For all the die-hard fans of SNL (Saturday Night Live), the film brought back nostalgic memories of the show’s first episode in an exciting way, placing it on the Oscars’ radar.

Film Unveiling at the Festival

As Matt Neglia (@NextBestPicture) tweeted, “Saturday Night” managed to ‘blow the roof off’ the festival. Capturing the chaotic energy, camaraderie, and backstage antics of SNL’s first live episode, Jason Reitman’s direction was spot on. The vibrant script, perfect editing, and continuous laughter ensured it was a hit show!

The moment was further amplified as Bill Murray, an ex-SNL cast member, introduced the film with Reitman. Murray reminisced about his SNL days and stated that someone making this movie was necessary. According to Murray, the pace and adrenaline of working on a live TV show are unparalleled experiences that have taught him to live every day to the fullest.

The Remarkable Ensemble Cast

Reiterating Murray’s sentiments, Scott Mantz (@MovieMantz) referred to the cast of “Saturday Night” as the ‘future of the industry.’ The film’s ensemble cast exudes an adrenaline-fueled, hilarious, and buzzing vibe as they take us through a fast-paced journey up to the momentous unveiling of the first SNL episode. Applauded by viewers, the cast’s performance has indeed been remarkable.

Why “The Crow” Flopped At the Box Office

Key Takeaways:
– The 2024 edition of “The Crow” has diverged significantly from the original plot, and is not well received by fans.
– The essence of characters and the emotional gravity of the plot has been severely diluted.
– The supernatural angle added to the character of Vincent Roeg didn’t quite fit into the narrative.
– The film ends ambiguously, leaving fans confused and upset.
– Fans and critics alike deem the movie as a failed blend of genres.

As lovers of the cult-classic movie, “The Crow”, we all understand the nerves that come with seeing a new version of our beloved film. If you’re with me on this, then you probably came across the 2024 remake of “The Crow”, and chances are that you weren’t thrilled about it. Let’s delve into why this new rendition couldn’t captivate our hearts like the original masterpiece.

To begin with, let’s note that every movie remake is a tricky venture. The filmmakers are tasked with striking a delicate balance between nostalgia and innovation. However, in this remake, the makers decided to try a new approach and adapt the James O’Barr graphic novel, thus straying from the original movie plot. To some, this may be a well-appreciated change, but it left others questioning if the movie needed to bear the title of “The Crow.”

The Original Sin – A Lackluster Death

In the 1994 version of “The Crow”, the tragic deaths of Eric and Shelly were brutal enough to stir the crow into bringing Eric back to life. The horror behind their prolonged demise invoked a sense of rage and sadness in viewers. This compelling emotional twist was lost in the 2024 film, as Eric and Shelly’s sudden and underwhelming deaths failed to draw any such emotion, leaving the crucial role of the crow itself rather redundant.

Missing The Mark – Character Representation

Now let’s talk about characters. In this remake, neither Eric nor Shelly carries the charisma of their 1994 counterparts. Shelly’s portrayal by FKA Twigs was charming, but it couldn’t mask the dreadfully ordinary illustration of their romance. Furthermore, Skarsgård’s Eric, who rattles through his mission, lacks the cool, commanding persona of the original Eric Draven, played remarkably by the late Brandon Lee.

Strange Supernatural Elements

In an attempt to retain the fantastical facet of “The Crow”, the remake introduced a character named Vincent Roeg, with the power to convince people to commit suicide. Although this innovation was creative, the narrative didn’t provide a proper setup or explanation for this oddity, leaving fans puzzled.

An Incomplete Tale

Adding to the fans’ disappointment, the movie hangs in limbo without truly landing Eric’s story. This incomplete tale upset the audience, even causing actor Bill Skarsgård to confess preferring a more definitive ending.

Fumbled Mix of Genres

The creators of the 2024 “The Crow” seem to have got lost in the meandering plot which fails to adhere to any specific genre. Is it a revenge story, a love story, or a supernatural action flick? Unlike the original, driven by love and revenge, the newer version portrayed Eric as a nondescript character grappling to exact revenge, making his cause less compelling to the audience.

In conclusion, many fans echo that “The Crow” is a tragic revenge tale rather than a fluffy love story with supernatural elements. While the team behind the 2024 remake deserves credit for attempting a difficult project, we, as fans, can’t deny that the new film left us longing for the original. Let us know your views on this remake in the comments below!

