Secret Spider-Man Auditions Are Being Held in Atlanta

0

Secretive auditions were held yesterday for the role of Spider-Man in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland and several other actors worked on screen tests in Atlanta for the role of Spider-Man in the upcoming ‘Captain America: Civil War‘ movie.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

According to sources, six teenage boys tested for the highly sought-after role in Captain America: Civil War and the follow-up films, one of the biggest “gets” for a young actor in the film business.

Tom Holland, who appeared as one of Naomi Watts‘ sons in the acclaimed tsunami drama The Impossible, andAsa Butterfield, the child star from Hugo and Ender’s Game, were the best known of the contenders. The other four hopefuls included: Judah Lewis (a relative newbie who will be seen in Jean Marc-Vallee‘s fall dramaDemolition), Matthew Lintz (who will be seen with Adam Sandler in this summer’s Pixels), Charlie Plummer(who had a recurring gig on Boardwalk Empire) and Charlie Rowe (a British actor who appeared on Fox’s short-lived Red Band Society).

Reports suggest that the actors were flown to Atlanta in secret. Then the actors reported to the set of Civil War, Marvel’s latest feature film where each actor performed in front of Marvel’s head studio executives and producers.

Reports suggest that casting directors were looking for kids as young as 14 to audition for the role of Spider-Man.

A-List Actresses Reveal Producers Pressure Them Into Sex During Auditions

0

Actors are calling for a crackdown on producers who use the casting calls to demand sex and strip shows from actors desperate for roles.

According to reports, actors are being pressured into having sex with casting agents and producers to get lead roles. The president of Equity, which reprents British actors, said the problem is getting “completely out of order”. Recently, high-profile actors including Helen Mirren and Gwyneth Paltrow revealed their horrific audition experiences.

Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren said that then-director Michael Winner treated her ‘like a piece of meat’. She said she was made to turn around so he could ogle her body during a casting session in 1964. ‘I was mortified and incredibly angry,’ she said in 2007. ‘I thought it was insulting and sexist, and I don’t think any actress should be treated like that – like a piece of meat – at all. ‘Even if they hadn’t done the kind of work that I’ve done, it was incredibly insulting.’

In 2010 Gwyneth Paltrow said early in her career a film executive suggested that a business meeting should finish ‘in the bedroom’. And Charlize Theron said that when she was 18, a Hollywood director wearing barely anything made a pass at her. ‘I thought it was a little odd that the audition was on a Saturday night at his house in Los Angeles, but I thought maybe that was normal.’

According to reports, aspiring actors are being harassed by sketchy producers. Equity, the UK’s actor’s union, will create audition guidelines to stop probing questions.

Cosmetic Surgeon Blames Kanye West’s Cousin for Kanye’s Mother’s Death

0

Cosmetic surgeon blames Kanye West’s cousin for Kanye’s mother’s death and now wants his name cleared.

Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Jan Adams operated on Kanye West’s mom Donda West in November 2007. She died the next day from heart disease combined with complications after the liposuction surgery.

Dr. Adams has never been charged in connection with her death but, says his repuation has suffered because people don’t know the facts. In fact, he blames Kanye’s cousin, a registered nurse, who was supposed to be overseeing Donda’s aftercare.

He commented that “most people think she died on the table, they don’t even know this lady was home for a day,” said Adams. “The truth hasn’t been revealed”. In addition, Dr. Adams argued that “if he had any balls he would speak out”.

‘The Big Bang Theory’ Starts $4 Million Scholarship for Low-Income Students

0

Earlier this week, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ made history when showrunner Chuck Lorre revealed that he plans on creating a Scholarship foundation. The Big Bang Theory Scholarship Endowment is currently valued at $4 million dollars.

The scholarship endowment will go directly to 20 low-income students entering the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields at UCLA this year and then benefit five new students each academic year. The inaugural class will be announced this fall at the show’s set in Burbank, California with cast and crew in attendance.

“We have all been given a gift with The Big Bang Theory, a show that’s not only based in the scientific community, but also enthusiastically supported by that same community – this is our opportunity to give back,” Lorre said in a statement. “In that spirit, our Big Bang family has made a meaningful contribution, and together, we’ll share in the support of these future scholars, scientists and leaders.”

Contributors to the scholarship include stars Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, and Melissa Rauch. They’re joined by executive producers Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Steven Molaro.

Bruce Jenner to Pose As a Woman for Vanity Fair

Bruce Jenner will pose for the cover of Vanity Fair as a woman this summer.

After last month’s highly publicized interview with Diane Sawyer, the 65-year-old Jenner will appear on the cover of Vanity Fair as a woman sometime this summer.

