The Studio at Situation Group crafts award-winning work for the world’s leading entertainment, education and mission-driven brands. The Studio seeks an Art Director to oversee and provide high-level designs for Arts & Entertainment clients, with a primary focus on a global entertainment brand. This role will report to the Design Supervisor, Arts & Entertainment and will work with our production team of designers and freelancers to ensure that project goals and needs of the brief are met on time and on budget. The selected candidate will demonstrate advanced design and oversight skills as well as extreme precision in their day-to-day work.

What You’ll Do

The Art Director is responsible for creating and overseeing the visual design and style of a variety of projects for our Arts & Entertainment clients. This person will work with our Studio team on print materials, out of home advertising, digital media creative, logos, social media assets and more. The Art Director will lead and work with a team of designers and freelancers to conceptualize, develop, and produce visual materials that effectively communicate the overall look and feel of a project in addition to meeting the needs of the client.

Our office is located in midtown Manhattan and we are currently working in-office three days per week.

Sample Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm creative concepts with ACDs, copywriters, designers and/or freelance designers
  • Work as a high-level hands-on designer closely guiding creative ideation through every step of production
  • Attend forecast meetings to determine schedules and resources based on daily needs
  • Ensure creative goals are clear, and that every project has sufficient time allocated and timeline schedules align with designer needs
  • Oversee freelance design support on final design execution, ensuring consistency in design approach across multiple designers and multiple client projects
  • Keep production running smoothly by ensuring you are meeting deadlines and addressing roadblocks as they happen
  • Stay current with design trends, techniques and processes
  • Coordinate with hired illustrators, photographers, animators, etc. as needed
  • Present creative to the internal team, clients and partners

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience at a creative agency or similar environment
  • A portfolio showcasing polished, well-thought design in lead and hands-on roles
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign)
  • Expert print production proficiency and experience (projects including but not limited to out-of-home, direct mail, traditional publication placements)
  • Experience setting up print-ready files and mechanicals
  • Eagle-eye for details like spotting alignment issues and inconsistencies
  • Strong sense of typography
  • Dynamic and confident presentation skills to pitch ideas clearly and effectively
  • Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced creative environment
  • A deep understanding of how technical factors affect designing for both the digital space and traditional (print) space
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve efficiently, intelligently, and with positivity
  • Experience with retouching and digital compositing