The Iconic Career of James Earl Jones: A Tribute

Key Takeaways:
– James Earl Jones is celebrated for his unique baritone voice, notably as Darth Vader and Mufasa.
– Beyond voice acting, Jones is also a renowned character actor with a career spanning over 60 years.
– His most notable roles include characters in ‘The Great White Hope’, ‘The Sandlot’, and ‘Coming to America.’
– Despite retiring at 93, Jones’s monumental impact on the film industry remains undeniable.

Who has the most unforgettable voice in Hollywood history? It’s none other than James Earl Jones, famed for his rich, baritone voice that has captivated audiences for generations.

Known for Roles in Star Wars and The Lion King

One of his most famous roles? The menacing Sith Lord, Darth Vader, in the beloved ‘Star Wars’ franchise. His voice’s deep and resonant tone became the defining sound of the villain. But there’s a softer side to Jones’s vocal portfolio too. Who can forget his portrayal of the noble Mufasa in ‘The Lion King’? When it came to remaking the classic, no one else could voice the wise lion king. And let’s not forget his iconic catchphrase, “This is CNN”. If Jones only did voiceovers, his status as an icon would still be undisputed.

Shining as a Character Actor

But there’s more to Jones than just his extraordinary voice. He’s also an incredible character actor, making his film debut in the dark comedy ‘Dr. Strangelove.’ His phenomenal talent was recognized when he received an Academy Award nomination for his leading role in ‘The Great White Hope.’

For those who grew up in the eighties and nineties, his roles in films like ‘The Sandlot’ presented him as a comforting grandfatherly figure. Yet, he proved his versatility with his tough portrayal in ‘Sneakers’ and his recurring role as James Greer, Jack Ryan’s boss in films like ‘The Hunt for Red October.’ But let’s not forget his comedy chops; he’s Eddie Murphy’s regal father in ‘Coming to America’ and its sequel.

Enjoying a Well-Earned Retirement

At 93, Jones has more or less waved goodbye to Hollywood with ‘Coming 2 America’ set as his swan song. Nonetheless, his legacy lives on, solidifying his standing as an icon among icons.

Deadpool & Wolverine Steals Weekend Spotlight, The Crow Falters in Box Office

Key Takeaways:

– Deadpool & Wolverine dominates the summer chart with a record $604 million.
– Other R-rated film, Alien: Romulus, sees a hopeful future with a solid $90 million revenue.
– It Ends with Us, an adaptation from a Colleen Hoover novel, collected $7.42 million, pushing its domestic total to $135 million.

The summer of 2024 blockbuster performances had an exciting twist, ending with a spectacular display from movies like Deadpool & Wolverine, Inside Out 2, and Twisters. Let’s delve into the box office numbers:

Record Domination by Deadpool & Wolverine

R-rated film, Deadpool & Wolverine, took the weekend crown by a storm. It grossed a whopping $15.1 million during the holiday weekend, escalating its overall domestic total to an impressive $604 million. These figures are unprecedented for an R-rated movie; the closest rival in this category, The Passion of Christ, grossed $370 million. But don’t fret; Deadpool & Wolverine is poised to close the gap in the coming weeks. It’s been a summer sensation, especially amongst the JoBlo audience.

A Solid Performance by Other R-Rated Movie

Closer on the heels, another R-rated film, Alien: Romulus, has also boosted its weekend collection by $9.3 million. Not bad, considering it registered only a 43% drop compared to last week. Its overall domestic total of $90 million is expected to cross the $100 million mark soon. Impressively, Alien: Romulus has had a massive international impact, with it ready to cross the $300 million the following weekend. A sequel to this movie seems like a no-brainer given its successful run.

Novel Based Movie Hits the Right Chords

Blake Lively’s vehicle, It Ends With Us, has certainly turned a lot of heads. The movie, based on a Colleen Hoover novel, has continued to impress, adding another $7.42 million over the weekend. This brings its overall total to a remarkable $135 million, making it a major word-of-mouth hit this summer.

The Reagan Biopic and Twisters Update

Reagan, a biopic about the famed U.S. president, too, enjoyed good returns, grossing $7.4 million over the weekend. This, despite its lukewarm reviews! Meanwhile, Twisters, featuring Glen Powell, continued its successful summer run; it added another $7.1 million to its growing domestic total of $258 million.

Storerun by Despicable Me 4 and Other Movies

Despicable Me 4 from the Illumination production house also fared well, with a $4 million addition this weekend. The animated film is now expected to end its run as the third highest-grossing film in the franchise. Contrastingly, the highly criticized AfrAId did not fare well, grossing only a lowly $3.7 million. This is a rare box office failure for Blitzhouse.

