Pilot season is finally over. This year however, Los Angeles has lost it’s grip on the number of TV drama pilots filming in the city, according to Variety.
A majority of the productions went to New York, Vancouver, and Chicago. However, what is interesting is the fact that Louisiana has only one TV pilot filming in the state. Which is bad news. Typically, if a pilot is filmed in a certain city and the show is picked up, then it is more likely that the show will film in that state. The lack of TV pilots in Louisiana points out that producers are most likely not interested in what Louisiana has to offer.
But, according to Deadline, Georgia’s tax incentives have pushed Atlanta to fourth place with four drama pilots, which is twice as many as last year. Georgia would beat other major filming locations including Texas, Chicago, and New Orleans. If Atlanta continues on this path of filmmaking domination, expect Georgia to be number one in 2016 TV pilot production.
Here is the list of all of the drama pilots with their locations:
LOS ANGELES 1. Lucifer (Fox/WBTV) 2. Rush Hour (CBS/WBTV) 3. Studio City (Fox/WBTV) 4. Supergirl (CBS/WBTV) 5. Code Black (CBS/ABCS-CBSTV) 6. The Adversaries (ABC/ABCS) 7. LA Crime (ABC/ABCS)
VANCOUVER 1. The Advocate (ABC/WBTV); plus a day in L.A. 2. Dead People (The CW/WBTV) 3. Mix (ABC/WBTV) 4. Jenna Bans (ABC/ABCS) 5. Unveiled (NBC/Uni TV) 6. Heart Matters (NBC/Uni TV) 7. Tales Of The Darkside (CW/CBSTV) 8. Strange Calls (half-hour, NBC/20th TV)
NEW YORK 1. Blindspot (NBC/WBTV) 2. Doubt (CBS/CBSTV) 3. Limitless (CBS/CBSTV) 4. LFE (CBS/CBSTV) 5. For Justice (CBS/CBSTV) 6. Sneaky Pete (CBS/Sony TV) 7. Shades Of Blue (straight-to-series, NBC/Universal TV) 8. Sharing (half-hour, NBC/Uni TV)
OTHER Endgame (Albuquerque/Las Vegas, NBC/Sony TV) Untitled Todd Hartlan (Miami, CBS/CBSTV) Boom (Northern Utah, ABC/ABCS) Broad Squad (Boston, ABC/ABCS) The Curse Of The Fuentes Women (Puerto Rico, NBC/WBTV) Of Kings and Prophets (Cape Town, South Africa, ABC/ABCS)

Everyone wants a piece of the ‘Game of Thrones’. HBO has recently announced the filming locations for Season 6 of the ‘Game of Thrones’ and you may or may not be surprised.
The country that doubled for Dorne in season 5 will be the filming location for season 6 of the ‘Game of Thrones’ – SPAIN.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO will film portions of season 6 in the country. Spain has been an important filming location in season five, with the country serving as the setting for Dorne, a land newly introduced this year.
Filming will take place in the cities of Girona and Peniscola. For season 5, the show shot in Osuna and Seville, with the latter city reporting a huge increase in tourism as a result of the show. Thousands of background extras applied last year when a casting call went out in Spain.

‘Prison Break’ is returning to Fox in the form of a new limited series.
Why create new TV shows when you can simply reboot classics? According to reports, ‘Prison Break’, the TV show about a prison break, is making a return as a limited series that would reunite stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.
‘Prison Break’ revolves around two brothers: one has been sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, and the other devises an elaborate plan to help his brother escape prison and clear his name.
The series was originally turned down by Fox in 2003, which was concerned about the long-term prospects of such a series. Following the popularity of serialized prime time television series Lost and 24, Fox decided to back production in 2004. The first season received generally positive reviews, and performed well in the ratings. The first season was originally planned for a 13-episode run, but was extended to include an extra nine episodes due to its popularity. Prison Break was nominated for several industry awards, and won the 2006 People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama and was nominated for the 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series Drama.
The news comes hours after it was announced that Fox plans on rebooting the ’24’ series and days after Fox announced there will be another season of ‘X-Files’. All of which begs the question: Since it looks as though Fox will rather reboot an old TV show than create a new one, what’s next? My bet is a ‘House’ spinoff is in the works.
What show do you think Fox is going to reboot next? Do you think Fox should reboot ‘Prison Break’? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

