Where you born to become an actor? This study shows the four personality traits of actors.
Have you ever met a group of actors and thought that they seem to act a like? Are certain people born to become actors? Well, one researcher asked that question and we may finally know the type of personalities actors have.
Daniel Nettle at the University of Newcastle's Brain and Behavior department analyzed 191 professional actors and compared them to general population groups. He looked at both sexes and examined the differences between actors and normal men and women. According his study, he found actors have four psychological profiles and personality types. For example, actors are more likely to be extraverts, open to trying new things and agreeable. However, actors are more likely to exhibit traits of neuroticism – Neuroticism is defined as psychology behavior characterized by anxiety, fear, moodiness, worry, envy, frustration, jealousy, and loneliness.
The personality profiles and cognitive styles of 191 professional actors were compared to general population samples. Actors of both sexes were significantly higher than comparison groups in extraversion, openness to experience, and agreeableness. There was a trend towards higher neuroticism. The actors also scored significantly more highly than comparison groups on Baron-Cohen's empathizing quotient.
Nettle argues that people become actors because they enjoy the rewards of acting. In addition, the acting lifestyle draws a particular group of people.
