10 Things You Didn’t Know About Harrison Ford

0

Here are 10 things you didn’t know about Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford was hospitalized on Thursday after crash landing a plane in Venice, California. The 72-year-old actor crash landed a golf course after something went mechanically wrong. He was transferred to UCLA Hospital where he was listed in “fair to moderate” condition, to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

But, the actor has made his mark in Hollywood for nearly 50 years. Here are 10 things you did not know about Harrison Ford.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Harrison Ford

Indiana Jones Gif

1. The legendary fight scene

Credited with “creating” what many believe to be the best scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark(1981) because he was suffering from a bout of dysentery at the time of filming: during the scene in Cairo with the swordsman in black, the script called for a much longer fight, but because of his condition, he quietly asked director Steven Spielberg if they could shorten the scene. Spielberg’s reply was that the only way it could be done would be if Indy pulled out his gun and “just shot the guy.” The rest of the crew, not aware of the change, laughed at this, and it remained in the final cut.

2. Acting Style

Harrison Ford frequently plays characters who use their intelligence rather than physical strength. In addition, Ford’s characters are known for taking a lot of hits and enduring a lot of pain in action films. His voice is typically deep, soft and soothing which lends to his charming personality on screen.

3. Back Injury

He suffered a back injury while filming Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and underwent an experimental (at the time) disc operation utilizing a papaya enzyme. While he was away Steven Spielberg filmed around him as best he could, including most of the conveyor belt scene, using Vic Armstrong, a British-born stuntman who looked so much like Ford that members of the crew were always confusing the two. Ford resumed doing his own stunts upon his return, and his close-ups were added later into the finished film.

4. He was a popular carpenter in Los Angeles

Worked as a carpenter in Los Angeles before achieving fame in movies, mainly doing home remodeling work. Had a reputation as one of the best cabinetmakers in the city, and his services were much in demand on Los Angeles’ trendy Westside long before he became a movie star.

5. Harrison Ford’s role on E.T. was cut.

Had a role as the school principal in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) who reprimands Elliott about the dangers of alcohol. The scene was cut because director Steven Spielbergfelt that Ford’s presence would break the flow of the film. The only footage known to exist appeared in The E.T. Storybook released at the same time as the film.

6. Harrison Ford hated working on ‘Blade Runner’

Said that Blade Runner (1982) was one of the most frustrating films he had ever done, because the actual shoot was very grueling and because of the post-production changes which were meant to (but didn’t) help the film do better at the box office.

7. Star Wars

Out of the three leads of the original Star Wars trilogy, he was the only one to appear in all three films without ever signing a contract. In addition, Carrie Fisher had to stand on a box for most of her scenes with him in the original Star Wars trilogy because she was a foot shorter than him and did not properly fit into the frame.

8. Jurassic Park

Was offered the role of Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park (1993) but turned it down. The role went to Sam Neill instead.

9. The Scar

Has a scar on his chin which he got in 1968 when he tried to “buckle up” while already driving, and lost control of the car. The scar has been explained in two of his films: in theRiver Phoenix introductory sequence in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), an inexperienced young Indy hits himself in the chin the first time he tries to use the whip; and in Working Girl (1988), he first says that he got the scar in a knife fight, then admits that the true story is that he knocked his chin on a toilet after fainting during an ear-piercing.
Harrison Ford

10. He lost his teeth doing stunts

Revealed on the Late Show with David Letterman (1993) that he has some false teeth; two were pulled by a dentist after some others were damaged when he fell on a gun during a stunt for a television appearance early in his career.

‘The Expendables’ TV Series is Coming Soon

0

Fox Television is currently working on a TV series based on The Expendables film franchise.

While the series writer and action movie star, Sylvester Stallone won’t appear in The Expendables series, he will serve as executive producer. According to reports, Greg Coolidge (Ride Along) and Kirk Ward (NCIS: LA) will write the TV version, and serve as executive producers alongside Stallone’s production company, Rogue Marble.

According to Comicbook.com the series maybe different than the movie franchise:

The series is reported to be light-hearted action drama that, like it’s big-screen brethern—will team-up old television stars as heroes who must stop a deadly terrorist. Fox has given no word on which television stars might headline the series, but there are certainly plenty to choose from. In fact, some actors from the film series, like Chuck Norris, Kelsey Grammer, and Terry Crews, are also television stars.

The Expendables franchise currently has two more movies coming soon and a female-spinoff installments in development.

‘Empire’ On Track to Pass ‘The Walking Dead’ Ratings

0

Fox’s newest hit musical drama series, Empire continues to break records week after week.

It is officially the only TV series since 1992 to have its rating continue to rise for its first seven episodes. The last show to be as successful as Empire was Roseanne. Now, Empire is on track to beat AMC’s The Walking Dead, ratings.

According to Variety, last night Empire averaged a 5.7 rating in the key demographic of 18-49 year-olds or simply, 14.2 million viewers. Since the show’s premiere, ratings have increased by nearly a million viewers every episode.

Currently, Empire is still in competition with another show to be number one in its demographic audience. The Walking Dead remains the number one drama series in the 18 to 49 demographic. The zombie series dominates Sunday nights with a 6.2 ratings. However, with two more episodes left for Empire, expect ratings to surge in the next few weeks.

You can continue helping both series shatter record ratings by tuning in to Empire on Wednesdays at 8/9c on FOX, and watch The Walking Dead at 9/8c on AMC.

Disney Teen Actor Says His Family Spent All of His Money

0

A Disney actor is currently suing his dad for being a bad parent.