From the director of The Adjustment Bureau comes BIRTH OF THE DRAGON. Produced by Groundswell Productions, the producers of The Illusionist, Milk and Sideways, and Kylin Films. Written by the Oscar nominated writers of Nixon and Ali and casting by Joanna Colbert and PoPing AuYoung.
In San Francisco in the 1960s, a legendary fight took place between Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man. It occurred in an abandoned warehouse before twelve witnesses, no two of whom could agree on what actually happened. But it changed the history of martial arts. This story is inspired by that fight.
‘Birth of The Dragon’ will be directed by George Nolfi. In 2004, he adapted his spec screenplay Honor Among Thieves (previously considered as a John Woo vehicle) into the sequel to Ocean’s Eleven called Ocean’s Twelve.[2] He has also written screenplays for Timeline and The Sentinel. He co-wrote The Bourne Ultimatum with Tony Gilroy, and Scott Z. Burns. Nolfi is set to direct a projected horror film entitled, XOXO, which is being produced by Darren Aronofsky and written by Black Swan writer Mark Heyman.
Bruce Lee is known for his roles in five feature-length films: Lo Wei’s The Big Boss (1971) and Fist of Fury (1972); Golden Harvest’s Way of the Dragon (1972), directed and written by Lee; Golden Harvest and Warner Brothers’ Enter the Dragon (1973) and The Game of Death (1978), both directed by Robert Clouse.
Bruce Lee became an iconic figure known throughout the world, particularly among the Chinese, as he portrayed Chinese nationalism in his films.
He trained in the art of Wing Chun and later combined his other influences from various sources, in the spirit of his personal martial arts philosophy, which he dubbed Jeet Kune Do (The Way of the Intercepting Fist).
He died in Kowloon Tong on July 20, 1973 at the very young age of 32.
“Birth of the Dragon” is inspired by the true story of Bruce Lee’s legendary duel with China’s most famous kung fu master, Wong Jack Man, in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Told from the perspective of one of Lee’s disciples, the film then follows Lee as he takes on a vicious band of Chinatown gangsters. Utilizing real-life events and characters, the film blends fiction with reality to create an original story that breaks the mold of the traditional biopic.
Casting directors are looking for a young Bruce Lee between the ages of 20 to 30 years old. An experienced martial artist highly desired but not required.

‘The Girlfriend Experience’ is now casting extras to appear in the new TV series for the Starz network.
According to Variety, “The Girlfriend Experience” will center around the world of high-end escorts who provide not only sex but also companionship experiences for their clients. The half-hour series will revolve around a woman working as a “GFE,” as these services as known, as she encounters different clients and experiences.
Steven Soderbergh will executive produce ‘The Girlfriend Experience’. He is best known for directing critically acclaimed commercial Hollywood films like the crime comedy Out of Sight (1998), the biographical film Erin Brockovich (2000), the crime drama film Traffic (2000), the remake of the comedy heist film Ocean’s Eleven (2001), and the medical thriller Contagion (2011).
Fleishman was intrigued by the world after meeting a woman who worked as a GFE to finance her education as she pursued her doctorage. The series aims to probe the larger question of the nature of relationships and how far removed the world of GFEs (some of whom command as much as $2,000 an hour) are from more traditional romantic relationships.
“This is show is about looking at the nature of transactions and relationships and how we define the boundaries in our relationships,” Fleishman told Variety.
When Fleishman pitched Soderbergh the idea, “I saw the potential for expansion of the world immediately,” Soderbergh told Variety. “We didn’t want to just remake the film. We were intrigued with the idea of going to a new location with a new character on a new trajectory.”
He emphasized that the show aims to counter the myth that all women who work as escorts, even when sex is part are the deal, are coerced into it or have suffered emotional damage.
“We’re hoping to up-end the traditional assumptions about these kind of relationships and the women who work as GFEs,” Soderbergh said. In researching the possibility of doing the TV series, “we realized how varied (the women’s) experiences really were,” Fleishman added. “There’s no stereotypical experience here.” Nor is it a job that is exclusively done by women, which is something the show may wind up tackling, Fleishman noted.