No date has been set yet for when the particular issue of Vanity Fair will hit stands. But, my bet is we’ll see it sometime in July to promote Jenner’s new eight-part docuseries that will premiere on E! that same month.

Georgia is Now Ranked 3rd in U.S. Film Production

0

Louisiana is no longer the filmmaking capital of the world.

In a new study from the nonprofit FilmL.A., California, New York and Georgia beat Louisiana in the number of movies filmed in their respective states in 2014. But, it begs the question – how did Louisiana go from the number one filming location in the world to number 7? Blame it on Georgia.

Louisiana’s plunge from number one in total project count (18 films in 2013, 5 films in 2014) to sixth place cedes ground to southern rival Georgia (9 films in 2013, 10 films in 2014). Louisiana state officials are contemplating capping their film incentive, but the $200 million cap under consideration is unlikely to hamper the state’s attraction of big-budget films.

Georgia is now ranked third for the most movies filmed in the United States. In addition, Georgia was only two movies away from beating California as the filmmaking capital of the world.

The study focused on 2014 movies produced by the eleven big movie studios (Disney, Warner Bros., Universal, Paramount, Sony, 20th Century Fox, Dreamworks, Lionsgate, The Weinstein Co., Summit Entertainment and Relativity). This led to a study of 106 movies, including seven animated and live action feature films.

Screech Nearly Escapes Prison Time, Convicted of Two Misdemeanors

0

A jury cleared the former ‘Saved By The Bell‘ actor, Dustin Diamond of the most serious felony charge.

TV actor and former child star, Dustin Diamond, was convicted Friday of two misdemeanors after engaging in a barroom fight.

From THR:

The jury’s verdict came just hours after the 38-year-old actor testified that he never intended to stab anyone in the fight last Christmas Day. He had pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of recklessly endangering public safety, plus two misdemeanors — carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct.

Dustin Diamond who played the character Screech on ‘Saved By The Bell’ said some people wanted to shake his hand and pose for photos at the bar, but that others were mkaing fun of him and his girlfriend. He said he was trying to scare bar patrons after his girlfriend was punched in the face.

“I felt like we were being set up for antagonistic purposes,” he said.

But, in a weird twist, Screech’s defense attorney asked the actor if he enjoyed being called “Screech” and his answer is pretty surprising.

After maintaining a serious facade during most of the trial, Diamond grinned Friday when a defense attorney asked if he liked being compared to the character Screech. Diamond said he, like his character, enjoyed nerdy things. And Diamond said he liked being identified in public as the goofy television character.

“That means they love you,” Diamond said. “That means you’re doing your job.”

Disney Cancels ‘Tron 3’

0

Disney pulls the plug on the ‘Tron‘ sequel, ‘Tron 3’.

Disney has decided to end the development of ‘Tron 3,’ what was expected to be the sequel to the 1980s classic movie, because the studio could not find a time to start production until after 2018, according to reports.

From Variety:

“We had never greenlit the movie, but it was in development for some time,” said one Disney executive, discussing the sensitive decision to table the project. “Things in the queue got ahead of it and we have such a big slate out in front of it, we started to think, ‘Where does it go?’ And it’s a pretty big investment to make if you are not even sure when you are going to release it.”

When Disney looked out at its release horizon, though, it did not see a likely spot for the new “Tron” film.  Walt Disney Pictures already has “Jungle Book,” another “Pirates of the Caribbean”  installment, “Alice in Wonderland, “Pete’s Dragon” and “Beauty and the Beast.” And that’s not to mention other highly-anticipated projects, like director Tim Burton’s “Dumbo,” and a raft of mega-pics that are on the way from Disney’s premium-label subsidiaries — Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel.

Back in January 15, 2014, the Tron leading actor, Bruce Boxleitner stated in an interview: “All I know is, they don’t tell me anything, but they want to do it I would say probably the end of this year, for 2015 maybe,” Boxleitner said. “They don’t have any dates but I’m thinking from the scuttlebutt I’m hearing that’s it, but I don’t know anything for sure other than they do have a script they love, they’re still tweaking.”

The film may also take place more in the real world than in the past according to the recent interview: “That’s what I’m told, but you didn’t hear me say that,” Boxleitner joked. “I think it’s going to be a lot about taking the company back because if you remember Sam Flynn says to Alan at the end, just before he rides his bike off into the sunrise with Quorra, says, ‘We’re going to take the company back.’ That’s not the end of the movie. That’s the beginning of the next one. That’s foreshadowing. And you don’t get Cillian Murphy to do an unscripted cameo” and “I got a feeling Eddie Dillinger Jr.’s going to be as bad as his dad was.”

Disney promoted Tron: Legacy. It received mixed reviews from film critics, who generally loved the effects and soundtrack but hated its character development and acting. The ‘Tron’ grossed over $400 million during its worldwide, making it a financial success. It was the 11th highest grossing film of the year.

