“28 Years Later”: Cast, Production and Everything You Need to Know

Date:

Sony Pictures has announced that “28 Years Later,” the highly-anticipated sequel in Danny Boyle’s post-apocalyptic horror series, will be released on June 20, 2025. This film marks the third installment, following “28 Days Later” (2002) and “28 Weeks Later” (2007). The new cast includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Jack O’Connell, with Cillian Murphy returning as an executive producer. Alex Garland will write the screenplay, continuing the collaboration that began with the original film.

Plot and New Trilogy

While specific plot details for “28 Years Later” are still under wraps, it has been revealed that the film is the first in an upcoming trilogy. The follow-up will be directed by Nia DaCosta, known for her work on “Candyman” (2021) and “The Marvels” (2023).

Returning Talent

The return of Alex Garland to pen the screenplay is a significant development, promising to retain the intense and gripping narrative style of the original. Garland’s previous work includes acclaimed films like “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation,” further raising expectations for the sequel.

Anticipation and Impact

“28 Days Later” revolutionized the zombie genre with its fast-paced infected and bleak, atmospheric storytelling. “28 Weeks Later” continued the story with a fresh perspective, and now “28 Years Later” is set to expand the universe even further. Fans of the series and the horror genre are eagerly awaiting this new installment, which promises to deliver more of the suspense and terror that made the original films iconic.

Stay tuned for more updates as the release date approaches, and prepare for another chilling journey into the post-apocalyptic world envisioned by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland.