Fox is looking for Jack Bauer’s replacement for the ’24’ spinoff.
Fox has announced the development of a new 24 limited-run series, but this time there Jack Bauer will be gone. That’s right, no more Kiefer Sutherland. Sutherland will step aside and hand over his gun, badge, and rights to kill to a new, younger male leader with a new, older female love interest.
We caught wind of a new 24 series a couple of weeks ago, but there were few details to go on. But, ’24’ executive producer Howard Gordon spilled the news at the Critics’ Choice Awards earlier this week. The new lead is being described as another “antihero” similar to Jack Bauer, who may make appearances in the spinoff.
Producers and casting directors are most likely holding casting calls as we speak for this upcoming ’24’ spinoff. However, the new series will start as a limited-run series similar to ’24: Live Another Day,’ but, if the ratings pick up, it will be picked up as a regular series.

Cost of living: Are background extras getting a better deal working and living in Atlanta versus Los Angeles?
Most people argue that extras in Georgia get paid less than extras in California because, the cost of living in Atlanta is cheaper than the cost of living in Los Angeles. But, is that even true?
The 2-Bedroom Apartment Study
A recent study compared the average renter’s wage in each U.S. state to the wage that would be needed to afford an average 2-bedroom apartment. The results of the study found that a large majority of people cannot afford the rent in many states.
The National Low Income Housing Coalition released it’s Out of Reach study in May. The study found that the states with the largest gap between, the average wage needed for a 2-bedroom and the typical pay earned by renters, included Hawaii, Maryland and Vermont.
In Hawaii, for example, the study found that you would need to make about $31.61/hour to afford a two bedroom apartment, while the average person in Hawaii only earned less than $15.00 an hour.
‘The data in Out of Reach is sobering,’ Oregon Governor Kate Brown wrote. ‘There simply isn’t enough reasonably priced, decently maintained housing to meet the demand, and rapidly rising rents outpace wages. As a result, one out of four households spends more than half their income on housing costs.’
This problem is not really a state’s issue but more of a national crisis. As City Lab points out, the average American currently needs to earn $19.35 to afford a two-bedroom apartment, while the average pay earned by American renters is $15.16 while the federal minimum wage is just $7.25 – let alone the pay for a typical background extra.
But, what about the cost of living in Los Angeles in comparison to Atlanta?
Konstantin Sutyagin / Shutterstock.com
The study argues that a typical person in California needs to make $26.65/hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment while, the same person would need to earn $15.71/hour in Georgia. If we assume the cost of living in both states is related to the wage necessary to live in a two-bedroom apartment, then we get the following result – the cost of living difference between California and Georgia is $10.94. Therefore, Hollywood producers should pay their extras about $11 more per hour in California.
As we pointed out in our article a few months ago, a typical union background extra in Los Angeles earns approximately $18.50/hour. While, the average background extra in Atlanta earns typically, $8/hour – that is a difference of $10.50. Therefore, someone could argue that an Atlanta extra does better than a Los Angeles extra because the cost of living is so much cheaper despite getting paid $10 less.
In addition, according to numbeo, “You would need around 4,754.97$ in Los Angeles, CA to maintain the same standard of life that you can have with 3,900.00$ in Atlanta, GA (assuming you rent in both cities).”
Essentially, Hollywood pays Los Angeles union extras more money to account for the higher cost of living. However, the study still illustrates the bigger issue about the pay for background extras, it’s not enough.
When a career option does not give you enough money to afford a traditional, well-maintained and safe two-bedroom apartment, two things have to happen, either you get another job, or the job has to start paying you more.
What do you think? Should is it better to live in Los Angeles or Atlanta? Do you think background extras should get paid more? Discuss this story with fellow Project Casting fans on Facebook. On Twitter, follow us at @projectcasting.
Get ready for a new ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ book but, this time from Christian Grey’s point of view.
This morning, E.L. James the author of the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ series announced ver her instagram that she’ll be publishing ‘Grey’, a sequel to the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ but retelling from the perspective self-made billionaire entrepreneur Christian Grey.
“Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night?” the back cover asks breathlessly. “Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?” To answer these questions, you could read either Grey or 50 Shades of Grey.
E.L. James earns between $50 to $100 million per year from book sales, writes at her blog: “As anyone who’s ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story.” The book will be published on June 18th, which is “Christian’s birthday.”

