Los Angeles Police is Cracking Down on Talent Scams

0

Los Angeles is cracking down on talent industry scams that cheat aspiring actors and models out of money by charging them outrageous fees.

“Thousands come to Hollywood every year to pursue their dreams in the entertainment industry,” said City Attorney Mike Feuer. “We need to protect them from those who would dash those dreams by taking unfair advantage of them.”

Earlier this week, Los Angeles police officers arrested Debra Baum, who was the previous manager of viral artist Rebecca Black, was arrested after charging management fees to aspiring musicians.

Rebecca-Black-007

From Deadline:

In March 2012, Baum allegedly solicited a 19-year-old singer in a hair salon to sign a $10,000-per-month management contract to handle her vocal career. Before terminating the contract that September, the victims’ family allegedly paid $70,000 in management fees to Baum as well as thousands of dollars in third-party expenses for vocal training, stylists and recordings. The victim’s sister was also allegedly solicited for a contract and paid an additional $40,000 to Baum in management fees for acting. A complaint was subsequently made to the City Attorney’s Office and investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs.

The latest crackdown is part of Los Angeles Talent Scam Prevention Act. The Talent Scam Prevention Act prohibits talent agents and talent managers from charging an advance fee for representation as well as requiring clients of talent training, talent counseling and talent listing services to buy photographs, websites and other promo materials as a condition for using or for obtaining preferential treatment from that service.

The union for actors, SAG took part in the press conference to raise awareness about talent scams. “SAG-AFTRA works tirelessly to ensure that our members – and future members – are protected from fraudulent talent scams that prey on their hopes, dreams, and optimism,” said Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the union’s chief operating officer and general counsel. “Having worked closely with lawmakers to achieve enactment of the Talent Scam Prevention Act, we applaud the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office for its commitment to enforcing the law and safeguarding performers, especially young performers and their families, who so often fall victim to these scams. The best law would be meaningless without effective and vigorous enforcement.”

Chris Hemsworth: Hollywood is “BullSh***” and “Gross”

0

Chris Hemsworth says life in Hollywood was “bullsh*t” before he landed the role of Thor.

The actor recently revealed that it was “gross” how differently people treated him after he landed his role as Thor.

In an interview with GQ Australia, the 31-year-old said his role as the Marvel Comics superhero “opened up every door that’s available” but also exposed him to the industry’s dark side.

“It’s bulls**t,” he said of his experience being a relative unknown in the industry. “I remember how differently people treated me when things went well. Some directors and producers who never gave a s**t — at best, they’d have given me a sideways glance — next time I saw them, they’re my best friend. That’s gross.”

Chris Hemsworth, who is also a father of three young children revealed his distate for the paparazzi.

“When I’m with my kids and someone is scaring my kids — which is what they’ll do — that gets me fired up. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up,” he said.

“I get hot, I get flustered. And in the States, they’re there, 24/7, at the gate, six feet away when you take out the rubbish.

“I don’t give a f**k what anyone says — you’re not a bonus to my career,” he added, referring to the paps.GQ Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth also revealed that becoming an A-List actor isn’t everything that he expected it would be.

“You get to Hollywood, you achieve something and then you realise, ‘S**t, it didn’t actually bring me the happiness I thought it was going to, it didn’t fix anything. Look, I mean I don’t wake up, look in the mirror and go, ‘Yep, all is perfect.’”

“You start to think of it as the norm, that this is how people are — and that’s the danger. If this is life, I’m not raising my kids like this.”

Hemsworth is now among the Top five highest paid male actors in Hollywood.

He was photographed in Sydney, Australia for the GQ shoot. The February edition is out Monday.

Warner Bros. Planning ‘The Jetsons’ Movie

0

Warner Bros. is Planning ‘The Jetsons’ movie reboot in the near future.

George Jetson is coming back to the future. Warner Bros. is running out of ideas and is interested in rebootting the Jetson franchise for a new feature film and this time it is rumored Kanye West will be a major role in the movie.

From Deadline:

Warners Bros is looking to turn the Hanna-Barbera series The Jetsonsinto an animated theatrical feature. The studio has hired Matt Lieberman to write the script. There was a flurry of rumors sometime back about a live-action version that might somehow involve Kanye West. Not sure what happened there, but I’m told that Lieberman is working from scratch on a fully animated version.

The Jetsons is based on the Hanna Barbera cartoon series that originated in 1962 and was that production company’s space-age answer to the stone-age The Flintstones.

Six Facts Hollywood Doesn’t Want You To Know About American Sniper, Chris Kyle

Six Facts Hollywood Doesn’t Want You To Know About American Sniper, Chris Kyle

The movie American Sniper, based on the story of late Navy Seal Chris Kyle, is a box office hit, and is setting records around the world for being one of the biggest movies of 2015. However, the autobiography of the same name, is being reported as a bunch of myths, lies” and exaggerations that Hollywood didn’t really clear up or explain.

