Job Description
At Universal Studios Hollywood, we want to develop the best leaders and be known for it. The Director of Learning & Organization Development requires a strong background in OD processes, talent and leadership development, and operational/technical skills development for our frontline workforce. This hands-on role will oversee all OD/talent processes related to employee engagement and internal growth, design, develop and deliver enterprise-wide leadership and talent development programs, and onboarding processes for all levels of the organization. This role will also partner closely with senior leaders to consult on team effectiveness challenges and facilitate interventions, workshops and off-sites that can address the required needs.
Organization Development: Design, develop and deliver effective performance management, talent management and OD systems, strategies and practices.
- Partners with UPR on the design, development and execution of UPR Talent Review (succession planning) process and associated assessments and analytics.
- Partners with UPR on the development and execution of UPR performance and development feedback tools in integrated online platform (e.g., goals, evaluations, development plans, internal resumes, etc.). Is responsible for managing annual processes and ensuring compliance.
- Is responsible for assisting the organization in driving Team Member Engagement strategies and consulting with organizational leaders on results interpretation and action planning. Partner with UPR on the design and execution of annual engagement surveys and ad hoc employee research. Analyzes results and produces company and department level reports. Provide overall content analysis to Sr. Leadership team regarding results.
Leadership & Talent Development: Design, development, implementation and evaluation of all USH leadership programs to ensure consistent practices and alignment with the overall business goals.
- Drives the strategy, design, development and delivery of core USH competency-based training programs for exempt, emerging leader pipeline, new leader, supervisor, experienced leader, high potential and executive training programs. Analyzes Org Development metrics against business objectives to ensure all leadership development programming is aligned to the key business objectives/levers.
- Develops, maintains and delivers key Pipeline Talent programs such as “DLT” and “FOLO” and supports the overall development of capability across the organization. Supports the HR Operations team in further developing talent processes.
- Supports the design and delivery of open enrollment workshops and learning series.
- Partners with Comcast/NBCUniversal in the integration and delivery of core corporate programs. Facilitates USH nomination process for corporate programs and serves as learning lead supporting NBCU Talent Lab.
- Works closely with senior business leaders to identify gaps in productivity, and performance, recommends targeted business solutions to build individual and team competence, and builds impactful programs/processes that link to individual development and increased business performance.
- Partners with Comcast|NBCU compliance team to ensure USH Team Members are assigned and in compliance with corporate requirements. Designs and develops creative delivery solutions for park hourly population to meet spirit and intent.
Operational Training: Design, development, delivery, and evaluation of operations-focused onboarding and training programs, processes, and associated initiatives to ensure newly hired and current frontline Team Members are fully prepared to successfully perform their job responsibilities.
- Leads a team of learning professionals in providing strategic performance consulting services for front of house operating divisions. Works closely with senior business leaders to identify gaps in productivity, performance and service, recommends targeted business solutions.
- Drives the strategy, design, development, and delivery of USH training programs to support cultural assimilation as well as programs to drive functional capability for hourly, non-exempt, and emerging leadership within our operating divisions.
- Builds guest service delivery strategy and annual tactics based on company metrics/measures to support increased improvement. Supports both global guest service initiatives as well as functional support.
General Duties
- Provides leadership to direct staff to motivate and achieve work accountabilities, goals and personal development needs.
- Provides performance and organizational development consulting and serve as an adviser to HR Business Partners, other HR functions and the business.
- Plans and manages operating budgets and capital resources.
- Develops measures and processes to continually assess transfer of knowledge and content/program effectiveness.
- Applies LMS and digital technologies in the ongoing design and delivery of existing and future training programs and products; use tools that motivate and engage learners and learning across a diverse landscape.
- Delivers key business activities, including internal leadership meetings and team events/off-sites
- Develops and manages external vendor/partner relationships resulting in high-quality, cost-effective learning solutions.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety and compliance responsibilities by following established USH policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Builds and maintains strong client, and subject matter expert relationships to gather ongoing needs assessment information and build curriculum content and OD solutions.
Qualifications
- Must have excellent leadership, change management, consulting and influence skills while demonstrating the ability to think strategically and translate business performance gaps into learning and development strategies.
- 10+ years’ experience designing, developing, and implementing diverse learning solutions. At least 5 years’ experience in a management/leadership role; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree is required in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development. Master’s degree is preferred in Psychology, Instructional Design, or Organizational Development.
- Classroom instruction & facilitation: Excellent skills in stand-up instruction, presentation and facilitation
- Advanced interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively and represent the USH brand across all levels in the business.
- Ability to work both collaboratively as a team across various functions and work independently in an ambiguous, constantly-changing environment with a relentlessly positive attitude.
- Ability to manage multiple projects to ensure on-time delivery and quality using both internal and external resources.
