The Clapper starring Ed Helms and Tracy Morgan is now casting extras in Los Angeles, California

Are you looking for your next open casting call? If so, we have some good news. Jeff Olan Casting is now holding an open casting call for the upcoming movie The Clapper starring Ed Helms and Tracy Morgan. Filming will take place in Los Angeles, California and casting directors are looking for a ton of background extras to work on the movie.

The open casting call will take place on Saturday, May 14th from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM at 14044 Ventura Blvd, Suite 209, Sherman Oaks, 91423.

About The Clapper:

Written and directed by Dito Montiel, the film centers on “a man who works on infomercials and is selected to appear on a late night talk show.” Helms will play the lead, and Morgan will play his best friend. The movie features Ed Helms and Tracy Morgan.

Johnny Depp pranks Disneyland visitors as the Mad Hatter.

Johnny Depp is one of the best actors in Hollywood. He has a history of transforming himself into a new and different character time and time again. One of his biggest roles was the Mad Hatter from Disney’s Alice in Wonderland. He’s reprising the role in the sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Disney decided to do something special to promote the movie.

Disney dressed up Johnny Depp in the Mad Hatter costume and live-streamed him on billboards throughout the resort. The thing is, it was right alongside other static billboards, with it looking like a real movie poster. However, it wasn’t a static poster at all, it was actually him. Those boards also had cameras installed in them and Depp could see the park-goers as they walked by and enjoyed the magical world of Disneyland. Johnny Depp did some hilarious things such as repeating their names, calling out to them as they passed. They even had bubbles pop out of the top when he sneezed.

4 Signs You Were Born to Become an Actor

Where you born to become an actor? This study shows the four personality traits of actors.

Have you ever met a group of actors and thought that they seem to act a like? Are certain people born to become actors? Well, one researcher asked that question and we may finally know the type of personalities actors have.

Daniel Nettle at the University of Newcastle’s Brain and Behavior department analyzed 191 professional actors and compared them to general population groups. He looked at both sexes and examined the differences between actors and normal men and women. According his study, he found actors have four psychological profiles and personality types. For example, actors are more likely to be extraverts, open to trying new things and agreeable. However, actors are more likely to exhibit traits of neuroticism – Neuroticism is defined as psychology behavior characterized by anxiety, fear, moodiness, worry, envy, frustration, jealousy, and loneliness.

The personality profiles and cognitive styles of 191 professional actors were compared to general population samples. Actors of both sexes were significantly higher than comparison groups in extraversion, openness to experience, and agreeableness. There was a trend towards higher neuroticism. The actors also scored significantly more highly than comparison groups on Baron-Cohen’s empathizing quotient.

Nettle argues that people become actors because they enjoy the rewards of acting. In addition, the acting lifestyle draws a particular group of people.

That’s pretty damn insane. You have to love science.

The Federal Government is Now Investigating Gender Discrimination in Hollywood

The Feds are now investigating gender discrimination and Hollywood.

The U.S. EEOC and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs are now investigating unfair gender-based hiring practices in Hollywood. The ACLU submitted a request for an investigation last summer, according to reports, to discover “whether gender discrimination is responsible for the dearth of female directors in the entertainment industry.”

Studies have shown time and time again that woman filmmakers are not given equal opportunities as their male counterparts in Hollywood.

The U.S. EEOC and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs will meet with various directors and Hollywood executives, according to ACLU attorney Melissa Goodman.

She hopes the effort will lead to charges against producers and others who fail to hire women directors.

Goodman noted, however, that federal investigators are not bound by any timeline and are not obligated to reveal any results or take any action on their findings.

“We’re very encouraged by how seriously the government has taken this,” says Goodman. “Our hope is that they’ll push industry leaders to address the ongoing violations of civil rights women directors in the industry have experienced and are experiencing.”

We will have to wait and see if this actually changes the gender landscape in Hollywood, especially when it is nearly impossible for female filmmakers to land directing jobs in the male-dominated industry.

Amazon has unveiled their plans to create their own version of YouTube by creating their own user-generated video website called Amazon Video Direct. This service allows for filmmakers, content creators and vloggers to upload their own videos to Amazon’s Prime Video and generate royalties in the process based on the hours streamed.

What is Amazon Video Direct?

Creators have several ways to make money off of their videos, including making them available to rent or own, or they can make them free and ad-supported. The videos can be packaged together and offered as an add-on subscription to Amazon Prime Video (Add-on subscriptions will be available through the Streaming Partners Program and it is designed for larger-scale providers.)

According to reports, the new program is designed for content creators and helps to reach the “Tens of millions” of Prime members. Many of these customers are currently using Amazon Prime, the same way they use Netflix to watch Amazon’s free TV shows and movies.

In addition, Amazon says creators will be able to control where their videos can be streamed. That means you can stream your videos all over the world including U.S., Germany, Austria, United Kingdom and Japan. Also, the videos can be played back anywhere Amazon Video works, which includes mobile phones, desktops, game consoles and Fire TV.

How much are content creators on Amazon Video Direct?

According to Variety, Amazon will pay partners 50 percent of the retail price for digital purchases, rentals and subscription fees. If creators distribute on Prime Video, they will also earn royalties of 15 cents per hour streamed in the U.S. and 6 cents in other countries. (This is capped at $75,000 per year).