‘Tron’ follows Flynn’s son Sam who responds to a message from his long-lost father and is transported into a virtual reality called the Grid, where Sam, his father and the algorithm Quorra  stop the malevolent program CLU from invading the human world.

Should Actors Get Tattoos?

0

Should Actors Get Tattoos? That is a question hundreds of actors and aspiring actors ask. But does a tattoo affect an actor’s career?

Tattoos have been around for thousands of years. This type of body modification became extremely popular in Europe in the 1700s. Since then, “ink,” “pieces,” “skin art,” “tattoo art,” “tats,” or “work” have become a part of American culture with nearly every singer, rapper, or musician sporting a tattoo.

But, what about actors? Should actors get tattoos? Let us investigate:

Mike Tyson Tattoo Controversy

Mike Tyson’s tattoo artist sued Warner Bros. to stop the release of ‘Hangover 2′. According to reports, S. Victor Whitmill, the tattoo artist who calls the Tyson tattoo “one of the most distinctive tattoos in the nation,” asked for an injunction to stop the release of the highly anticipated Bradley Cooper and the gang sequel.

The man who gave Mike Tyson the distinctive facial tattoo sued Warner Bros. over the similar-looking facial art on Ed Helms’ character in the ‘The Hangover: Part II’ movie.

“When Mr. Whitmill created the Original Tattoo, Mr. Tyson agreed that Mr. Whitmill would own the artwork and thus, the copyright in the Original Tattoo,” argues the complaint, filed Thursday in federal court in Missouri and obtained by THR. “Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. — without attempting to contact Mr. Whitmill, obtain his permission, or credit his creation — has copied Mr. Whitmill’s Original Tattoo and placed it on the face of another actor … This unauthorized exploitation of the Original Tattoo constitutes copyright infringement.”

It was a fascinating lawsuit. Whitmill argued that the tattoo is copyrighted work and that Warner Bros. needs to pay him for using his design. Whitmill sued Warner Bros., saying he did not permit the company to copy the plan for the actor Ed Helms’ character “Stu” in the movie. He claimed the filmmakers copied the design that he tattooed on Tyson in 2003 in Las Vegas.

Ultimately, Warner Bros. announced that they “amicably resolved” its dispute with the tattoo artist; This illustrates how a tattoo can cause a movie studio millions of dollars. Even though the symbol was used as part of a joke, it demonstrates the legal ramifications and drawbacks for actors that choose to get a tattoo.

Should actors get tattoos?

Many actors often complain that their most significant issue is getting typecast. “I want to be dramatic,” actors say, “and Hollywood only wants me to be a gangster!” “I want to be gangster,” yell actresses, “yet studio executives can only see me for my body!” Indeed, it is a sad thing that an actor cannot showcase their talents since casting directors only choose them for a particular type of role but, adding tattoos does not make it any better.

Should actors cover up tattoos?

Here’s the problem with actors getting tattoos: It is tough to apply makeup that obscures an actor’s tattoos with today’s age of HD, IMAX, and the future of 4K televisions. You can try to use a bucket of Dermablend, but symbols still shine through.

I was once in a popular TV series, and only people without tattoos were asked to audition. When people started getting fitted for their costumes, it was discovered that one girl had a tattoo she had been hiding. She was fired and replaced the next day with ease.

How about removing tattoos?

Many of us would not think of 50 Cent as a serious actor, at least when he first started releasing rap records in the late ’90s. However, 50 cent’s dream career has changed. Unfortunately, he felt that his tattoo-covered arms held him back from his acting career. The solution? Get them removed. He told People Magazine, “It cuts down on the amount of time I have to spend in makeup covering them up.” The procedure seems to have paid off. 50 Cent had roles in 8 movies from 2011 through 2013 and has five more planned for 2015 and 2016.

What do casting directors think about background actors with tattoos?

We recently asked Jamie Lynn Catrett, the extras casting director behind the ‘Divergent‘ series and ‘The Hunger Games’ about background artists that have tattoos and here is what she had to say:

I’ve hired a lot of background artists with tattoos lately for one of my projects, so I have gained a lot of experience, specifically over the past year, with symbols. I want to say that I’m not against tattoos; I think background artists should get tattoos if that’s what they want, but I want people to be aware that tattoos now require an extra step – a tattoo release form. Because of a previous lawsuit between a production company and a tattoo artist, most production companies now need a form signed by the tattoo artist that ensures they will not sue the production company for using their art.