The Liongate’s Disaster

Lionsgate’s much-debated reboot, The Crow, fell flat on its face with a 60% drop this weekend. It managed a modest $1.8 million, barely keeping it outside the top 10. With a domestic total so far of $8.6 million, it will probably hit the $10 million mark by the end of its run. The Crow and Lionsgate’s other release, Borderlands, are set to be this year’s biggest box office disaster.

What’s coming next?

Our eyes are now set on the long-anticipated release of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice next weekend. Expected to earn $100 million on its opening, it’s an exciting factor to look forward to.

Always keep an eye on the movie world; it’s a roller coaster like no other!

Josh & Lily’s Translation Troubles – An Update from ’90 Day Fiancé’

Key Takeaways:

– ’90 Day Fiancé’ stars Josh and Lily are experiencing significant troubles due to language barriers.
– The couple lives in China, where Josh cannot work due to visa restrictions, leading to financial strains.
– Lily’s family disapproves of Josh as he can’t be the main provider for the couple.
– Josh believes Lily understands him only 75% of the time, leading to several misunderstandings.

Issues in the ’90 Day Fiancé’ Love Nest

Fan favorites from season 6 of ’90 Day Fiancé’, Josh and Lily are dealing with more than just cultural differences. Josh has moved to China to be with Lily, however, a language barrier and financial difficulties are further straining their relationship.

Josh believes that Lily, a native Mandarin speaker, understands him only about 75% of the time. This issue seems to have culminated in a heated exchange in the latest episode, where Josh’s concern about a flashing light was misunderstood.

Communication Hiccups Can Complicate Matters

The light often flashes when Lily is driving, and Josh was worried it was a sign of cameras stalking the couple. Despite trying to express his concern, Lily didn’t grasp the gravity of his unease. He stated, “I think Lily understands me maybe 75% of the time”, emphasizing that misunderstandings seem to be at the root of most of their disagreements.

To show her the issue, Josh asked Lily to drive through their parking garage again. But this only added to Lily’s frustration, and to add to the confusion, it turned out that the flashing lights were coming from their own garage taking photos.

Cultural and Financial Issues Add to the Strain

However, misunderstandings due to the language barrier are not the only problem haunting this ’90 Day Fiancé’ couple. Josh is also troubled by the disapproval from Lily’s family. The cultural expectation that he should be the main provider for the family weighs heavily on him, especially since he is legally unable to work in China due to visa restrictions.

In fact, his employment issue was a topic of discussion when Lily’s sister sat with the couple earlier in August. Josh expressed how he understood the family’s concerns but highlighted that he was not jobless by choice.

Unemployment Worries Family

Despite the reasons being legal, Josh felt judged for not being able to contribute financially. He pointed out all the household work he could do, but the unease remained. During a private confessional, Lily’s sister confessed to being worried about her sister, fearing Josh’s unemployment could put extra pressure on Lily.

Can This Love Conquer All Obstacles?

With the cultural and language barriers, financial strains, and family disapproval, Josh and Lily’s relationship appears to be on shaky ground. However, their love story has captivated ’90 Day Fiancé’ fans, who are hopeful that this couple will navigate their differences and come out stronger on the other side.

Remember to keep checking back for more updates on this, and other reality TV storylines on ’90 Day Fiancé’.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Antics Nearly Derailed ‘Natural Born Killers,’ Says Director Oliver Stone

Key Takeaways:

– Robert Downey Jr. almost ruined ‘Natural Born Killers’ with his on-set behavior, according to director Oliver Stone.
– Downey Jr.’s infamous antics included a prank involving fake blood which upset Stone.
– Despite these issues, the movie turned out to be one of the most important films in Downey Jr.’s career.
– The film, ‘Natural Born Killers’, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Robert Downey Jr. is known for stealing the show in every scene he appears, and his surprise appearance at SDCC this summer is a testament to this. Yet, there was a time when the Iron Man star’s antics almost led to disaster on the set of a movie. This happened during the filming of the 1994 film ‘Natural Born Killers’, directed by Oliver Stone.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Performance in ‘Natural Born Killers’

Downey Jr. took on the role of Wayne Gale in ‘Natural Born Killers’, a character known for capitalizing on criminals to the point of creating a cult-like status. His performance was definitely a standout, even in the midst of other stellar acts like Rodney Dangerfield’s. However, according to Stone, Downey Jr.’s behavior almost ruined the film.

Stone has revealed that Downey Jr. was rarely sober while filming ‘Natural Born Killers’. There was even one instance where Downey Jr. caused major upset on set by dipping his shirt tail in fake blood and pulling it through his unzipped pants. Stone’s reaction was quite severe – he accused Downey Jr. of going too far and potentially ruining the movie.