Along with Amazon Video Direct, Amazon is also launching Amazon Video Direct Stars. A promotion designed to kickstart this new video platform. The AVD Stars program will give “creators a share of $1 million per month based on customer engagement with their title.”

Amazon points out that they will pay a monthly bonus to creators from the $1 million monthly fund, based on the Top 100 AVD titles in Prime Video. This is on top of any other revenue earned. All filmmakers and content creators will automatically be enrolled.

When does Amazon Video Direct start?

The program launched this week and the $1 million monthly fund will make its first bonus distributions based on streaming activity next month.

Amazon will distribute a share of $1,000,000 per month as a bonus to the Top 100 titles included with Prime through Amazon Video Direct. This bonus—based on global customer engagement—is incremental to revenue earned from hours streamed, rentals, purchases, monthly subscriptions, and ad impressions. Why is Amazon doing this?

Amazon is trying to reach a larger audience and possibly a younger audience as millennials are choosing to go to YouTube than watch regular TV and movies. The launch also follows Amazon’s recent debut of standalone subscriptions, which target non-Prime members at a cost of $8.99 a month.

According to Deadline, the new series Thirteen Reasons Why is the new Selena Gomez TV series for Netflix. The series was created and written by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Brian Yorkey. The show follows a boy named Clay after he receives a shoe box of cassette tapes from his late classmate and crush Hannah, after she recently committed suicide. On the tapes, which are mailed with instructions to pass along from one student to another, Hannah explains to 12 peers how they each played a role in her death, by giving 13 reasons explaining why she took her life.

Selena Gomez is co-producing alongside her mother Mandy. She opened up to Variety about the experience, saying: “She’s got incredible taste in a weird, cool way. Four or five years ago, she found this book and fell in love with it. I think I was still in high school. Now we’re here. We took our time with it.”

#EmptyCupAwards is showing the world how bad acting ruins TV shows via Instagram.

If you go on Instagram and search #EmptyCupAwards you will find dozens of videos showing actors holding empty cups of coffee and pretending that they are full. And apparently no show is safe. The CW’s Jane the Virgin showcases the leading cast holding empty cups of coffee. In addition, the Blacklist features unrealistic acting with an empty coffee cup.

While people are spending thousands of dollars on acting classes, it seems the most noticeable way that an actor is not that talented is by carrying an empty cup. From Slate:

There are moments when the “realism” of television breaks down: when framed photographs are poorly photoshopped, when video chats are unrealistically high-quality, and when driving scenes are staged using some very obvious rear projection. But for me the biggest threat to realism on television is something you may never have considered: the way that coffee cups that are supposedly full of coffee are plainly empty.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is starting his very own YouTube channel.

Hollywood is changing and social media is having more and more of an impact in an actor’s life. In fact, many modeling and talent agencies are pressuring their talent to produce content on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube in order to land bigger acting jobs. And now, Dwayne Johnson is looking to expand his platform by creating his very own YouTube channel.

It looks as though that The Rock and his Seven Bucks digital production studio are getting into the YouTube. Said Johnson via press release:

Toxic Chemicals Discovered on Film Sets. Are Crew Members in Danger?

A new report finds hazardous lead dust on TV and movie sets, which might be secretly harming film crews.

Everyone loves a huge action scene. Basically, throw a few huge explosions, a thousand gunshots, and an epic fire and you have the opening scene to a blockbuster superhero movie. While it looks amazing on screen, it takes a lot of time planning and equipment to make those scenes come to life. In the process, film crew members are putting their lives on the line in the process. In fact, many stunt actors are forced to drive through walls, get hit by cars, and fall down stairs over and over again for a living. But, what if I told you there’s a potentially hazardous toxic dust that could secretly harm film crew members?

According to a Los Angeles Times report, an entertainment industry safety group is warning that many of these action scenes scenes produce particles of lead, creating a potentially dangerous toxic dust upon explosion. From LATimes:

“These bits, combined with the settled fume, can contaminate clothing, hair, furnishings, and even cameras and equipment,” according to a new report by Arts, Crafts & Theater Safety Inc., a nonprofit group that has consulted for clients such as the Smithsonian Institution and the Yale School of Drama. “This dust can expose the cast, crew, spectators and people occupying the space to lead.”

“It simply doesn’t make sense to use lead products in situations where cast, crew and even the public may be exposed,” wrote Rossol, who is a chemist and industrial hygienist.

Apparently, during every explosion seen on set particles of lead dust are thrown into the air, which can cause a number of different symptoms such as:

  • High blood pressure
  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Joint pains
  • Muscle pain
  • Declines in mental functioning
  • Pain, numbness or tingling of the extremities
  • Headache
  • Memory loss
  • Mood disorders
  • Reduced sperm count, abnormal sperm
  • Miscarriage or premature birth in pregnant women

In addition, a single explosive lead styphnate could expose people on sets to above the allowed limit for the substance set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the government agency that regulates the exposure to toxic chemicals in the workplace.

In one scenario outlined by Rossol, the detonation of a single lead squib in a 100-square-foot room could expose people in it to more than 20 times OSHA’s “permissible exposure limit” for the chemical.

While there are alternatives to using lead explosives on film sets, it is up to the movie or TV show’s producers, prop masters and other crew members to make sure they are used. As the LATimes pointed out, “in an industry that is cloaked in machismo, it’s not clear whether Rossol’s report will strike a chord”
