Groundswell has painted over 600 community murals in 25+ years and each year we advance our mission by engaging 450+ young people, primarily ages 13 – 19, from communities around NYC in our public artmaking programs. Our projects beautify neighborhoods, engage youth in societal and personal transformation, and give expression to perspectives that are underrepresented in the public dialogue. All murals are based on social justice issues that are important to the communities that we serve.

Position Description: 

Groundswell seeks an energetic and organized Communications Manager. The Communications Manager will be responsible for managing Groundswell’s external communications, including social media, press releases, annual reports, e-blasts, funder, and partner materials, and more. The role will develop actionable short- and long-term strategies to clarify external messaging and grow digital audience reach, while also being responsible for designing communications assets and executing deliverables in a timely manner. The position reports to the Director of Development and will work closely with the development and program team. 

Position Responsibilities: 

Graphic design & content

  • Design collateral for: sponsorship and grant packages, social media, funder updates, press, e-blasts, fundraising campaigns, and other external communications
  • Refine and streamline branding systems
  • Compile Groundswell’s Annual Report at the end of year
  • Manage projects to ensure content is publication-ready by the deadline

Digital management & strategy

  • Manage digital platforms including Groundswell’s social media (Facebook, Instagram), and website
  • Own public communications for Groundswell.
  • Monitoring analytics for communications planning.
  • Utilize Groundswell’s development systems including database and files.

 Groundswell Mission & Team

  • Serve as champion and ambassador for Groundswell’s programs and mission
  • Provide training as needed to Groundswell staff to help build organization-wide competency with creative platforms and content development
  • Collaborate with Development Team to find areas of growth and engagement
  • Support youth and teaching artists at programs and events 

Position Qualifications: 

  • 5 years’ experience in communications, PR, graphic design, or marketing
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, design, or related
  • Excellent visual design and content creation skills; strong, versatile copywriting and editing
  • Experience synthesizing analytics on social and digital platforms to drive strategy; strong understanding of current digital/social trends; story and branding strategy a plus Experienced with web applications, databases, and social media (Facebook, Instagram); Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Salesforce, Gift works, Asana, MailChimp desirable
  • Experience with budget development and cost tracking
  • Extremely detail oriented and diligent, self-motivated; works independently with excellent planning skills and the ability to multi-task and set priorities to reach deadlines
  • Experience in youth/education, community-based or arts organizations a plus
  • Commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion 

Compensation and Benefits: 

Competitive annual salary commensurate with experience: Salary range $55-65K. Extensive benefits package including Health, Dental, & Vision insurance, generous paid time off, and a collegial, friendly work environment among others.   

Flexible work environment with option for remote, hybrid, or in-office. NYC-based, a plus

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Videographer/Editor position requires skills in a high-volume production environment specializing in the final storytelling of a project. This position is primarily responsible for assisting in the filming and editing process for company video projects.  This position requires a diverse knowledge of industry standard types of cameras and production equipment along with basic Avid editing skills.  They will work closely with the Producers, Videographers and Editors on staff to ensure projects are completed on time and with the highest technical and aesthetic standards. They are responsible for maintaining the company’s production assets and working with the department production calendar so that equipment is ready for each project.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support production staff with variety of projects using production gear including various models of cameras, lenses, tripods, and other gear related to shooting.
  • Work with Production team to build sets for production needs.
  • Assist with general duties.
  • Maintaining production equipment before and after projects.
  • Coordinate the tracking of all production assets.
  • Assist with research and ordering of equipment.
  • Support with reporting and tracking maintenance and repairs of production equipment.
  • Ingest media into company’s archiving system and prepare media for Editors.
  • Log footage and edit basic to intermediate level projects.
  • Operate additional cameras as needed for production needs including live events.
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

 

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Minimum college or trade school experience in production or similar field..
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of practical field experience working in multiple aspects of film and video production.
  • Color grading at intermediate level.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Thorough understanding of fishing, hunting, and other outdoor skills as required to best work with production team in outdoor recreation company.
  • Strong work ethic. Outgoing personality with ability to interact within group of creative individuals in a dynamic and constantly changing environment. Willingness to react with short notice to changes in daily routine.
  • Willing to travel as required – often locations require extensive driving and multiple night stays with early and late hours.
  • Strong communication skills – able to understand direction and make themselves understood when communicating objectives for accomplishing story lines or goals of a production.
  • Thorough knowledge of Avid non-linear editing systems, specifically the Avid Media Composer or similar.
  • Strong working knowledge of various codecs, containers and file types used in today’s media environment.
  • Able to work within a team environment including in the field or studio and in the post process, editing and finishing.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy equipment in variety of terrain and conditions from very hot to very cold.
  • Good driving record, able to secure Missouri Operator’s License Class E.
  • Good organizational skills: able to keep multiple projects balanced at any one time
  • Strong video resume required.  This resume should demonstrate samples from all of the areas mentioned above.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 25-30%

  • Regularly performs computer work and sits.
  • Occasionally walks and stands.
  • Seldom/never lifts up to 50lbs.

Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices.