Lab Rats star Bill Unger says his dad/manager stole $400,00 in cash and spent it all on a girl and mysterious life insurance policy.

Billy claims that he entered an oral contract around Oct. 15, 2013, where his father agreed to serve as not only his talent manager, but also his business and financial advisor.

In the lawsuit filings, the actor states that his father “utterly and completely lacks at all times lacked the skill, knowledge, experience to act either as an entertainment talent manager and or business manager.”

Billy specifically claims that over $6,000 was spent on his father’s girlfriend’s rent and that William used $1,290 of his money to pay a full year premium for a $1 million dollar life insurance policy on Billy’s life with only himself listed as the beneficiary.

According to Billy, William intentionally took commissions of over 33 percent, more than double what the industry standard reportedly is. [via]

According to TMZ, the father says the lawsuit is due to a “manipulative negative force in [Billy’s] life whose sole focus is to administer pain”.

This isn’t something new, when Home Alone was a box-office success, Macaulay Culkin legally made his family “disappear”.

The Home Alone star actually made his family disappear. In the early ’90s, rumors began surfacing that Macaulay’s manager-father, Kit Culkin, had been stealing money from his child star-son so, after a bitter custody battle, the court sided with his mother and Macaulay subsequently fired his father. Money and fame can literally tear families apart.

Producers Casting More Minority Actors This Pilot Season

0

Producers are casting more minority actors this season than ever before.

TV executives are casting more minority actors now than ever before. With recent studies showing that people are interested in watching more and more diverse TV shows such as Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat, and Empire, producers are hiring more minorities for TV pilots.

ABC’s success this season “proves the point that audiences are hungry for shows that are well done but also reflect the world around us,” said Channing Dungey, exec VP of drama development, movies and miniseries for ABC. “It’s not about just diversity, it’s about authenticity. Audiences are really excited to see more of themselves on the screen.”

A lot of the success of today’s TV series comes from ABC’s Scandal. Kerry Washington’s hit TV drama was one of the first hit TV shows featuring an African American woman in several decades.

“It’s been interesting to see how much more competitive it is with diverse actors and actresses now,” said Dungey, who added that she is proud ABC helped lead the way, not just with “Murder” but with the blossoming of Kerry Washington and “Scandal” into the first successful drama in decades led by an African-American actress.

“The thing I really hope is that this isn’t a passing phase,” Dungey said. “I’m hoping this is a trend that will continue.”

Should Atlanta Background Extras Go On Strike?

0

Georgia background extras get paid on average 11.00 less per hour than other major cities. So, should Atlanta background extras go on strike?

Atlanta has quickly become the Hollywood of the South. With North Carolina ending their previous tax credit system and Louisiana on the verge of getting rid of their tax credit system, in the near future Atlanta’s film industry will explode. In addition, the number productions filming in Atlanta, Georgia are increasing forcing producers to need more and more extras to work on their feature films.

In comparison to cities like Los Angeles and New York, Georgia is a right to work state. Which means the following:

The Right to Work principle–the guiding concept of the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation–affirms the right of every American to work for a living without being compelled to belong to a union. Compulsory unionism in any form–“union,” “closed,” or “agency” shop–is a contradiction of the Right to Work principle and the fundamental human right that the principle represents. The National Right to Work Committee advocates that every individual must have the right, but must not be compelled, to join a labor union. [Source]

That may not sound like a big idea however, union background extras makes $148/8 that is equivalent to $18.50 an hour. In comparison, a non-union background extra in Atlanta makes on average $8/hour. Producers are saving 10.50 per hour for every background extra when they decide to film in Georgia. In an industry where employees average around six figures a year, a background extra humbly makes on average $10,000.

According to sources, when a background extra joins the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) they are blacklisted in the industry. and they will no longer get hired unless they agree to working for less than union pay.

But, it gets worse. Recently, Lifetime Network’s Devious Maids decreased their pay for background extras from $8/hour to minimum wage. Which may mark the start of a new trend in the Peach State where more and more producers hire extras at minimum wage instead of hiring union actors.

Sharknado 3 crew members recently went on strike in the middle of production due to the lack of fair compensation and wages. According to reports, crew members of the upcoming Syfy feature film, ‘Sharknado 3′ have walked off set in order to unionize. Picketing started on Tuesday morning outside of the Sharknado 3 production offices.

But, it begs the question, with more and more TV shows and movies paying background actors less and less, should background extras hold a strike and demand fair pay? Or is it fair for producers to pay actors 10.50 less per hour because it still provides a job to the community?

Jennifer Lawrence teams up with Steven Spielberg in the new movie “It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War”

Warner Bros. has cast Jennifer Lawrence to star in Steven Spielberg’s new movie “It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War,” according to reports.

Jennifer Lawrence is currently working on David O. Russell’s “Joy,” which is set for a Christmas release by Fox. She’ll be seen next in Liongate’s “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” in November.

Jennifer Lawrence’s next project will center around the life of Lynsey Addario, the award-winning international photojournalist. Addario, traveled to war-torn countries like Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq, and won several awards including the Pulitzer Prize in 2009. She was jailed for several days in Libya in 2011.

The movie will also be produced by “American Sniper” producer Andrew Lazar. According to Variety, several movie studios were bidding to film the movie.

Other bidders for the project included Working Title Films with Reese Witherspoon attached; Darren Aronofsky with Natalie Portman attached; and The Weinstein Company with George Clooney and Grant Heslov involved and Margo Robbie starring.
