Executive Editorial Producer – Integrated Content Strategy (ABC News)

ABC News is hiring an Executive Editorial Producer to lead and execute productions across all shows and platforms, of relevant, compelling content, reporting on the experiences and interests of culturally diverse audiences. This role calls for someone who has a passion for storytelling, drive to produce creative content and a desire to be at the forefront of inclusive content and audience development. As a leader on the ABC News Integrated Content Strategy team, the Executive Editorial Producer will help shape the way in which we cover news. This person will collaborate with the Executive Director of Development in executing on the strategies as set by the Senior Vice President, Integrated Content.

The Executive Editorial Producer will report to the Senior Vice President, Integrated Content Strategy.

Responsibilities :

  • Launch and oversee the development and production(pitch to air) of daily reporting, network specials and longform projects, aimed at building diverse audiences across all ABC News shows and platforms
  • Manage and oversee coordination of the Race and Culture reporting teams providing editorial oversight and guidance, including but not limited to story and script approvals, and screening pieces
  • Work directly with news executives and executive producers driving the strategy, planning, and execution of cross-division productions, maximizing IP material central to non-fiction innovative multicultural storytelling, leveraging the power and reach of ABC News shows and platforms
  • Partner with the Executive Director, Development in creating pitches for the ABC network, Hulu, and third party distribution partners
  • Run weekly Race & Culture editorial meeting
  • Track progress of multiple projects in various stages of development and production, providing updates to SVP Integrated Content Strategy and Executive Director, Development
  • Partner with human resources to oversee and manage department staffing needs
  • Develop editorial initiatives to showcase new, diverse voices, including talent showcases, reporting workshops, booking database.
  • Partner with the audience development team in using content analysis tools to examine show and platform performances toward increasing representation of diverse voices and reporting.
  • Coordinate special project launches and marketing with division wide partners

Basic Qualifications :

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in an editorial role with two (2) of those years in a leadership capacity executing on development strategies, editorial decisions and developing unique story opportunities
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience producing longform content
  • Minimum two(2) years’ experience working at a broadcast, cable, or large market news network/station OR equivalent live 24/7 production environment working under tight deadlines
  • Minimum two (2) years’ demonstrated experience collaborating and presenting feedback and recommendations to internal and externals stakeholders
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience managing a team of 5 or more providing direct editorial oversight and guidance
  • Communication skills (written and verbal) – ability to effectively communicate and interact with people at various levels and in various disciplines of business and production

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Eleven or more (11) years of experience in an editorial role with three (3) of those years in a leadership capacity executing on development strategies, editorial decisions and developing unique story opportunities across multiple platforms
  • Prior experience creating and presenting pitch decks
  • Demonstrated experience producing for multiple reporting platforms, including with a focus on culturally diverse storytelling

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Videographer/Editor position requires skills in a high-volume production environment specializing in the final storytelling of a project. This position is primarily responsible for assisting in the filming and editing process for company video projects.  This position requires a diverse knowledge of industry standard types of cameras and production equipment along with basic Avid editing skills.  They will work closely with the Producers, Videographers and Editors on staff to ensure projects are completed on time and with the highest technical and aesthetic standards. They are responsible for maintaining the company’s production assets and working with the department production calendar so that equipment is ready for each project.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support production staff with variety of projects using production gear including various models of cameras, lenses, tripods, and other gear related to shooting.
  • Work with Production team to build sets for production needs.
  • Assist with general duties.
  • Maintaining production equipment before and after projects.
  • Coordinate the tracking of all production assets.
  • Assist with research and ordering of equipment.
  • Support with reporting and tracking maintenance and repairs of production equipment.
  • Ingest media into company’s archiving system and prepare media for Editors.
  • Log footage and edit basic to intermediate level projects.
  • Operate additional cameras as needed for production needs including live events.
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

 

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Minimum college or trade school experience in production or similar field..
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of practical field experience working in multiple aspects of film and video production.
  • Color grading at intermediate level.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Thorough understanding of fishing, hunting, and other outdoor skills as required to best work with production team in outdoor recreation company.
  • Strong work ethic. Outgoing personality with ability to interact within group of creative individuals in a dynamic and constantly changing environment. Willingness to react with short notice to changes in daily routine.
  • Willing to travel as required – often locations require extensive driving and multiple night stays with early and late hours.
  • Strong communication skills – able to understand direction and make themselves understood when communicating objectives for accomplishing story lines or goals of a production.
  • Thorough knowledge of Avid non-linear editing systems, specifically the Avid Media Composer or similar.
  • Strong working knowledge of various codecs, containers and file types used in today’s media environment.
  • Able to work within a team environment including in the field or studio and in the post process, editing and finishing.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy equipment in variety of terrain and conditions from very hot to very cold.
  • Good driving record, able to secure Missouri Operator’s License Class E.
  • Good organizational skills: able to keep multiple projects balanced at any one time
  • Strong video resume required.  This resume should demonstrate samples from all of the areas mentioned above.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 25-30%