Here are six lies about Chris Kyle, according to Raw Story, that Clint Eastwood failed to explain.

1. The movie creates a terrorist sniper that is unstoppable and works for several factions.

Chris Kyle’s main villain in the movie is a sniper called Mustafa. Mustafa is mentioned only one time in Chris Kyle’s book, but the movie makes him sound like a god-like killer.

2. The movie shows Chris Kyle as someone who is haunted by his actions.

Throughout his book and in several interviews Chris Kyle never shows remorse for killing so many people. In the book, Kyle refers to everyone he fought as “savage, despicable” evil. He writes, “I only wish I had killed more.” He also writes, “I loved what I did. I still do. If circumstances were different – if my family didn’t need me – I’d be back in a heartbeat. I’m not lying or exaggerating to say it was fun. I had the time of my life being a SEAL.”

3. The real Chris Kyle told people that he killed dozens of people in Post-Katrina New Orleans, which was a lie.

Chris Kyle claimed that he killed 30 people in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, a story Louisiana writer Jarvis DeBarry calls “preposterous”.

4. Chris Kyle lied about killing two men who tried to carjack him in Texas.

Chris Kyle told people that he killed two alleged carjackers in Texas. Reporters tried to verify this claim, but no evidence of it exists.

5. Chris Kyle was sued for lying about former Governor of Minnesota.

Kyle said that he got into a fight with Governor Jesse Ventura at a local bar. Ventura successfully sued Kyle for this passage in the book, and the jury awarded him $1.845 million.

6. Chris Kyle’s family kept most of the donations and lied about how much money was given to charity.

The National Review points out that Chris Kyle gave around 2 percent, $52,000 to veterans’ charities while Chris Kyle made $3 million.

Despite ‘American Sniper’ being a major box office success, there is a growing backlash against the movie and Chris Kyle’s character. Many people are calling for the Academy Awards to make sure the movie does not win an Oscar in the next coming months. But, what do you think of Chris Kyle and the movie? Share with us your thoughts in the comments below!

‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Writer and Movie Director Didn’t Get Along

0

‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ author tried to control the movie’s director forcing the two to clash heads and ideas.

Fifty Shades of Grey is only a few weeks away from premiering. In an article published in the February 2015 issue of Vanity Fair, Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of the Fifty Shades of Grey didn’t get along with the book’s author, E.L. James.

Taylor-Johnson creative talents apparently created a divide between herself and E.L. James, who held an usual amount of artistic control in the various decisions in the movie.

Fifty Shades of Grey

James was an amateur among sophisticates. Taylor-Johnson had her own ideas about how to shoot the film, including the sex scenes. Their knowledge of film and reference points was completely different. Taylor-Johnson thought Nicolas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now had one of the best sex scenes in any film, and one with the woman mostly in control. James’s favorite films, she tells us, are Casablanca, Good Will Hunting, Cabaret, Aliens, The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, and It’s a Wonderful Life.

Vanity Fair describes E.L James as a “great dinner date”, and was extremely protective of the movie adaptation of the best selling series. Producer Michael De Luca admitted that “there were ups and downs” and “some spirited debates” during filming. Taylor-Johnson herself adds:

“I kept trying to remind myself that they hired me for a reason. Some people said to me, ‘I’m surprised you haven’t quit.’ I was like, ‘Why would you think I’d quit?’ I never quit anything. Not without a fight.” She admits, of James, “We battled all the way through. She’d say the same. There were tough times and revelatory times. There were sparring contests. It was definitely not an easy process, but that doesn’t mean to say that it didn’t come out the right way.”

Hunger Games: Mockingjay is the Number One Movie of 2014

0

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is the number one movie of 2014.

Mockingjay was the top-grossing movie of 2014. Thanks to over $333 million in box office sales, The Hunger Games Mockingjay – Part 1 has beat Guardians of the Galaxy to become the highest grossing movie of 2014.

From Deadline:

This is the first time in box office history two films in a franchise ranked as the No. 1 titles at the domestic box office for two years in a row — no other Harry Potter, Twilight or Lord Of The Rings has ever done so. Not to mention, it’s the first time a studio has had back-to-back annual No. 1 titles in decades (since box office charts began publishing in 1982, there haven’t been any studios logging back-to-back annual No. 1 hits). Also, it’s an anomaly that the No. 1-grossing film two years in a row features a female lead.

It is nice to point out that for two years in a row, the number one grossing film features a female lead. Beating all stereotypes and suggestions that women cannot be leading actors on feature films.
