It’s Official: ‘Twin Peaks’ Reboot is Coming to Showtime

0

David Lynch is returning to TV with ‘Twin Peaks’ reboot.

On Friday, David Lynch announced that Showtime’s reboot of the cult series was ‘happening again’ after a month long production halt after budget concerns.

In October, Showtime ordered nine new episodes but after Lynch delivered the nine scripts, Showtime realized that production costs increased incredibly and asked for the creator to cut their profits in order to make ‘Twin Peaks’ a reality. Lynch later said no.

But according to Showtime, David Lynch will direct the entire series, “which will total more than the originally announced nine hours.”

‘Twin Peaks’ centers around the story of an awkward FBI agent investigating the murder of a teenager in a small, unusual Washington town, aired for two seasons on ABC and was followed by a movie in 1992, “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.”

RATINGS: Fewer People are Watching ‘Scandal and ‘Blacklist’

0

ABC’s ‘Scandal,’ and NBC’s ‘Blacklist‘ season finale ratings are down from last year.

According to reports, few people cared to see what happened to Kerry Washington last night. Variety reports that the season finale of ‘Scandal’ had only 8.1 million viewers that is down 32% from last year.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, ABC’s season finales of “Scandal” (2.3 rating/8 share in adults 18-49, 8.1 million viewers overall) and “Grey’s Anatomy” (2.2/8 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) stood as Thursday’s top two series in 18-49. While each was up a tick from last week, they were down 32% and 15% respectively vs. last year’s season-enders. “Grey’s,” for a show in its 11th season and in an earlier timeslot, is still performing admirably, but anchor “Scandal’s” decline this spring and must be sending off some alarm bells at the Alphabet. The shows will return as a combo in the fall, followed by “How to Get Away With Murder.”

Scandal

While, NBC’s ‘The Blacklist’ had only 7.3 million viewers which is down 40% in comparison to last year.

Over at NBC, “The Blacklist” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) was up for a second straight week as its wrapped season two. While it has given the network’s Thursday a nice boost — and does very well in DVR playback — “Blacklist” finished down about 40% from last year’s finale (2.6), which aired after “The Voice” on Monday. It nearly doubled its lead-in from a repeat “Law & Order: SVU” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall), and was followed at 10 p.m. by “Dateline” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall), which was up 0.2 from last week for its best delivery during the May sweep.

Meanwhile, Nina Dobrev’s final episode on ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ actually caused the ratings for ‘The Vampire Diaries’ to increase.

Tom Hardy was forced to apologize to Mad Max director after watching the movie’s final cut.

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ is a movie that took George Miller 12 years to create. The director allegedly didn’t want to make another Mad Max movie once he finished ‘Beyond Thunderdome.’ Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hardy had doubts about Miller’s vision during production and said he owed the director an apology after seeing the movie’s final cut:

Turning to director George Miller, seated beside him at Thursday’s Cannes press conference, he explained: “I have to apologize to you, because I got frustrated [during the movie’s shoot]. There was no way that George could have explained what he had conceived.”

His doubts are pretty understandable as it was a total of 450 hours of footage shot. George Miller and Tom Hardy were joined by Nicholas Hoult and Charlize Theron at the Cannes Film Festival press conference and when the film’s feminist nature was brought up, George Miller cleared up the air:

“Initially, there wasn’t a feminist agenda,” Miller insisted. Instead, the movie was simply designed to be an extended chase, and “the thing that people were chasing was to be not an object, but the five wives. I needed a warrior. But it couldn’t be a man taking five wives from another man. That’s an entirely different story. So everything grew out of that.”

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ currently holds a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Hopefully, Warner Bros. can produce another interesting sequel to the series.

Hollywood is Increasing Cybersecurity

Hollywood is increasing cybersecurity after the Sony Hack.

Ever since the Hack on Sony, Hollywood has stepped up their cybersecurity to protect their movies and TV shows.

According to reports, the Sony Hack has left a lasting impression on the film and TV industry.

“Since the Sony hack, a lot of people are waking up and saying, ‘We’re vulnerable, what do we do?’” said Sean Cordero, chair of the controls matrix working group at the Cloud Security Alliance. “The studios, mini-majors and independents are ramping up efforts to see what the risk is and whether they can shore it up.”

“Conversations are happening at a much higher, broader level,” said Jonathan Chow, chief security officer at Live Nation Entertainment. “A certain group of people in our business assumed the IT guys will take care of that, and they didn’t bother to ask the questions. Now they’re asking the questions — it’s a concern for everybody now.” [Variety]

Since then movie studios are on high alert and are constantly trying to trick their own employees into opening questionable email attachments that are often a hacker’s way of creeping into a computer network. The goal of these tests is supposed to teach employees the dangers of being hacked.

This probably means your e-mail to the producer or casting director is more than likely going straight to the spam folder.