I had a girl just recently lose a featured role because her artist wouldn’t sign a tattoo release form. I’m going to be blunt – he VEHEMENTLY REFUSED to sign the form. The production company loved the girl for this role (it was a tough chick role!), but they were scared the artist could sue them in the future, and so the ADs asked me to replace her because her tattoos were too much of a liability. The artist even said he wouldn’t pursue legal action, but that he just didn’t want to sign away rights to his work, and they still wanted me to replace her. It was sad watching an artist indirectly control this girls’ career, but the production company wanted proof that they wouldn’t be in an expensive legal battle, so I had no choice but to replace her.

As I said, I’ve spent a lot of time getting forms signed over the past year, and most artists – 95% of them – are incredibly cooperative with signing the paperwork. Some of them, however, will not sign any documents for any reason, even when they know it could stop their client from getting work. If background artists (or actors!) want to be able to work on-screen without fear of being in the middle of a lawsuit, my advice is that they seek out artists that are willing to sign tattoo release forms, and in some cases, sign forms for years to come. (Sometimes the tattoo artist will have to sign multiple releases if every show wants their release).

If you already have a tattoo & your artist won’t sign a release – don’t panic! If you have a small symbol, it might be easy to cover or alter with makeup. There are some great products out there now that cover tattoos well. Some of the more prominent symbols can take hours to cover, though, and as we all know, time = money. In the case of the girl losing the featured role above, the production company weighed the cost of having to pay an artist to cover her tattoos for hours, and they decided just to recast because it would have cost hundreds of dollars due to the size of her tattoos.

Overall – Should actors get tattoos? Probably not.

You’re better off avoiding them. I have seen casting calls for something like a tattooed hipster but, at the end of the day it can typecast you for only a particular role, force you to get all of your tattoos cleared by your tattoo artist or the studio can face an expensive lawsuit similar to Mike Tyson’s situation which could hinder your acting career.

There Are Over 200 Rapes in the ‘Game of Thrones’

0

There are a ton of rapes, sexual violence and gang rapes in the ‘Game of Thrones’ books.

Game of Thrones‘ is probably one of the most violent shows on television next to The Walking Dead. But, unlike The Walking Dead, producers tend to depict sexual violence a lot more often on TV. Every other episode features death, destruction and rape. It was all overlooked on the show until a controversial scene involving Jaime and Cersei Lannister brought light to the topic of sexual violence on television.

Since then, there’s been a lot of discussion on the sexual violence against women on the show. So much sexual violence that critics are saying that it is a cheap way plot line on the TV series. Others argue that the show is just following in the footsteps from the books, which are as full of rape as the medieval societies in which the books are based on.

One Tumblr user named Tafkar put together some numbers to see how much sexual violence went down in the books compared to the show. The numbers may be a little shocking:

Rape acts in Game of Thrones the TV series (to date): 50
Rape victims in Game of Thrones (to date): 29

Rape acts in ASOIAF the book series (to date): 214
Rape victims in ASOIAF (to date): 117

According to her count, the books contain at least four times as much rape as the show and probably more. She later describes how difficult it is to estimate the number of gang rape victims in the books.

Rapes/Attempted Rapes that Appear In Both Works: 34

The author of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin had this to say regarding the accusation that his book focuses too much on sexual violence:

My novels are epic fantasy, but they are inspired by and grounded in history. Rape and sexual violence have been a part of every war ever fought, from the ancient Sumerians to our present day. To omit them from a narrative centered on war and power would have been fundamentally false and dishonest, and would have undermined one of the themes of the books: that the true horrors of human history derive not from orcs and Dark Lords, but from ourselves. We are the monsters. (And the heroes too). Each of us has within himself the capacity for great good, and great evil.

I’m sure the debate will rage on through the rest of the season as things will probably get a lot worse.

Evidence Suggests ‘The Bachelor’ Isn’t Fake But, Doesn’t Work

Evidence suggests that ‘The Bachelor’ is not fake but, just doesn’t work.

In what is becoming a new fashion trend, another golden couple has broken up. According to reports, Season 19 Bachelor and his fiancée of 11 weeks, have officially split. Here is what People magazine says are the reasons why they broke up:

During his season, even Soules’ father said that Whitney was a “sure thing” but that Tilley was the one his son really wanted. However, Tilley found herself unable to commit to the L-word or to the promise that she’d move to Soules’ hometown of Arlington, Iowa, should he propose.

Though Soules made it clear that he loved Bischoff’s “driven” nature, he did admit that, “to a certain extent,” he’d want a wife who had a career both at home and away. “Someone who has been there, done that and now wants to spend the next chapter as a mother. Whether it’s a stay-at-home mother or not, It doesn’t have to be.”

He will join The Bachelorette’s Atlanta assistant D.A. and Bachelorette star Andi Dorfman as she broke up with her love of her life.

Maybe people aren’t there for the right reasons?
