As The Hollywood Reporter has announced, production for a Gears of War movie is underway.
After months of negotiation, Netflix and The Coalition finally agreed to allow Xbox 360 fans to stream the popular video game franchise. This news comes on the 16th anniversary of the game’s debut, November 7, 2006.
According to THR, if the first two formats are successful, Netflix plans to produce more content related to Gears of War. The streamer is working on a live-action feature film adaptation and an adult animated series based on the game.
At this time, no directors or producers are attached to any of the projects above. However, with the franchise selling more than 40 million copies across six titles and additional spin-offs, Netflix is confident that its slate of adaptations will still be popular among the gamer’s fans.
Gears of War is a game in which the player’s identity as Human tries to stop an extinction from happening. An army of below-the creatures known as Locusts are trying to take over their planet, and Sergeant Marcus Fenix needs help from his Delta Squad to save humanity’s existence.
At this time, we do not have any additional information available for either Netflix title. This includes loglines and release dates.