Despite the Film’s Turmoil, a Cult Classic was Born

Yet, ‘Natural Born Killers’ is known for its heightened, over-the-top style. Even Woody Harrelson, who played Mickey alongside Juliette Lewis’ Mallory, considers it a romantic comedy. Despite the initial controversy, Stone instructed Downey Jr. to tweak his prank rather than abandon it, reaching a compromise of sorts.

At the time of filming, Downey Jr. was at an interesting point in his career. He had just received an Oscar nomination for his performance in ‘Chaplin’, but was struggling with personal issues. He admitted in an Esquire interview that the only time he was completely awake on set was between hearing “action” and “cut”.

Celebrating ‘Natural Born Killers’ 30th Anniversary

2024 marks the 30th anniversary of ‘Natural Born Killers’, and there’s no better way to commemorate it than to revisit this cult classic. Whether you’re a fan of the movie or a lover of film history, this film offers a fascinating exploration of Downey Jr.’s career.

Co-star Harrelson humorously recalled his own memories of the filming process, claiming that he was the most sober person on set which was unique for him. He joked that he felt like “Mother Teresa” on this particular project, a stark contrast to his otherwise rock-n-roll lifestyle.

So, 30 years on, let’s raise a glass to ‘Natural Born Killers’, a film that despite its rocky production history, remains a key piece of 90s cinema. It also serves as a reminder of Robert Downey Jr.’s incredible talent, even when his off-camera antics threatened to steal the show for all the wrong reasons.

And remember, whether you’re a fan of ‘Natural Born Killers’, or just discovering it for the first time, one thing’s for sure; this movie, just like Downey Jr., is entirely unforgettable.

All You Need to Know About ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’

Hey, dino fans! Exciting news from Universal Pictures is on the horizon. As you might know, the next entry in the riveting Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchise has been announced, with the title “Jurassic World Rebirth”. Let’s dive straight into what we know so far.

Key Takeaways:
– The “Rebirth” is set for a 2025 theatrical release, with the screenplay already done.
– The original Jurassic Park scriptwriter, David Koepp, has returned to tell this story.
– Renowned director, Gareth Edwards, is at the helm of this project.
– A stellar cast, not featuring any previous characters, has been confirmed for the movie.
– The movie started filming in June in different exotic locations.

The Story

Here’s the thing; the plot seems more astounding this time. The new story, written by the original Jurassic Park genius David Koepp, starts five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. Dinosaurs are struggling to survive in the planet’s harsh ecology, clinging to isolated tropical environments reminiscent of their original habitats. The plot revolves around three massive creatures, key to a miraculous life-saving drug. An adventure-seeking team is set to secure DNA samples from these colossal creatures. Sounds fun, right?

The Studio Factor

Now, onto the technicalities. To maintain authenticity about dinosaur behavior, Universal has roped in paleontologist Steve Brusatte, who was also part of the previous movie. Although it’s unclear whether the veteran paleontologist Jack Horner is on board this time, we can be assured of stellar dino action.

Meet the Director

When it came to choosing the movie’s director, Universal turned to a name familiar with blockbusters and giant creatures – Gareth Edwards. Known for films like Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Edwards was brought in after Fast & Furious’ David Leitch stepped away due to creative differences.

The Starry Cast

Sorry guys, but your favorite actors like Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Chris Pratt, or Bryce Dallas Howard are not returning in Rebirth. The good news is that an amazing new cast is ready to take the franchise forward. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo are among the talented actors who accepted the offer to join the Jurassic World saga.

Characters in Spotlight

Ready to meet the new characters? Johansson is all set to play a covert operations expert, Zora Bennett, while Ali will be seen as Duncan Kincaid, Zora’s trusted team leader. The rest of the cast, including Bailey, Friend, Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Philippine Velge, and Ed Skrein, will play their unique roles in this extraordinary story.

Production Details

Filming began in June in Thailand’s beautiful locales, and later moved to studios in Malta and the U.K. By plunging a whopping $18 million into the local economy, the production became a huge boon to Thailand. The movie will be produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, with Steven Spielberg, Denis L. Stewart, and Jim Spencer serving as executive producers.

From what we know, the movie is set to steer the Jurassic franchise into a fresh direction, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store. Stay tuned for more updates on your favorite dino adventure. Until then, adios amigos!

Remember Jeff Goldblum’s advice to Johansson: “Don’t get eaten, unless you want to. I love you.” Get your popcorn ready for another wild ride in “Jurassic World Rebirth”.