The CEO of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, Andy Puzder, is opening up about the brand’s famous commercials and the stories behind their famous models.
Puzder says the brand behind Hardee’s and Carl Jr. does an amazing job using models before they become famous. Puzder argues that their key to the success of fast food commercials is the ability to pick hot up and coming models and stars to be featured in the ads. But, it is important to point out that the CEO revealed what models did behind the scenes of the classic commercials.
Puzder tells the San Francisco Chronicle that it all started in 2005. At their advertising agency, J0rdin Mendelsohn came up with the idea to use Paris Hilton in a Hardee’s commercial. Saying it would make it very edgy. Since then, Hardee’s and Carl Jr. have used countless up and coming models and reality stars.
‘We have a history of picking these young women before they hit their peak,’ said Puzder of the brand’s casting eye.
‘We put Kate Upton in an ad a month before she got the cover for Sports Illustrated. At the time we picked her, we just said, “This is a beautiful woman.”‘
It is not all about young up and coming models either as even Heidi Klum appeared in one spot, despite the fact that, according to Puzder, the model ‘is no spring chicken.’
Almost all the ads feature the women eating the latest burgers being offered by the chain, with recent commercials starring Sports Illustrated stars Hannah Ferguson and Sara Sampaio.
Even some famous foodies have gotten in on the fun too, like Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi.
‘Padma actually put in one of her cookbooks how when she was modeling as a teenager, her parents moved to Los Angeles,’ said Puzder.
‘They couldn’t eat meat, right? But she would sneak out to a Carl’s Jr. and get a Western Bacon Cheeseburger, and then lick the barbecue sauce off her fingers when she got home, so her parents couldn’t tell.’ [via]
He also said that Kim Kardashian actually ate a salad in her Hardee’s commercial because she refused to eat a hamburger. ‘Kim really couldn’t eat the burgers. Luckily, we had a salad we were promoting, so we used Kim in the salad ad,’ said Puzder.
‘But if we had not been promoting a salad, we probably never would’ve done an ad with Kim, because she wasn’t good at eating the burger. She’s too tiny. She’s really little.’
Today, the CEO of Hardee’s will release a new ad with Sports Illustrated model Samantha Hoopes.

Is there a curse for the models on ‘America’s Next Top Model’ or is the modeling industry plagued with tragic stories?
Models on ‘America’s Next Top Model’ have suffered several tragedies including drug addiction, eating disorders and murder.
Earlier this year, former contestant Mirjana Puhar was killed in a triple homicide. The aspiring model was shot dead after she opened the door to two robbers who also killed two men inside the house.
During Season 8 of ‘America’s Next Top Mode’ contest Renee Alway was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2014 for going on a robbery spree. Renee Alway aka Reneee DeWitt on the show, was arrested in California in 2013 after a six hour standoff with the police and SWAT team following a robbery spree. Neighbors told officers the residents were out of the country and Alway was found hiding in the garage with a gun. Alway was only 20 when she was on the show. But, she reached the final three contestants before taking part in Tyra Banks’ show ‘Modelville’ and appearing in ads and magazine. But, months afterwards, she explained that her modeling career did not take off. After the 2013 incident, she was sentenced to 12 years in prison for four felony burglary counts and one count each of vehicle theft and being a felon in possession of a firearm. She was also ordered to pay nearly $60,000 in damages.
But, that’s not all ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Season 14, Angelea Preston was kicked off after it was revealed she had ben working as an escort. Producers revealed that she had been working as a paid escort prior to filming. Now, she’s suing Tyra Banks for $3 million claiming she was improperly denied a top prize.
Season 8 of ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Jael Strauss was homeless after struggling with drug addition for several years. The aspiring model had a serious addiction to cocaine and painkillers and was forced to strip to make money. Close to losing her battle with addiction, Dr. Phil staged an intervention to help save her life.
Strauss is not alone. Cycle 5 of America’s Next Top Model’ Lisa D’Amato entered Dr. Drew’s rehab reality for alcohol, marijuana, amphetamines, cocaine and mushroom addictions.
In a real earthquake there is a slight pause, confusion and then a few seconds of panic. But, do you know what happens when you film an earthquake disaster movie such as ‘San Andreas’ you have panic, panic, comedy, and even more panic.
Gizmodo collected some of the B-roll video of clips of ‘San Andreas’ and compared how the movie looked before the special effects were added and how the footage after it was completed – it’s hilarious. Before, people just fall to the ground and then a few seconds later taken away by wires and it’s pretty silly. I can’t imagine working as a background extra on this movie. It would be pretty good time.
