two years, I’ve made around 70 movies… And so suddenly it’s like 250 movies, and I realize, I went from being a joke that’ll do anything to being ‘Is there anything he can’t do?’”

Meanwhile, Tiffany Haddish has appeared as herself the most out of any other star, while Will Smith has the most soundtrack credits to his name.

“For me, being fake is too exhausting,” Haddish told The Guardian. “I think the way I grew up, in different homes, different schools, taught me I’m most comfortable being myself wherever I am… Being yourself is easiest. I may be cheating but you know what? It feels good!”

Leonardo DiCaprio received the most award nominations and Cate Blanchett is the most awarded actress in Hollywood. Leonardo DiCaprio won 99 out of his 245 nominations over the last decade. “You do them because if you love the art form, you can look back one day and say, ‘I did that piece of work, and I gave it everything I could while I was there.’ And if you have enough of those later on in life, you’re a happy artist,” DiCaprio said to Today.

To create this list, they chose 146 in-demand actors and actresses using IMDb lists, Oscar winners lists, and the highest-paid actors list from Forbes.

Colin Kaepernick Signs Major Deal with Disney

Colin Kaepernick signs a first-look overall deal with Disney through his Ra Vision Media company.

According to reports, the partnership will focus on content that discusses race, social justice, and equality. It will become a platform for Black and Brown directors and producers to create.

Disney explains the deal will include all platforms including Walt Disney Television, ESPN, Hulu, Pixar, and ESPN’s The Undefeated. At this time, the first project in development is a docuseries produced by ESPN Films centering around Kaepernick’s life. Using interviews, unseen footage, and stories that detail his experiences over the last five years from Kaepernicks’ point of view. Libby Geist, Kevin Merida, and Connor Schell will executive produce for ESPN. In addition, Jemele Hill will also produce the project.

“I am excited to announce this historic partnership with Disney across all of its platforms to elevate Black and Brown directors, creators, storytellers, and producers, and to inspire the youth with compelling and authentic perspectives,” said Kaepernick. “I look forward to sharing the docuseries on my life story, in addition to many other culturally impactful projects we are developing.”

“During this unprecedented time, The Walt Disney Company remains committed to creating diverse and inclusive content that resonates and matters,” said Bob Iger, Disney’s executive chairman. “Colin’s experience gives him a unique perspective on the intersection of sports, culture and race, which will undoubtedly create compelling stories that will educate, enlighten and entertain, and we look forward to working with him on this important collaboration.”

Jimmy Pitaro, president, ESPN, said: “Developing exceptional storytelling told through a wide array of voices is at the core of who we are at ESPN. Colin has had a singular path as both an athlete and an activist, and, as the nation continues to confront racism and social injustice, it feels particularly relevant to hear Colin’s voice on his evolution and motivations.”

Kevin Merida, SVP and editor-in-chief of The Undefeated, stated: “The Undefeated exists at the juncture of race, sports and culture, which is exactly where Colin has often found himself as he has navigated his career and activism. We’re looking forward to working with Colin to elevate important stories of lives too often unseen and to deliver them to a vast audience across The Walt Disney Company. We want to continue to call attention to the issues of racial injustice that America is wrestling with, and do that in new, compelling ways.”

In relevant news, Netflix announced a deal with Kaepernick last month. The new series is produced by Emmy Award Winner and Academy Award nominee Ava DuVernay.

According to Netflix, the official synopsis is as follows: “The six-episode series, which was conceived in 2019 and recently completed writing in May, provides an introspective look at Kaepernick’s early life as a Black child growing up with a white adopted family and his journey to becoming a great quarterback while defining his identity. The limited series reunites Starrbury and DuVernay who last worked together on Netflix’s acclaimed When They See Us, which received 16 Emmy Award Nominations, including a nomination for Outstanding Writing for the duo and was recently honored with a Peabody Award.”

As Coronavirus Cases Spike 41%, Hollywood Productions and Jobs Are In Trouble

Coronavirus numbers spike puts Hollywood’s back-to-work plans in trouble.

According to CBS News, COVID-19 cases spike 41% in three weeks. In addition, the number of COVID-19 patients in the ICU is up 35% in the last two weeks, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The county’s Department of Public Health issued a statement on Saturday stating that if the numbers continue to rise,  the amount of ICU beds in the county would likely become scarce in the near future.

Last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci, testified before Congress sounding the alarm around the growing number of Coronavirus COVID-19 infections. Sen. Elizabeth Warren asked Fauci, who is the leading infectious disease expert, asked what will happen if the cases int he United States continue to spike.

“We are now having 40-plus thousand new cases a day,” Fauci said. “I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around. And so I am very concerned.”

The implications suggest hospitals going over-capacity, states implementing strict quarantines, and shutting down the economy again for an indefinite period of time. The potential future of the entertainment industry, which has left hundreds of thousands of people unemployed, is in jeopardy as the filming has shutdown across the country.

Many shows started resuming productions under the assumption COVID-19 cases were dropping across the country and it would provide a safe environment for productions to resume filming. However, COVID-19 cases dramatically increased. Over the weekend, over 10,000 people were infected with the Coronavirus in Florida. Meanwhile, Georgia’s film industry is preparing to resume filming in the next few months. In Los Angeles, there are over 100,000 total cases.

One film executive told Variety, that production is something “the town is going to have to power through unless an outbreak shuts them down.” The executive pointed to “existential-level anxiety” about “committing to making content for our livelihoods in spite of it.”

One executive spoke with Variety saying, “Obviously, from the studio’s perspective, from a bunch of people who are looking at their quarterly numbers and not going to be on set, there’s a tremendous desire of ‘We’ve got to go go go go go,’” said this exec. “Your natural bent as a producer is, like, ‘Great, let’s go!’ We want to get stuff going. But, you know, I think the producers and certainly the filmmakers and the actors are all like, ‘OK, it’s all well and good to have these hypothetical ideas, but safety is paramount.’”

There is also a concern of politics in certain states. “People are really suspicious of the political leadership in those states,” a production executive told Variety. “Frankly, what’s the compliance going to be now that this whole wearing masks thing has become politicized? So I think there’s a real reluctance to want to A, get on a plane, and B, expose yourself to something that feels much higher risk.”

Then, there is a problem with filming on sets for prolonged periods of time. Showrunner Michelle King from ‘The Good Fight’ explained in the Variety roundtable, “We’re having to write toward filming on our sets, but then every health provider can agree on only a few things, and that’s that you don’t want to be indoors with a lot of people for long periods of time — which is filming on a stage. It really is a conundrum…there’s nothing to talk about if you can’t be on a stage. That is crucial.”

As the Coronavirus continues to spike, productions are leaving the United States and filming in Europe, where COVID-19 infections are lower. As we previously reported, the UK government announced big budget movies can skip quarantines and start filming ASAP.

Meanwhile, Christopher Miller, co-founder of the production company Lord Miller with Phil Lord, tweeted on June 25, “There are a bunch of movies and shows that are hoping to start production soon (including some of ours) but they won’t be able to go if the COVID numbers keep rising. So if you want fresh new content please wear a damn mask and help stop the spread!”
